Let’s be real, the most realistic part of this is that after years of marriage, Garak still refers to Julian as «my dear doctor»
Hearing that here melted my heart I always thought of it as an adorable pet name in DS9
My grandpa still calls my grandma “Dr. ”, the last I remember.
Yes! Such endearments are what make the intimacy of the relationship real.
I was seventeen when I witnessed Elim and Julian's very first meeting. I have literally waited my entire adult life to hear this.
I was about fifteen and SO MUCH SAME.
I was 14 when I watched the final episode (a couple years after it aired). I still have the very long, very teen-angsty journal entry I wrote about it at the time - I just went back and read it after watching this. I was so crushed by how unresolved things were left between G/B - I mean, I knew it was coming, but I just felt so strongly about what could/should have been. Could never have imagined I'd be here 20 years later getting to see this happen. 😭😭😭
I was a lot older than you guys when I saw DS9 for the first time, but I've been waiting ever since then too. Garak-Bashir will always be the first gay couple in Star Trek to me, and no romance ever touched me as deeply. I am beyond grateful and happy that the actors agreed to do this show, and of course eternally thankful to the author!! 💖🖖
Same. Wow, same.
I didn't get this vibe when I was watching back in the 90s but looking back it is so clear! Julian and Ezri never felt right and now I know why. These two had the REAL chemistry.
The concept that garrick is using a filter to look human like some a teenager with cat ears is hilarious I love it so much!!
so, obviously "husband" was a meaningful word to hear, but i was surprised how much hearing "disabilities" also meant to me. thank you all for this.
god right!!! like, i wrote a whole paper on the portrayal of disability in star trek and i used julian's being coded as disabled in a large portion of it but MAN actually *hearing it said out loud???* be still my disabled heart i'm gonna be riding this high for the rest of the year
oh my god im actually sobbing at him calling him husband
Star Trek: Picard, just call these two, and make it canon. It can be for one episode, everyone wants it, just let it happen.
yesss please
oh my god yes can you imagine
Make it so
Yes. MAKE IT SO!
This is the way
14:27 '' what must i give to have a decent uninterupted coversation WITH MA HUSBAND'' i love this with all my life
Omg that smile when he says "my husband"
I would really really love Bashir and Garak to appear in the next season of Picard, just in passing, just to see them... Like, the crew need some obscure Cardassian tech, and lo and behold, Garak can get his hands on it, so the crew visit them on Cardassia.
And one of the women tries to flirt with Bashir... "Can we really trust the crazy lizard?"
And Bashir replies "the crazy lizard is my husband." And smiles...
And that's all! That's the appearance we need!!! Please 🙏🥺 !!!
"the crazy lizard is my husband."
send the script.
SEND THE SCRIPT
That would be amazing
Yes!
@@topogigio7031 I'd totally be down for writing that script ngl😭✋✨
They deserve their own show. A spy-themed one with Obrien, hunting down changeling infiltrators.
Together 20+ years.
Just now helped each other make major psychological breakthroughs.
Garak still won’t turn the damn filter off.
I liked him better as a cardassian
Can't someone just make a real cardassian filter? That'd be awesome.
The fact that they call each other “Garak” and “Doctor” through out this makes those first name drops so much more beautiful. I don’t care, this is cannon now. Paramount can fight us.
Turns out, Paramount couldn't fight this any longer. They are finally officially canon on screen :)
I applaud the writer of this piece Garak's speech patterns are not the easiest to match from the 90s. It's quite an achievement.
yo they did so good
Robinson is also still nailing the inflection though
@@overgrownkudzu and the mannerisms, even his movements and body language were spot on.
The happy ever after that Garak and Bashir should have had ❤️
At some point they lived happily ever after, and no-one will convince me otherwise! 💖🖖
PS. If the actors were happy to do this - which obviously they were - that's canon enough for me! 💖🖖
That HAVE. To me, this is CANOOOOOOOON. 🥰🥰🥰
Canon events friend, canon events
They do now, at least in some parts of the multiverse ♥
This is an immense achievement for the fandom. Not. just Garashir, nor Star Trek. Every fandom ever.
