    Girl me too! I had double jaw surgery in 2020 and it’s going to be three years this upcoming fall. Many times I don’t have sensation if I have some thing on my chin or bottom lip. For example, if I am eating something messy, I’m not going to know. I have residue on my chin or lip unless someone tells me or I look in the mirror. I did visit my surgeons department recently and they did mention taking biotin or B12 pills within the first several months after surgery may bring back the sensation, but it’s not guaranteed. So for everyone reading this, please make sure to take biotin and B12 pills after surgery because this helps the nerves recover!! Even though this surgery was the most physically and mentally difficult recovery I had to deal with, I don’t regret it, because my life has changed for the better since I had this done.

      I've been taking B12 and right now a B complex and I feel like this has been helping. Although sometimes it's like a roller coaster and sometimes I get a weird sensation in my lower right lip. But it's become less and less over time some months ago it was more numb it's almost been a year since my surgery. Hopefully it works but the numbness I would say is like around 1.5-2 percent at times for me now. But goes away. Thank you for that information.

      I just got double jaw surgery on Aug 31 of 2023. Literally after the third day, breathing through my nose has never felt so easy. I never knew how much my bite effected my breathing until after the procedure. It’s literally the best feeling in the world and it’s so much easier to sleep with my mouth closed as well since I no longer have to breathe through my mouth!

      @@22aku867 it went great! My surgery was a little different as it was to correct a overbite, but still the same process. Recovery during the first week was toughest. My medication would wear off between dosages- so getting through that was the biggest hurdle. I still have braces now, but hopefully I’ll be getting them off soon! & I couldn’t be happier with my smile now!
      I still have aches and pains occasionally- it usually feels like an ear ache but it’s easily manageable.
      And just like this video, I still have numbness along my bottom gumline, but it takes up to a year to know if sensation will come back there.
      Other than that, I’m eating everything again and don’t regret the surgery one bit

    You look beautiful regardless 💐 I am on week 4 post op my double jaw surgery. Interestingly enough, my surgeon told me not to ice my face after I was out of the hospital, because it can compromise the blood flow and proper oxygenation of the healing tissue and as a result slow down or compromise the recovery of the nerves. He tells me icing is only helpful right after the surgery impact, just for the first few days and afterwards he instructed to use heat only to tackle the swelling down. Recently I started feeling my lips, but not the chin yet. But initially I was very confused, because most people on UA-cam who post videos about this type of surgery ice regularly as a part of their daily routine.

    • @kyyahabdularchives
      @kyyahabdularchives  Рік тому +5

      Very interesting! I was told to ice frequently to combat swelling and eventually switched to heat. Im wondering if I heat again (1 yr post op) will it aid in nerve regen? That or acupuncture

    • @anastasia3103
      @anastasia3103 Рік тому +3

      I would say you have zero swelling at this point, so heat pads would probably be useless, but acupuncture could be helpful. You never know until you try, I am planning on getting a course of acupuncture myself once they unwire my jaws and get the stitches out. I am being wired shut for a whole month 😑 much longer than my fellow UA-camrs 😅 super annoying lol

    I had double jaw surgery as well. That was in June 1999, so I'm nearly 25yrs post...
    My face continued to change for about a yr or so after as everything 'settled' in their new position.
    I didn't get feeling back completely eithee though i was lucky, as its just 1 side of my lower lip & chin.
    I don't regret having the surgery either! It was the best thing for me, even with all the preparation work beforehand & the issues i had during recovery. I still get a flutter of excitement every single time i bite into an apple!

  • @Ava_Grigg

    I just barely got lower jaw surgery. My body for some reason doesn’t react to swelling medication so I have to deal with it full on. I’ve never experienced such horrible swelling like my cheeks inside my mouth are over my teeth and I can barely talk. But my doctor didn’t hit that specific nerve that would take away the feeling in my lip and I didn’t get a numbing medication just morphine that still allows my face to feel everything just not as harshly! ❤

    That's unfortunate but does happen sometimes. Some surgeries are more likely to take away the feeling than others. For my mom, she had a C-section when having my little brother, and she never regained feeling in her lower abdomen. It happens, and it's unfortunate, but it is liveable. I'm sorry you lost feeling in part of your face, I hope that the doctor was wrong and that feeling eventually does come back, even if it's unlikely.
