Being in Basic and AIT, mostly Basic, you don't get alot of food. You don't starve, but you don't really get food in between meals and you are given the bare minimum for optimal performance. You appreciate the food. In fact, that is usually the highlight of your day.

Fun fact: You should heat up the food while it is still in the individual packets.

This hurts to see y’all do this hahah you put the packet in with the heater to cook. When you get cheese or peanut butter mead it together so you spread everything out.

FIST TIME usually needs a bit more preparation than an MRE
I'd love to see or hear comments from Julia's brother after he watched her try and prep the MRE's. Also would love to see their reaction to C-Rations which were still around in my day in the Army. Nothing like opening a box of C-Rations to find a pack of Lucky Strike Green Label from WWII when they changed the moto to Lucky Strike Goes to War in a reaction to the Japanese Meatball aka rising sun emblem.

I was in the Marine Corps and MRE’s were made by civilian companions for the military
My Dad was in the British Army and the Australian Army Reserves, can vouch that they are civilian foods in plain packages designed for minimum preparation.
Gotta go out to the field for two weeks starting Tuesday. Man I’m not ready to eat these again. They tare your stomach up.

The accessory pack on some MRE’s have hot sauce in them.
Back in the 90's, a friend brought some over. They had tiny bottles of tabasco sauce! I saved them because they were so cute. :)

As someone who had to use MRE’s during hurricane Ike you guys are hilarious when it comes to fixing these.

I've a lot of these during hurricane season especially since major hurricanes like Katrina. We live in a small area and power was out for weeks so they brought us MRE's. They're not bad.

I was in the Army. The Mac beef was the best. We used lawry’s seasoning salt on it. Improved the taste.

Up is funny as it is, and then Julia just makes it better. This couple makes entertainment to everyone :] you should only eat chocolate cake for 24 hours.
Most military end up having their favorites. You learn what’s in each package and then try to make sure you grab the same one. They do change the menu to mix it up. My favorite was always the sloppy joe. Second was the beef enchilada. Worst one is the breakfast egg omelet.

Military food is really interesting, I don't imagine how they can make it that caloric despite I understand why the food is like that. This is really funny and I adored you tried the stuff with no excessive explanations. Hope you can try the military japanese curry as well! The most crazy thing I've seen of military supplies!

The reason why they are so calorie dense is because you might have to go a LONG time before you get to refuel on top of partaking in high energy activities.

I loved MRE's when I served in the Army. We had them anytime we were in the field and they could not get a hot meal to us. In BASIC the Drill Sargent never promised us a hot meal everyday once we left for the field.
You got to try the spaghetti. I used to like the strawberry n cream only I ate it dehydrated it tastes better

This is one episode that should be redone and with a lot more respect given to the food! There are service members around the world that their only food choices are mre's! With that said now think about how many food choices you have that you tale for granted.

Back in 1988 when I did my boot camp at Ft. Jackson, I had the damn Chicken alla King. Omg I hated it lol I called it the Alla Crap. I only seemed to get that one.
Dang did they call it relaxin jackson back then I'm only asking cuz some do today but you know what's crazy from 2019 to 2021 major differences no more shark attack they added the acft and now the acft isnt even a requirement to graduate bct I only know this cuz I've been trying to join since early 2020
Says she does it right/knows how to cook the food.. Proceeds to do it incorrectly. The food goes in the pouch with water and then gets rolled up and put in the original box

30 years in the army, I lived off MRE .
1. There are no microwaves in the field, boiling water to heatthe package.
2. Always carry A1 sauce or Tabasco sauce apply to everything in package! "Trust me, you will live longer"
3. Marines say "HOORAH"

My favorite one is the beef jalapeño patty but you guys got a really weird beef jalapeño Patty normally it’s either barbecue sauce with mayonnaise and peanut M&Ms with an oatmeal cookie

These are loads better than they used to be too. Jalapeno cheese used to be rare and the mountain house blueberry oats is straight from freeze dried backpacking food. When you are genuinely hungry in the middle of nowhere, MREs as easy hot food is awesome.
When I was in service I loved the jalapeno cheese and the regular cheese. Dude can y'all hook me up?
The jalapeño beef is the best MRE, it has all the best snacks. I eat with the BBQ sauce

The cookie and crackers/cheese are probably the most prized items in these types of meals on top of any packaged candy. You could probably trade it for just about anything someone else has in their MRE.
Lol I’m a US Marine we usually eat MREs none cooked we get lucky we get to cook them, my favorite is the Taco one!

Around about 1987 we were on field ops in Korea. There were a lot of locals in the area and their kids. At some point one of the kids found his way over to us while we were eating, the kid was maybe 10 years old and looked hungry. Someone offered him the main course of their MRE, "potted pork product" essentially spam. The kid opened the pouch, took a whiff, made a face and dropped it in place. Never saw him again. Maybe they are better now. I went in right at the changeover between sea rations and MRE's and I have to say I very much prefered the sea rations.
