- It takes Verrisa Graham, a single mother of four, nearly 7 hours to get to and from work every day using Central Florida public transportation.
Yes please improve the Transit in Central Florida. There are a lot of residence who work a lot of 3rd/Grave shift who depend on transit, but can't get to their late night shift due to the bus and Sunrail not running. LYNX and Sunrail should run 24/7 including holidays.
Why don't you have a car.
@@michaelgoodman9068 It's expensive to buy, own, maintain, plus insurance. Plus, driving isn't safe for everyone due to certain medical conditions and some people just aren't very good at it anyway.
@Michael Goodman ••• it is a huge expense for low fixed income individuals, and the disabled.
@@brightwinter9334 Exactly.
@@J.D.Vision True. Even then, I wish they make cities more for people than for cars. Orlando is so car-centric for the most part.
My home "city" is 32,000 and their city bus system is EXTREMELY efficient. It takes you through the town with four routes PLUS busses that go to and around the adjacent towns so the region can all come into and out of the "city". I'm stunned at how chaotic and inefficient Osceola County public transit is.
God bless that mother of 4.
In Ocala, FL our public transportation is ridiculously inefficient. To job search for many people they can get to maybe 2 places a day. I see a city growing but there is no real growth in transportation. I watched many take 4 hours to get to work and 4 hours to get home. It’s very sad.
There was a recent story about a math teacher in Los Angeles having to travel about 2 hours to get to work by bus and another 2 hours back, not having much time to spend with his family. His students knew about his situation and raised enough money to buy him a new car to his surprise, as well as gas and insurance for a year. And this is LA we're talking about, the second biggest city in America.
I visited Orlando many times. I have to say that the public transportation down there stinks. My hotel was on highway 192. I took the Bus 55 to the last stop then from take the second bus going to down Orlando. I left the hotel at 9:00AM and arrived at 12:00PM. It took three hours . The first problem I see in central florida is everything is spread out. If you were to develop a rail system in Orlando you would have to spend billions of dollars and would have to cover a large area, It shows also why people in Central Florida have cars. For the people who depend on public transportation it's a tough ride. They have to get up hours before to take their bus to their job . So I feel for these people.
No you wouldn't. Send a rail up through center that goes from Campbell to Sanford. And along it have a bus that does a rectangular circuit route that dissects the rail. [|] but have the brackets go out horizontally much further. Have 10 of these plus hoppers that will kick you out into Orlando and express lines that will take you across sectors.
And that's why everyone who can afford a car drives. It's what happens when cities don't prioritize walkability and public transit, but rather go out there way to "improve" traffic flow by adding more lanes and more roads. And when buses are infrequent and get stuck in traffic to where it's never going to be faster than driving, there's the culprit.
hopefully they did something to help her out...
It takes me an hour to two hours to get to universal studios on the lynx which I'm only 15ish mins from, so I'm not surprised.
Wouldn't it be easier to walk at that point?
@@bradleymiller437 on I-4? Absolutely not lol. But now they have a much shorter bus.
@@bradleymiller437 Or UBER it.
The only place you can live without a car and use public transport in Florida is maybe if you lived in a condo in Downtown Miami and worked around the City of Miami area but the small city of Miami itself is very unsafe
It's 2024 and Miami now is considered one of the safest cities. Miami also now has Brightline all the way to Orlando plus the TRI-Rail extension into downtown. The latest extension will be Metromover to South Beach starting next year.
i really do hope they work on this.. although im sure it will be a tax expense for citizens, its well worth it.
Well the Citizens of Orange County had a Sales Tax proposal which even the Tourists would have paid yet they turned it down. So Orlando will continue to be a cesspool of Highways and Toll Roads instead.
You definitely have to take power naps during the trip to catch up on some sleep.
Polk county needs to wake up too
Hell yea davenport gotta big and no bussesbit seems like you gotta ride a bike to 192 to catch the bus
Poor lady 😭😭😭😭
I live in San Francisco and the Public Transportation is great but you would think Orlando would have a better bus or light rail system and people from California are moving to Florida also businesses and local governments want people to ride public transportation and the public needs to meet with City Officials!
I've been to SF, and cities like SF, NY, Chicago are way ahead when it comes to transit. Those are the cities I CAN go without a car. In Florida, most likely you'll need a car, especially in the Florida Panhandle.
