For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
It was not a baker that said "that's the way the cookie crumbles" it was a farmer, having a cup of tea with his wife after harvest. You certainly have an impressive fleet, the big shed is great protection, I don't like seeing equipment just parked where they finished. Even brand new stuff breaks down, so just keep your maintenance up on the current headers. The kinetic ropes are far superior to the straps, the soft shackles are excellent and the cover on the rope is called a 'sheath'. Look forward to the test video on them.
Wow that new shed is impressive. Always find the comments interesting how good people are at spending others money. You guys have the skills and parts appear plentiful so carry on as you are I would say. So annoying though when you have a breakdown given all the Maintenance you do over winter. All the electronics on the new machines are great till out of warranties and you can’t get access to the software. In industry if you buy a new machine you also get the software so you can fault find or modify, why this can’t happen with motors I don’t know.
Thanks for the summary Matt, I'm always wondering how your fairing on the margins
I was delighted to you got the crop off, that alone was a miracle.
Swapping two for one isn't something I would do.
One brakes down 100% loss capacity, one of two it's 50%.
In all fairness to your prep I thought it was extensive, it's a lottery just to source parts.
Whatever you do it will be good, just enjoying your content, bring on seedlings 😎
Just found you guys…. Im loving the content already!
Informative Harvest Results Update! ..Sounds like the Wagtail has moved in to the New shed Matt! Don't you the wife and kids get to go away after Harvest!! Folks just finishing off Lentils down south..In Victoria's Wimmera..CJ UK
Great news re the harvest, how you got any grain in the bin at all in the extreme wet year you had, is amazing . Hope you all have a great & healthy 2023, stay safe. Very poor form from ,that hydraulic motor repairer, saying oh well too bad it wasn’t 100% to avoid a claim. That’s their job to make it 100% and let you know at the time and. Give you the options .
Thankyou for your wonderful report on your, "THE Year 2022". Some people are never are able to understand
where & how much work there is in food production. Love your family fun.
Matt, your video editing skills compliment all the other skills the family needs to carry on; you guys are amazing! Thanks
Thanks for the encouragement!
Great video Matt
Matt it's good to hear you're gonna give it another go for next year. Wish you the best in "23" and hope to see as many videos as possible.
You guys will love the kinetic rope and soft shackles when you use them!
Replacing machines with new ones is only the answer for some scenarios. But you have the resources and the knowledge to keep these headers running. You can do maintenance and prepare, but things break. Buying new won't guarantee you still won't have breakdowns. New machines break down, too, that's why they offer a warranty, so it's a false economy. You also know the idiosyncracies of each header, and replacing two for one is a backward step in terms of backup and production. $1.2m is also a lot of profit going to leases rather than reinvesting in the farm. Thanks for the update too.
Someday I'll hopefully figure out why you guys call a harvester or combine a header
@@jpa1282 if you do find out, you can let us know because we have no idea. Also tell me why you guys call a torch a flash light, do you only put in on for a split second or is flash as in fancy?
@@mrsock3380 Hahaha, I was going to ask you the same thing but instead why do you call a flashlight a torch, do you use it to heat up metal so you can bend it?
@@obamabigears734 now you're trying to confuse the situation, you don't use a torch to heat metal, that's what an oxy is for. Next you're going to say you wrench on a wrench to do up a bolt, and that's just silly, everyone knows you wrench on a spanner to do up a bolt.
@@mrsock3380 Yes, we better stop before we get completely confused 😂
Great stuff Matt. 2 points came to mind. 1) get some lay flat hose to go over the new rope to keep the mud out. 2) It is very easy to over capitalise on equipment and then you have to learn the machine and have a great relationship with your local dealer.Just like some of the guys in the USA, brand new is not always better, but it is expensive to do here in OZ.
😄😄😄 I thought the sprayer was quite big but tucked away in the corner of THE shed it looks quite small 😄😄 Thanks for taking the time to put the video together .... the Development Block is quite a long way from the Home Block ... I imagine you have some back tracks you can take the D11's on .... actually I was surprised when Tiny 3 was delivered it was transported fully assembled. Two older well maintained headers will always be more productive than one new larger header
Great work, Team Jackson.
Hi Matt, yep farming is not to make millions and millions of dollars to roll around in/on and have all the new toys each year!! Yep that would be nice!!!!
It's a life style, make enough to live a good healthy life and bring up a family on, and have the means to do all over the following year. But it's getting harder each year as the costs are growing higher and higher but the rewards don't follow the high increase as the costs these days.
There is not another job in the world that you gamble all your costs up front months ahead of time and rely on the weather and the none guarantee of the final price for your goods on the day!!
Good too hear that things did not turn out to had with all the things you've had to overcome this year. Hoping for a better one next year.
Been fighting with new machinery all season, dealerships doesn’t have a a clue these days.
Thank you for sharing
🤗🙏🇺🇲
Hey Matt
Another awesome video. Thanks for the time you put into them.
