    Peter, your watch reviews are among the very best, I do enjoy every single one of them. Thank you. The blue Baltic Aquascaphe Dual-Crown is on its way to my grubby hands...and then it goes straight to a black Eulit perlon.

    Being french myself, I really like seeing foreign watch reviewers give their opinions on our industry. One that has substaintially grown up in the past 8 years with the arrival of many microbrands such as Baltic, Depancel, March Lab or the revival of Yema.
    This watch deserves a lot of credits, the finishing is superb (especially that radial brushing on the bezel, really cool detail), I really love the overall design and the case profile.
    Again, I really love your content Peter! Keep up the good work!!!

    These are really good looking watches. Baltic scores well in the style department with their vintage inspired collections. However some of models are on the diminutive side like the 36mm MR01s, faithful to the vintage thing I suppose. My fav is the blue aquascaphe on a beads of rice bracelet or the blue titanium aquascaphe. I also feel that the finishes and attractive designs warrant swiss movements. Great review as always, thanks Pete.

    Handsome piece. Beautifully subtle color, and I don't think I've seen that torqued radial brushing on the bezel before. In a proverbial sea of retro-ish divers, these are the sorts of special touches that tend to win me over.

    Outstanding review, HQ video - excellent production value ⭐
    Glad you mentioned the handset - I really like the hands, too. Original, functional, very well executed. I just got my grail (Sinn 194 I St Sa A on H-link 😍) so I can't justify another purchase for awhile. That said, this Baltic was the first "nice" watch that I drooled over when I went down the rabbit hole and is next on my list as the collection, like Seiko's business model, gets more "up-market".

    Lovely video, and I really like your pick!
    I hope you'll reconsider your wish for having a screw down crown for internal bezels. First, because it would be a pain to unscrew and re screw the crown every time you want to use the bezel. Second, the crown tube threads can wear out, so that's another failure point, especially for someone who uses their bezel multiple times each day (much more than you would use a crown for time setting). Third, correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that screw down crowns should never be unscrewed underwater, so that would mean that if you got your wish then you couldn't adjust the bezel while having the watch in the water--not ideal for a diver! In all, it seems to me that a non screw down crown for an internal bezel is much more practical than a screw down one.

    Mate!!! I happen to own the exact same watch! And I completely agree with your conclusions! The rotating bezel indeed doesn't move unintentionally which was a concern of mine. I noticed the same about the rubber strap - it's not very malleable but comfortable nonetheless. However, I mostly wear it on the beads of rice bracelet, it has brushed outer links and the clasp has plenty of micro adjust holes. I was genuinely thrilled to see this on the channel!! 💙

    • @memelogy737
      @memelogy737 Рік тому

      You would be trading a high quality bracelet then, I think the 9039 is a good rival to entry level swiss movements while being cheaper, so its a good trade off for a well designed bracelet.

    • @chi1057
      @chi1057 Рік тому

      @memelogy737 Sorry but I wouldn't have a Miyota over a Selita movement. Not saying it's not a good movement but it can found in watches a lot cheaper than this. The bracelet doesn't suit the watch for me, and with those high polished out links would be a scratch magnet. Each to their own .

    • @memelogy737
      @memelogy737 Рік тому

      @@chi1057 fair enough, Miyota at this price is still acceptable as compared to some German fliegers that use the same but cost upwards of $1000 lol, not to mention Miyota released a Gmt movement that is also found in some micros for around $500 and offers far better specs compared to the Seiko SSK GMT

    • @chi1057
      @chi1057 Рік тому

    Baltic offers good stuff. Bought the sector dive with the 8315, very nice watch and superb dial. My only cons their cases are too light on the wrist. And the 8315 sounds cheap when spinning Th 9 series is much less louder but noisy. I think the case build plays a lot. I have a relio with a 9 serie, I can’t hear it spinning

    Beautiful watch, I like the Baltic brand. I think I would probably justify buying the watch at that price point if it came with the bracelet instead? It definitely could use more micro adjustments on the clasp. I do like the look of the satin and shiny finish on the bracelet but agree that it should have a brushed finish instead. Another great video Pete, thanks mate!

    I cannot believe this is the first Baltic for you, Peter. It's been a microbrand darling for some years now. But I'm especially glad that it holds up. This model, more so than most of their catalogue, doesn't trade so heavily on retro-credentials. This looks quite modern and with that comes more character. I'm not entirely surprised at the price, but probably a Sellita would have been possible. I have noticed a few brands, especially once preorder pricing is over, are paying what one might expect for a Miyota 9 series. Isn't Beaubleu similarly ambitious for the movement? So yes, these French brands trade on their style and execution. For me it feels like it will have to happen one of these days, that I cannot resist a new piece from one of the 'nouvelle vague'. This isn't quite my genre, but I could wear this, and I love the dressy touch of the bracelet. A pity they haven't given it a hardened coating, then that would take away a major concern. On rubber it stays probably too sporty for me.

    The Baltic totally own the Dan Henry DH1970 (sapphire *coated* mineral crystal) and the Spinnaker (with it's weird bulbous, distorting sapphire crystal and unrefined, disappointing hands). The Baltic really is a cut above. I, however, couldn't resist taking the AliX route and getting 3 colorways of the same watch (WTF?🤦🏼) The Rdunae R3, a cheap clomage of all of the above mentioned nice watches. At the sale price, they can be worn hard and carefree. However, this blue Aquascaphe dual crown will be mine... 💸 It oozes quality.

    Nice review Pete, it’s a beautiful looking watch, but I do think it’s a tad expensive for what you’re getting under the bonnet, the Miyota is a reliable movement but it’s not in Swiss price territory, and considering the price it would’ve been nice if Baltic included a screw down crown for the inner bezel.
    You reviewed a similar compressor watch not long ago ‘the Beaufort Seatrekker’ …compared to the Aquascaphe and putting aesthetics aside, I think you’re getting better value for money with the Seatrekker.

    They look classy, no doubt, but a watch it supposed to keep time. You wouldn’t keep a beautiful fridge that didn’t cool. I’m not sure why they couldn’t fix it or why they sent it back if it wasn’t working.

    i agree. if baltic just airdrop in a sellita movement and mark the price up accordingly, it will be that much more attractive of a watch to own. in fact i can say the same about most of their watches. not that there's anything wrong with their in-house qc on chinese movements (they use at least 2 different chinese movements on their other watches), it's that fact that the perceived quality and prestige of their dial and case don't match the movement. imo the movement is the only thing preventing baltic from reaching the height of christopher ward as a microbrand. they've pretty much got everything else right.

      @@IDKline nothing is the same that exactly what I said about the first orient king diver gen. For the revival 70th of this orient it’s kind
      of look of the Longines (handset, dial etc…) but just kind of , the Longines is way above of course which is normal considering the price range way above also. Nevertheless Orient and citizen are best bang for the buck and few qc issues with their nice spec entry level divers 👍and I add the watch industry is a copy design industry from the last 60 years at 98%…..and Swiss brads the first. Even seiko is sleeping from 20 years now with rééditions and re-edit…..

    That watch is whack at that price. The bracelet clasp is a complete joke. Traska runs circles around this shit all day

    Like your videos Pete. Love this watch too. I can see myself buying a Baltic down the road. France has a rich history in watchmaking, Great to see microbrands reviving the industry in many countries.