I was torn on whether to upvote or not, because mine became number 70, taking away the fun number ;_;
Absolutely, fans have so often been let down by either corporate owners trying to squeeze more money out of a franchise, or such lazy writing that everybody starts to dislike what they initially loved. Here we have fans deciding and taking ownership of the things they love. And why shouldn't we?! In this specific case having Julian and Garak fall in love, in the 1990s, would have meant the world to so many people. Today we have gay characters in Star Trek, but that's not really very radical is it? They are very dull characters. It's almost like they wrote the show and thought 'Oh, we have to have gay people in it these days', and just picked two random guys ("Guys, you and you are going to be the obligatory gay ones- practice doing soft dialogue close to each others faces- I'm afraid you will probably have to do a kiss too") . They are so forgettable I can't even remember their names right now, but Julian and Garak, that was always a love story!
@@leehawkins616 completely agree. implicit gay couples like Garashir, are always better than explicit ones done by people who don’t get it, anyway. what’s his name and what’s his face are so dull - where’s the intrigue? the chemistry? the character? - and really, they’re only echoes of Garashir anyway.
Andrew Robinsons performance of Garak has always been among my favorite characterizations. He always brought the character to life. That cadence, that tone and of course, the eyes. lol
I can't be the only one that was visualizing Andrew in his Garak makeup. :D
Coming back 4 years later to thank Lower Decks. They're cannon(ish)!! Let's go!!
Yes! I just came here to write this as well :)
9 rick bermans disliked this
And they were husbands.... ❤
my god they were husbands
And they were husbands!
And they're husbands
The best part about this was the in-universe explanation for why Garak looks human, lol. Love it!
That got me laughing!
The very affronted "I will not!" about turning it off, too, and Bashir just resigning himself to it as Garak continues.
Julian: "yuck, I don't like it, turn it off."
Garak: "I will not."
Hahahahaha
The first run of this was hilarious. "Why the HELL do you look like a human?"
Although this time around I'm getting a kick out of Julian's scandalously unbuttoned shirt.
Just came to rewatch this after the latest episode of Lower Decks. I'm so happy that Garak and Bashir finally got on-screen recognition of their relationship! 🎉 And it was marvellous to see and hear the characters in Star Trek canon again, and voiced so brilliantly! ♥
Cardassia is not Julian's home
When he says "set a course for home" he means Garak.
They sound exactly as the tv series. The actors are brilliant and the writting is excellent. I love how the fans give this characters the happy ending they deserve. Beautiful justice to garak and bashir.
Not on my tinny Kindle Fire, sadly. It's like putting my ear to the wall & spying on the neirghbirs. lol.
"Well, I would not have used a single one of those words, but that was my meaning." The grudging affection in that delivery was perfect.
The fact that Garak still calls Julian "my dear" at every opportunity is the cutest thing
I imagine Julian returning home to Garak and being relieved to see his real face, touching it, then kissing him hello. “So glad to have you back, Garak,” he’d say.
“And I you, doctor.”
"It's only been a few days, Garak." XD
Julian was such an important character for me. He helped me to come to terms with my autism and my sexuality. Seeing this, both the beautiful relationship with Garak finally fulfilled and the use of the word 'disability', was so valuable to me. Thank you so much to everyone involved in the making of this piece of art; it was so wonderfully validating!
Me too. I tried to cure myself of both being a lesbian and having autism when I was an 11 year old child, but then I found Star Trek. Finally, a community that valued diversity of all forms. It helped me save my own life. I become an adult in 2 days, but I will never grow out of ds9 being my favorite show. I'm so glad they did this!
This is cannon now. This is absolutely cannon and I love it. I have been blessed with seretonin.
They have a garden together on cardassia prime and no one can tell me otherwise
Hearing Garak talk about the little achievments beign fulfilling and Bashir talk about how needing to do something useful to feel worthy of breathing, I feel it in my soul; I've barely left the house the last 3 days because it felt like going out was pointless if I couldn't do something worthwhile. I needed this today thank you
This is like a dream granted by the Prophets.
I love the “bleebeebebblebeeb” sound effect so much lmao!
