I thought that was ironic, black metal is like the epitome of cold sounding music. However I do understand not wanting to weed through the amount of crap that exists out there just to find the cool stuff. I spent a lot of time doing that in the past luckily
The AFI song Bo was thinking of with the vid is "Third Season" from "Shut you Mouth and Open your Eyes," pre Sails. A great album that really set up future AFI.
Some of my picks: Agalloch - The Mantle Ulver - Perdition City Current 93 - Soft Black Stars Kali Malone - Sacrificial Code Tenhi - Saivo Urfaust- IX:Einsiedler Ved Buens Ende - Written in Waters Soror Dolorosa - Blind Scenes Kayo Dot - Hubardo
If y’all want some electric violin on doom metal check out SubRosa. They had twin electric violins instead of lead guitar and were one of the most crushing bands around.
Disintegration is my personal autumn pick, perfect front to back (don't know if it's on their list yet) Also Enjoy The Silence 'harmonium' is the version Colin is alluding to
EYEHATEGOD 'take as needed for pain' the song 'Blank'. But for me, the song that sounds like an eery autumn day is Metallica, a song called 'For whom the bell tolls'
I just knew Bo was gonna drop Beastmilk. Love that album so much, and Bo is probably the only person I have ever heard actually talk about them. Still have it on vinyl and got the itch to listen to it a couple of weeks ago as I always do this time of year. The stuff as Grave Pleasures is still solid, but the Beastmilk album is perfection.
Interesting topic. I gotta believe I have some bias in when I listen to music, but I don't really consciously think about the season when choosing what music to listen to. That being said, I can tell when music feels like it would fit a certain season, especially the cold weather seasons. I'm definitely the opposite of Bo, where I probably do listen to black metal the most during the cold months. Here are some of my favorites that fit the cold weather months (no order). 1. Converge & Chelsea Wolfe - Bloodmoon I (gothic sludge metal) 2. Autonoesis - Moon of Foul Magics (blackened thrash/progressive metal/death metal) 3. Harakiri for the Sky - Mære (post-black metal) 4. Ethereal Shroud - Trisagion (atmospheric black metal/funeral doom) 5. Marrasmieli - Martaiden mailta (atmospheric pagan black metal) 6. Nechochwen - Kanawha Black (blackened folk metal/progressive rock/death metal)
Some of my picks; Modern Baseball - Sports Title Fight - Floral Green XchorusX - Firm Standing Law Deluxxe - If You Were Me Pain of Truth - No Blame…Just Facts
Crazy how many of these albums/artists are things I thought to put on my own list before finishing the episode! Top tier taste in this one. Personally, though, I would pick 40 Watt Sun's first album over Warning. For some reason it just hits harder despite being more overtly melodic. Here's a list of 15 more albums, and honorable mention goes to Blackwater Park because it's a certified fall classic but felt just a little too on the nose. Atramentus - Stygian Cough/The Wounded Kings - An Introduction to the Black Arts Emptiness - Nothing but the Whole Giles Corey - S/T Ihsahn - After In Solitude - Sister Kingdom - Hemeltraan Lucifer - Lucifer I Negative Plane - Stained Glass Revelations Predatory Light - Death and the Twilight Hours Rotting Christ - Triarchy of the Lost Lovers Septicflesh - Communion Tribulation - Children of the Night Ulcerate - Stare Into Death and Be Still Windhand - S/T
Got a very odd personal list of cold weather albums and songs: Demon Hunter - True Defiance (a) Lagwagon - Obsolete Absolute (s) Jinjer - Perennial (s) Propagandhi - Failed States (a) U2 - Bullet the blue sky (s) Strung Out - Exile in Oblivion (a) Magnitude - To whatever fateful end (a) Gotta keep this list relatively short and not go crazy haha.
Bo is into a lot more goth than i had anticipated. And Colin is way heavy into doom which i kinda figured. BUT THE FACT THAT NOT ONE FUCKING TITLE FIGHT ALBUM WAS MENTIONED IS CRIMINAL.