See everyone thing Orlando or Florida is a place to live and you think it's great but it's not Florida is crap
@@wturner777 Just like in Texas!
From what I've heard, the Orlando area does have the best transit system out there, and guess where it is: Walt Disney World. 🤣
@@MrGaryg20047 Los Angeles is no saint neither. I saw a recent segment about a math teacher in LA having to commute two hours one way by bus just to get to work. His students knew about it and decided to do something about it by raising enough money to get him a car without his knowledge. They raised more than enough money, they bought him a brand new car plus gas and insurance for a year. It's a beautiful thing, but sad at the same time. This shows how car-dependent most of our nation is.
poor mom tey could have given her at least a used car
Put up or shut up. Why not start a GoFundMe page on her behalf?
Wow I didn't know it took that long to ride a bus from home to work this is not good.
She can take 407 to the airport then 51 home
..
😢I hate pain in my feet 😢ouch! That hurts!
It’s so sad that she cannot be actively. They’re seeing her kids grow up. Obviously she is but the fact that public transportation here in central Florida is a literal joke. Bus stops in random areas. If she had a car, she could rest more, spend time more with her kids, but no, this is literally survival mode
But the problem is cars are expensive, now more than ever since the pandemic. But really cities in the US and Canada aren't built for people anymore like they used to. Rather they've been bulldozed for cars.
😭😭❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
Why not just move to Kissimmee?
Don't give her idées we have enough people moving here
It got worse since COVID.. smh
Everyone is short staffed, especially the bus drivers. Buses won't run efficiently without enough staff.
Girl.. Im finna move down there, ( let me help you with the BILLS Boo. I got a 🚗 .Lol
Sounds like her life choices got her here and now everyone else needs to fix that.
Don't judge. This could happen to anyone. What would you do when your car breaks down and you have no money to repair or replace it? Not to mention you have a job to get to.
@@wturner777 I would have the money because I have a job and know how to save. Also have good credit with high credit limits. If your car breaks down and you can’t afford to fix it, it is literally only your fault. People being bad with money shouldn’t be coddled.
@@chippewaguy4193 Again, you're judging. You could be excellent at handling money, but don't even make enough to even cover all the expenses on a car, or even afford a car in the first place. Sure you can go to school in hopes to get a better paying job. But when you have mouths to feed RIGHT NOW, as a parent you put your children first over yourself.
What cities really need to do is to invest heavily in transit oriented development so that there will be better, more efficient alternatives to driving. The reason everyone drives in Orlando is because it's the fastest mode of transportation, and that's why there's always congestion. That has to change to get more people to walk, cycle, or use public transit.
@@wturner777 I can judge anybody at anytime. She can get a job closer to her house. I will never feel bad for someone reaping what they sowed. Have kids at an early age and work for minimum wage is 100% their fault. Also you don’t need to go to school to get a decent job. I went to Valencia community college for about two weeks until I decided it was a waste for me. Never went to school and got a skills job work your way up. There are countless jobs that pay more then minimum wage and you don’t need a degree.
@@chippewaguy4193 Hell, you don't need to graduate high school to become successful millionaires or billionaires, though I highly encourage you stay in school. She probably tried getting a job close by, but they sent her to another location where she had to commute one way or another. Or there's not much jobs closer to her home. We don't know her full story unless we talk to her, so we can't be too quick to judge.
Why 4 children. Where is the father?
Randolf Sorandy she is working and doing what’s needed. I hate that people will say, “stop being on welfare” then again state when they work and try to be responsible,, “why are you having kids?” What are you expecting? You cannot have it both ways!!!
@Randolf Sorandy That's a mother doing whatever it takes to care for her own kids. A type of parent who would put her kids over herself. That's all that matters.
Why does that matter? You don't know if their father is involved by watching a 4 minute video. Y'all love to be negative🙄you don't even know this girl. Stop judging
@@rosegoald Exactly. People nowadays are too quick to judge.
Men do it everyday
Ok? And women without children also have to take the bus to get to work if they dont have a car...she is not more special or deserving because she is a mom.She gets bigger tax deductions, free healthcare and free food . ...while the rest of the childless people have to pay for everything
Where does she say she gets Free Healthcare & food? She is making over $2k a Month.
@@xoxxobob61 she has brats...which will always qualify her for free food.