Hello I never comment on UA-cam videos but I have to inform you that I died, was resurrected, and died again.
Thank you so much. This was beautiful.
It was a rare pleasure seeing Garak’s tenderness.
Thank you for giving us more stories of Bashir and Garak. Looking forward to the next story.
Bashir: Even after years, everything in my life taught me I'm only worth the air I breathe if I do something useful with my time and have the credentials to prove it.
Garak: And quite the fallacy, that is.
Oh Gods I teared up at this point. What a wonderful little play!
2020 HAS BEEN S A V E D
Haha.
so much serotonin for my brain
oh my god
The message noise is KILLING me.
is that a human going OOO OOO ?
I keep imagining Vitas going blblblblbl.
I DAMN CACKLED
BLEAEAEAEARGH!
"That is... definitely YOUR computer."
I am not sure what to say other than thank you from the bottom of my heart. Seeing Julian and Garak growing up and mirroring my experience as them being closeted in a way. Star Trek was what taught me to be a man and a good person and gave me role models when the ones I had around were abusive, derisive, bigots. To see them step into the light and get their 'happily ever after' as it were makes me cry. I can only hope I will grow as old, duplicitous and IN LOVE as Garak is with Julian with my own husband. This is cannon to me and it will always be. Thank you both for this amazing gift and thank you to the community for putting this together. Live Long and Prosper.
Thank you Lower Decks.
Came here to write this, too :)
Ay what a joy to hear Garak again. And how odd that over the years Bashir's smile has become so more loveable. Must be the effect of their relationship! Thanks guys!
FROM 19:00 ON MY SHIPPING HEART CANT TAKE IT IM ACTUALLY GONNA CRY
I still haven't stopped internally squeeing.
me too!! i wasn't sure how far they'd go but they went ALL the way and i couldn't be happier :')
@@laelnewton6624 I can't get over how much Sid was smiling through those lines, too!
IKR this was my fav ship in the entire trek fandom and considering it’s the actors reading this it’s technically cannon!!
@@thunderjaynepaws G/B is honestly the best fandom I've ever participated in ❤
Awwww, lovely. My favorite space husbands! Those two need their own show... Or just have Picard & Co. head to Cardassia and meet them next season!
I'd actually love for Trek to address what Cardassia is like at this point. By the time of ST: Picard, it's been 24 years since the Dominion basically laid waste to the planet and the Cardassian Union was dissolved. Is Cardassia still a hellhole? Is the Cardassian civilization recovering? I want to know!
@@FlatPlutoSociety It's entirely possible that Allied Reconstruction efforts were still ongoing when the UFP first learned of the stellar issues threatening Romulus. It would explain the hasty nature of the fleet being assembled in flashbacks.
I believe a few star charts that came out around the time of Picard as promo said that Cardassia joined the federation, but that could easily be overwritten
@@Angie-Way Hadn't seen any atlas updates since "Stellar Cartography", which does go immediate post-Hobus Event but was made prior to Sir Patrick's return, so that's interesting.
The ST relaunch novels are, I suspect, not going to be too compatible with the stories Chabon et al wanted to tell (the Destiny trilogy in particular changes a lot of games). But there was a wealth of story material to weave into the background, so I was hoping that the astropolitical situation would be at least broadly similar.
For the uninitiated, the Khitomer Accords alliance between the UFP and the Klingon Empire was expanded to include the Ferengi Alliance and the Cardassian Union (with talks ongoing with the Talarian Republic). This was made easier in response to the Typhon Pact (a currency union and mutual defense treaty (also sharing cloaking technology)) amongst the Romulans, Tholians, Breen, Gorn and Tzenkethi. At any rate, we have a Cardassian glinn serving aboard the Ent-E in the 2380s as part of the officer exchange program....
i think i read that cardassia recovered pretty well under garaks leadership. afterwards, he becamean ambasssador for a while and you meet him during sto in that part of his life. this presumably would be after that.
Bravo! In a time where CGI is taking over everything SiFi, it is so refreshing to watch something that is pure acting and still extremely entertaining!
I can't believe I've been blessed with this glorious thing
*happy sobs for days*
Dear Alex And Andrew. You're characters, your dynamic, and your passion is a big part of what gets me through life..