#1 Type O Negative October Rust #2 The Cure Pornography #3 Alcoa Parlor Tricks #4 Token Entry Weight Of The World #5 Samhain November Coming Fire Although any Samhain could fit in there.
For me "Jar" by Superheaven is ultimate fall music. Maybe it's just becouse of my memories that I have with this album but I think it fits percetly with rainy day
No album speaks fall than Mercyful Fate-Melissa, song "Into the Coven. No album speaks winter/cold than Dissection- Storm of the Lights Bane, song "Thorns of Crimson Death".
Great Episode !!!! Some bands I've never heard of before, but I'm going to check them out! Peace one of my favorite Fall/Winter Albums Black Sabbath - Paranoid (1970) Big Black - Atomizer (1986) Crowbar - Sever The Wicked Hand (2011) Fields Of The Nephilim - Elizium (1990) Portishead - Dummy (1994) Mad Season - Above (1995) Caravan - Canterbury Tales (1976) Sepultura - Chaos A.D. (1993) The Stranglers - The Raven (1979) Steve Kuhn - s/t (1971) Because Of Ghosts - Make Amends With Your Adversary Before Dawn (2003)
It’s finally hitting nice autumnal temperatures where I live, so I’ve been getting back into a lot of folk music and also some electronic (would suggest The Ape of Naples by Coil to anyone who wants something weird sad and electronic to listen to). I also associate albums like Blackwater Park by Opeth, The Mantle by Agalloch, anything by Ahab or Mournful Congregation, and Panopticon with the winter so I’m excited to revisit some of that stuff. Also for Colin specifically, the album is called Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls by Coven and it’s like a pre-Black Sabbath version of the exact satanic female fronted psychedelic rock you’re talking about. Would highly recommend if you haven’t heard it
Nice list. Type O and those post punk, gothic albums. 👍. Crowbar’s Odd fellows rest made me realize I’m an odd fellow. Soooooo heavy and AIC relaxing. Idk… Katatonia’s brave murder day album snd Tiamat’s wild honey. Death doom stuff… And maybe The Church’s starfish album. Many say it’s a star gazing summer album. What Eva it is it is the sheeroooot. Lol
Call me crazy, but even my merch is seasonal. During the spring/summer, im wearing more hardcore style stuff, because im in the mood to mosh and live life in the sun. During the fall, im wearing any and everything, because fall is the best season, as St. Peter Steele would argue. During the winter, Im all about that death and thrash metal merch. Sleeve patches like armor for days to protect me against the cold and the dark nights.
EDIT: Adding Satyricon - The Age of Nero after hearing Bo talk about Sons Of Northern Darkness. My uncommon fall vibe music is Cold As Life, H8 Inc, and the first three Insane Clown Posse albums. Maybe a hot take. Lol
“Imagine eating BBQ while listening to Crowbar” I’ve never felt more disgusted
😂😂
The johnny cash / Danzig lore is a prime example of the kind of stuff that keeps me coming back to the show
Seriously, here for the humor & lore and less their musical “takes” lol
Bo's explanation isn't 100% accurate to the actual lore but it's close enough lol.
Bo "i dont like black metal" then going "i love music that sounds cold" CMON MAN
😂😂😂😂😂
yeah cuz alongside sounding cold black metal is corny as shit
@yvavi6851 certainly can be but there's some great black metal out there. Listen to akhlys
I thought that was ironic, black metal is like the epitome of cold sounding music. However I do understand not wanting to weed through the amount of crap that exists out there just to find the cool stuff. I spent a lot of time doing that in the past luckily
@@hannahkozlovic1715 honestly thats most music these days
Citizen - Youth
Basement - I Wish I Could Stay Here
Title Fight - The Last Thing You Forget
CORRECT.
You know the cold weather hits when you go full crowbar
The AFI song Bo was thinking of with the vid is "Third Season" from "Shut you Mouth and Open your Eyes," pre Sails. A great album that really set up future AFI.
I learned about punk after their cover of Filth's Today's Lesson on Shut Your Mouth.
Some of my picks:

Current 93 - Soft Black Stars
Kali Malone - Sacrificial Code
Tenhi - Saivo

10 seconds in and really hoping to see "Heavier than Heaven..." on the list.
Colin if you like to suffer and be rewarded for it, one word SWANS
For some reason, I was expecting The Infamous by Mobb Deep to be in here
Perfect cold weather music
Who’s up Milking their Beast?
This is my new favorite way to say that! I was up all night milking my beast😂
If y’all want some electric violin on doom metal check out SubRosa. They had twin electric violins instead of lead guitar and were one of the most crushing bands around.
Disintegration is my personal autumn pick, perfect front to back (don't know if it's on their list yet)
Also Enjoy The Silence 'harmonium' is the version Colin is alluding to
Disintegration is 100 times the choice pornography is for cold weather choice
EYEHATEGOD 'take as needed for pain' the song 'Blank'. But for me, the song that sounds like an eery autumn day is Metallica, a song called 'For whom the bell tolls'
- Depeche Mode - Song of Faith and Devotion
- Nick Cave - No More Shall We Part
- Mark Lanegan - The Winding Sheet
- Elliott - Photorecording
I just knew Bo was gonna drop Beastmilk. Love that album so much, and Bo is probably the only person I have ever heard actually talk about them. Still have it on vinyl and got the itch to listen to it a couple of weeks ago as I always do this time of year.
The stuff as Grave Pleasures is still solid, but the Beastmilk album is perfection.
I love Hardlore. It's currently helping me through some rough times. Thanks, guys, and have a good one everyone.
Bo just saw you in Cleveland with Harms Way!!! Great show I stood right in front for you had a blast
A cold weather music list without Katatonia, Opeth or Darkthrone is crazy work!
Interesting topic. I gotta believe I have some bias in when I listen to music, but I don't really consciously think about the season when choosing what music to listen to. Predatory Light - Death and the Twilight Hours
Rotting Christ - Triarchy of the Lost Lovers
Septicflesh - Communion
Tribulation - Children of the Night
Ulcerate - Stare Into Death and Be Still
Windhand - S/T
My personal favorites for Winter/COLD album is, "Winter-Into Darkness" and , "Swallowed-Lunitarial".
Lunarterial is so good! I feel like I haven't heard anybody mention it almost since it came out. Shame they only had one album.
I don't know why but Ceremony - Still Nothing Moves You feels very cold to me
amorphis - tales from the 1000 lakes has been my cold weather album since when i first got it from the library mid 90s...
You forgot Amorphis - Tales from the Thousand Lakes/Black Winter Day and Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane.
Dissection!! Yes!!
WARNING “footprints” is awesome. Loving that pick. pallbearer and YOB vibes. Seriously great pick
Better have October Rust on that list boys

Jinjer - Perennial (s)
Propagandhi - Failed States (a)
U2 - Bullet the blue sky (s)
Strung Out - Exile in Oblivion (a)

Bo is into a lot more goth than i had anticipated. And Colin is way heavy into doom which i kinda figured. BUT THE FACT THAT NOT ONE FUCKING TITLE FIGHT ALBUM WAS MENTIONED IS CRIMINAL.
I agree! I'm here for all the goth jams but to no Title Fight or Basement is wild lol

#1 Type O Negative October Rust
#2 The Cure Pornography
#3 Alcoa Parlor Tricks
#4 Token Entry Weight Of The World
#5 Samhain November Coming Fire
Although any Samhain could fit in there.
Turn on the Bright Lights - Interpol is the ultimate cold weather album
3:29 "...on my side of town"
nothing screams cold more than Norwegian black metal.
Pallbearer is of the frostiest recommendations I could have hoped for.
Best song on Sabotage is Megalomania and when that riff comes in 🤌🏽 if you know the song you know what riff I’m talking about
Agreed!!

For me "Jar" by Superheaven is ultimate fall music. Maybe it's just becouse of my memories that I have with this album but I think it fits percetly with rainy day

Today was litterally the first day I felt the Chrisp cool fall breeze of the season.

Colin you need to check out Author & Punisher’s setup. It’s all handmade mechanical controllers and they look straight out of a factory
It’s finally hitting nice autumnal temperatures where I live, so I’ve been getting back into a lot of folk music and also some electronic (would suggest The Ape of Naples by Coil to anyone who wants something weird sad and electronic to listen to).

Immortal- at the heart of winter. Come on
I live in Western Canada, so most music feels like winter to me because our lives are eternal winter. Lol
Criminal that there’s not at least one opeth album on this list! Cmon now! Appreciate the love for old AFI albums though and Christian death
Anything black metal
Or neoclassical/dark wave like dead can dance or DVKE. Also the cure agree
Sabotage is also my fav sabbath album overall
Using some of of these for my Halloween party playlist thanks dads
Alice in chains tripod album, granddaddy the software slump album, radiohead amnesiac, from Autumn to ashes to bad you're beautiful
Bos cold weather picks are just my year round vibes I'm learning
Very based Sabbath - Sabotage mention 🫡 IMO, the most cohesive Sabbath record and my favorite.
Immortals whole gimmick is “grim and frostbitten” the point is for it to sound cold
Both of the Randy Rhoads era Ozzy albums go on this list for me 🍁
Got my hot apple cider ready, just need the Apple Music playlist drop 🙏
Lol
But the best ever cold music record ever is Agalloch’s The Mantle
Oh and Crowbar’s song December Spawn is sex if it was music.

Instrumental section of One For The Vine is actual god tier shit
I do not think the Cure ever got into meth fyi. Other drugs and alcohol, sure
EDIT: Adding Satyricon - The Age of Nero after hearing Bo talk about Sons Of Northern Darkness.
My uncommon fall vibe music is Cold As Life, H8 Inc, and the first three Insane Clown Posse albums.
Maybe a hot take. Lol
I’m Harding my lore on the beach today.
"The Killing Joke" 🤣
Suprised Colin didnt choose Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones. That's my nr 1. I get cold just thinking about that record.
Legacy of brutality cuts are better than the static age tracks if we wanna talk Misfits.
41:03