Wishing you all a blessed year ahead!!
God bless
Nice to here how far the farms are apart with a convoy of machines back to main farm
Good Morning from Texas, looks like y'all are having fun again today😀
Hi guys .. great informative video Matt , goes to show how much preventative is undertaken breakdowns will always occur ..am thinking farming is life in general, shit happens and then you move on 👍🏼😀
Very good Video 👍👍
Good Video Matt ,another new year coming now for a little rest few beers and B B Q ❤️👍👍👍😀🦘🇦🇺
When I worked at a farm here in the United States we used a rope like that to pull out a dozer and we put a piece of rubber belting draped over the rope in the middle so if it broke it would most likely drop down lower if it sprang back
Matt, another year gone. and let's hope this one is better than the year just passed all in all a really good sum up of the gremlins playing havoc with the Jackson Brothers, Cheers for now Stephen over at Store Creek. Bye
Willie wagtail loves the new shed 😂
Thanks for the summary the farm hasn't had a bumper year but has taken a huge leap forward. Just unfortunate your preventative maintenance didn't go to plan. I don't expect new headers would cope better with rocks and day to day problems. They probably have a million sensors to go wrong too
We in the US a lot we call yankum rope.
Replacing 2 headers with 1 is silly, it's doesn't make economic sense.
Having the skill sets that you boys have, it's a really smart move to keep the old ones going.
Also you guys subcontract transport which means money not tied up in trucks.
Having bins on site is brilliant also.
You guys run a very smart financial operation and are commended for doing so.
Something people in the comments don't realise, is that a brand new 1.2 million dollar combine will STILL break down ;) Doesn't matter what colour it is the quality has all gone down, everything is plastic and designed to fail. And good luck finding parts for the new stuff if the aftermarket hasn't started making them yet, it would be a 1.2 million dollar garden ornament while you wait 6 weeks for parts to come across the ocean. And don't even get me started on all the software problems they have, gotta pay John Deere $30,000 every time you start a green machine these days or they lock the computer. And CNH and Agco do the same bullshit :( As an LV mechanic i have no personal interest in owning a vehicle built after 2010, and there was even a noticeable drop in quality across all manufacturers around 2000-2005, but after 2010 they are literally all disposable vehicles designed to last ~5 years then be scrapped, in most markets thats about as long as they are legal before the emissions regulations change. Machinery is exactly the same. The manufacturers realised they save money by making it cheap, and it fails sooner and can't be repaired if they don't sell parts, so they can sell a whole new machine :(
It’s called “built in obsolescence”.
It’s actually quite disgusting what they do to us layman. It’s the same even with hand tools these days. 2 yrs max and that’s if you’re not using them hard.
Cheers.
Don’t worry about them people saying that you should buy new headers I guarante they could not afford a quarter of one
Looking forward to the D11 tug-o-war with the kinetic rope - will it break or will the tracks dig dirt :)
You might already know this but Yankum makes a kinetic rope rated at 201,000 lbs.
Be cool to watch the rock picker work
Hi Scott, there is some cottage in Vlog 65 at about the 12minute mark, there is more throughout previous videos but I can’t remember where👍😁
Really enjoy your videos! One question, have you ever explained on any of your previous videos what these different blocks or farms are? How big are they and are they just used to grow different crops? Just curious.
That is a good question, I just know it is huge.
Matt, another great video. Is the pre-cleaner on the sprayer loose? It seemed to be flopping around a bit.
It must be such a nice feeling getting your gear parked away in the shed. Well deserved pat on the back.
Yes, it is, been like it for years😂😂
Wanna sell the gear? Use a lot of these soft shackle goods towing and moving transmission cases and parts around. Do you all have a inline filter for your hydraulic system? The ones they make for transmissions will work on your system the screw on canister style.
Hi mate, the hydraulic systems in most headers are a bit different and make it hard to filter all the oil as it needs to supply a massive volume without restricting the flow, they come with a filter but it only filters a percentage of the oil👍
Hey Matt thanks for the video. Hey how does the system of management work on the farm. Does your Dad call all the shots or do you boys have input into day to day running of the operation. Cheers Mate
Hi John, as of about 4yrs ago Brad and Phil are the bosses, dad and I just do what we are told, if you can believe it😂😂😂
As wonderful as those mother bins have to be when needed, don't they turn into a rubber tire nightmare as they age?
Generally not too bad but there is usually a couple flat tyres😂😂
Once you go to a new machine you are stuck going that route. Newer machines will not age as well as your current machines. New machines break down as well except they often require computers to fix.
Exactly; they have sensors all over them and they are often the weak link in the chain, it seems to me.
Is the price of fuel going down with you guys Matt, here in Northern Scotland it’s dropped from a high of £2.10 a litre to £1.67 👍🏻🏴
She’s been pretty steady here but has has dropped a little I believe👍
Like share comment. Any thing to help out
I can see why you call it a mother bin , she’s thick , great video !
I hope nutrien is paying yoh to wear that hat