I know some people would think I am being sycophantic, but I do not care. Especially Andrew, I owe you, and hope to repay in the next life ...
The fact these two can seamlessly jump into these roles again after decades shows ds9 had the best talent out of all trek. I miss the brilliant writing and character interactions.
"Oh, right, like you imply whenever you want a foot massage." makes me giggle to hear even now
also can we shine a light on how fun and detailed Irena Komunjer + Randy Roy's makeup/costuming shit was?? They were so fun to watch and added some depth to the whole story space. call me McD's cuz I am Lovin' It
Andrew still has the gift -- with the makeup, he'd still pull it off.
This is just delightful! I barely contained myself when Andy said "my husband." !!! And the computer beeps made me laugh so hard. Thank you so much for this!
Timestamp please?

This was so heart-warming thing to watch! Not to say a real gem cause how often do we, fans, get to hear fanfictions read by actual actors who had been playing the roles of our beloved characters?
Not to say Bashir and Garak being old married couple is something so natural and wholesome! It's so great that it's fine by both actors to play it.
Thank you all ppl out there for making it possible. Simple, lovable story. Oh, and it was so cool to see Sid and Andy together again. I adore them. 😊
I'm rewatching DS9. I just finished the episode where Garak invades Bashir's 007 holosuit story. It's good to see that about two decades after being jealous of photonic bond girls Garak can simply demand attention from his *husband*
Oh, well I didn't realize I'd be receiving such an enormous amount of validation today. I want so badly to meet these men and thank them for the work they have done, and what they have done for me.
It’s been twenty years, this is amazing and I cried
I'm laughing and screaming so loud my children are worried about me. Lol.
You can't just hit me with that out of the blue! Here I am, thinking this will be a fun little short continuation like thing and then you drop THAT ON ME!!! AAAAHHHHHHHH!!! I'm actually so happy right now you don't understand!!!!!
"Welllllllllllllllll I would not have used a single one of those words, but yes" is just such a great line, as written and delivered.
Wonderful work to all involved, I loved the humor sliding so easily into sentiment and how their relationship seemed just the same but also layered with the feeling of years of a relationship. When Garak said the word 'husband' I wanted to cry. So glad to finally have this even after the show is over. Amazing!
I- died. And was given life again. I had no idea this existed, but I’m glad I know now! Andy and Sid’s fan service... my god. I’m amazed by every aspect of this. Especially the message noises, they were taking me all the way out.
We should see these two make an appearance in Picard! How awesome would that be!
Or even Lower Decks!!! It would make my year!!!!!
Omg that would be so amazing!! I realise it would turn 100% fan service, but the timelines allow for it.
We don’t have much time left so I hope they do
I don’t know what to say except I am glad that in at least some universes they both grew old together and learned to change indeed in an healthier way. And I am glad this exists. Thank you !
I just kept saying "Awww"
Please let them be in Lower Decks I would die of joy
i just have so many bad experiences with actors playing characters who are interpreted as lgbtqia+ by the public, seeing this is so refreshing and reassuring as a part of the community
"My dear Doctor....." How wonderful! How marvellous! So lovely hearing Garak again! And Julian! I so much more prefer this to the uninspiring drivel of 'modern Trek!
I cannot believe this happened. 💛💛💛 As someone who watched DS9 as a teen 20+ YEARS AGO and wished so badly that something like this could be possible... this is seriously so beyond special. Thank you so, so much to everyone involved.
Time to start drawing again. Words can not begin to describe my absolute bliss.
It truly was a great performance and should definitely be given move notice, not only was the voice acting sublime and the new characters were just perfectly wacky too, in the best way of course and honestly its just amazing to see the fans getting what they want and a whole load more, myself included. 🥰👏👏👏👏
I love these two. Give them a show and see if we can’t save Trek
I'm in 100% agreement with you.
Biggest fail with Picard season 1 : no reformed rebuilding “nice” Cardassians (a la West Germany in the 1960s).
The whole Picard show was depressing. No question the 7 of 9 and riker moments were great but the rest was like going to a funeral. Had vomit in my mouth most of the time.
