The stupidity in the comments baffles me The man talked for those who cared to listen, this is not about you, your ideas or beliefs... and neither for mine Unfortunately I discovered Harry Dean a tad bit too late, and I'm just glad there are those interviews left behind him He left with a shine, and that I admire
I appreciate your comments about HDS. As for comments; Jesus, you could spend a lifetime wading through the idiocy expressed through the comments on UA-cam.
I find your (view)point very good and important. Let's all of us think a little about whether there is any sense in preying upon some "stupid" comments of other people and then hastily critizing them... as if "we" - I mean the criticizers - are omniscient (all-knowing) and always right in everything we talk about.
Harry Dean Stanton was born in Kentucky on July 14, 1926. He was an American actor, musician, and singer In a career that spanned more than six decades. His last film was "Lucky." Harry Dean Stanton (who played the role of Lucky) did not live long enough to see the official release of the movie in USA on 29 September 2017. He died on 15 September 2017 at the age of 91.
He's right about predestination. It's a spectrum of the things we can do, the permutations of them as well. If you bring them all together, there's only so much we can do.
+Androvsky What can we do ? Sincerely, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea of predestination. If we become aware of predestination are we then able to separate ourselves from it and then have the ability (through awareness) to form a new destination ?
MrBeautifulba1 No. We think we could form something new but the reality is that our range of action is limited (You gotta see it as a spectrum with permutations, however there are only so many permutations, never infinite. Near infinite perhaps even, but never infinite. We are not unique on the micro and macro level. Like the monkey who types random things on a typewriter can eventually end up writing works of poetry.) However, there is only so much one can do physically, much worse if one is to be influenced by hormones, circumstances, pain, attitudes. We will never become aware, we are just following instructions formulated by chemical reactions. We are in essence biological computers and what are computers essentially? A sequence of electric pulses that are distributed throughout a circuitry through logic gates (neurons). I don't get why people say that we store memory different than hardware if we are just memorizing number patterns (binary) and are able to use pattern recognition (our greatest evolutionary mutation). So through pattern recognition people are able to choose differing paths (ergo apparent 'awareness'), but there's only so many paths one can take. So we are practically doomed to repeat our actions (e.g. mistakes) at some point in the future. So from the point of conception of the big bang until the inevitable entropic death of heat (vibrating energy particles) in the universe, there is only so many things that can happen. We would have to travel outside of our universe to see higher near-infinite possibilities (things like magic or flying teapots) But even that is uncertain.
But do you think that once we have more of an understanding of our "programming" and the mechanics of our operating systems that from just from knowing these realities that we can then have "free will" per say ? I mean, if I am able to observe my actions and the thoughts that proceed those actions isn't that determining the choices we make instead of just being on "automatic pilot" ?
MrBeautifulba1 observing actions don't make you make those actions. We're under the illusion that we have free will and that we are conscious. So it's moot to try to fight for free will while it's never been there. There's no free will in this reality. It's like you're stuck in 3D space and you wanna go to 4D space. There are x possibilities so therefore there's a near infinite but still limited spectrum, however you cannot go outside that spectrum (into 4D or higher space).. If we go outside our universe,(i speculate that) the laws of physics don't apply anymore and therefore free will can take place. Because you're not influenced by anything and nothing at the same time (like quantum space, 4D space as well), you can truly make a choice that is based on your own will rather than an influence. As long as our hardware pumps chemicals, we remain illusioned by our 'consciousness' to believe that we do have a consciousness. Maybe AI will be able to reach free will (they are our upgraded successors). We would have to be true gods to have free will, since they're supposed to have omniscience.
Androvsky As I try to comprehend everything that you're saying I'm filled with an odd sense of relief as well as a strange sadness about it all. What's really mind boggling to me, is that events that occurred billions of years ago, has led both you and I to this exact moment in time and space. Everything that has ever happened in both of our lives has led us to right NOW. (Which of course is all relative.) Well, whether I have free will or not, I'd like to act like that I'm choosing to send you fantastic thoughts and truly wish the best for you and everyone else that you come into contact with. Cheers Brother !!!

He has my sympathy; because he's dead wrong on several things. For one, we are unique and individual... each one of us was fearfully and wonderfully made... and that isn't an ego trip... it's a reality for each one of us. I know in this Culture of Death that we live in today, it's popular to believe each one of us is not much more than a pile of shit in the grand scheme of things, but this pervasive, perverted notion is merely a sign of the times themselves. That said, I always did enjoy his acting... particularly in Cool Hand Luke and Christine.