Linda Adams I would argue that wasn’t even 7 of 9 - that character was an alcoholic butch bi sexual rebel fighter
@@mikey2363 No arguments here. 👍
Regarding 8:10 or so -- I seem to recall, in the DS9 Relaunch Novels, that Ezri and Julian couldn't make it work (though not for lack of trying), as neither could exorcise the Ghost in The Room so soon after Jadzia's death. Ezri later recalls Bashir as an infuriating lover but a very dear friend in 2385. Given the plethora of splinter continuations of the DS9 story, it's always interesting to find points of commonality in the character development.
Awwwwww
I am Obsessed with these audio "season 8" episodes! You guys are really filling in a void for my Trek Fandom, ha!
What audio episodes? I'm curious!
This is the cutest thing I've ever seen and I'm dying of joy.
I don't believe I have ever happy stimmed as much as I just have after I finished watching this. I can't express how good of an impact this had on my day.
I guess we need a new show, The Bashir-Garak's! Make it so, CBS All Access!
I simply closed my eyes and listened to this. The fulfillment of hearing this relationship solidified in the voices of the actors was so satisfying and wonderful. What an absolute treat that we were so lucky to get. If only we had been able to see this play out in the series. I have a very special place in my heart for these two.
I can't even begin to describe how happy this makes me. Pure joy.
Just those last few seconds! Ah! To be alive and see this!
the subtitles call Garak 'Garrett' and i find it funnier than i should.
If you're in a google meet class and you're trying to use the subtitles because you can't focus on verbal teaching...
It's interesting. Especially when learning another language.
I hope to see more of this kind of thing, it’s just so fabulous. I really enjoyed Alone together so this was amazing!
An excellent short series. The story was compelling and as such there was almost no need the high tech special effects. The actors made this story come to life. I hope there will be more !! Perhaps with some other characters from DS9.
...and now I have to explain to my parents why I just yelled HELL YEA.
Oh no, I came here already expecting to be killed by this whole thing (having read the script already), but nothing prepared me for the notification noises!!
This is so wonderfully adorable and perfect.
Well that was the sweetest thing ever. I need more. Like how did the rest of DS9 react?
How sweet and wonderful this is ❤️ I had a enormous smile the entire time. To have the two actors bring to life the words and future we'd imagined for them so often, is so immensely gratifying. Thank you to everyone who made this possible!!
This might be one of the greatest things I've ever seen in my life. I'm fucking crying, y'all.
I doubt there will ever be a UA-cam video that means as much to me emotionally as this one.
Oh my gosh, am I dreaming?? How can this be real? I'm beyond thrilled! I've shipped those two a long time and even tho I knew the actors did too, I had no idea they really would go this far and bless us with this wonderful video! I'm so glad to find out about this, even if a little late! Thank you so much Sid and Andy and everybody, I can't express my happiness and gratitude!
Fantastic! Thank you Alex and Andrew for being the most considerate, adaptable and heartfelt Trek actors!!
Absolutely great. I hope there is more.
I love you guys. Thanks Alexander and Andrew. I must say I am happy to see you two in dialogue as Bashir and Garek. Live long and prosper. 🌟🖖
Thank you all for such a wonderful story. I wish it had aired 25 years ago but some how, this is better. I am dying for the missing bits of this story.
The older he gets the more Garak he becomes
THEY LITERALLY DID THIS I'M GOING TO CRY
Good job all around!! I’m glad to see the final editing leaves no sign of last Friday’s technical difficulties. Fantastic script to bring these characters back to life. This was a real treat.
This makes me so happy! Garak is definitely a contender for best Star Trek character of all time for me, certainly my favorite from DS9. I have been watching through DS9 for the first time over the past few months, almost finished now, and Bashir and Garak's chemistry on screen is always one of the best parts of the show and makes me really upset they never got together canonically.
i'm foaming at the mouth and i'm falling to pieces i am melting into a bucket i'm being ejected from the airlock i'm insane i'm more alive than i've ever been andy in character as garak saying "my husband" about bashir i'm out of my mind this is the best youtube video ever and i'm so happy
