Woodturning - Big Mouthed Plum !!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- In this video I turn a piece of green/wet Plum into a natural edge vessel. I would normally seal the ends and store a piece like this to dry naturally but thought I would turn this green for a change .. I spun the piece as fast as I thought was safe and used a heat gun in an attempt to dry it. This was a bit of an experiment so I'm expecting a bit of movement and some splitting around the pith which in my opinion adds more character to a piece like this but I understand not everyone will like this.. I finished it with Danish oil and will eventually apply 4 or 5 coats ..

What a treat. No words, no obnoxious music, just real sounds and excellent craftmanship. And, as a bonus, your unbelievable eye for what the wood holds inside. Thank you!
I’m not sure if I’m the only one but I always finds these vids oddly satisfying
That’s why I watch them
You should try turning, it is relaxing watching some form in front of your eyes
These are the best relaxation videos I’ve found so far
Not odd at all.
I wish they were longer. I want to see it all. Even if it’s speed up but I want to see full start to finish.
It is amazing to me how you always manage to choose the perfect "angle" to mount the raw piece of wood, to end up with the incredible wood grain appearance that you get in the finished product that results in yet another beautiful piece of art. Thanks again for sharing.
You can just imagine how smooth that piece feels. I really love the live bark edge you sometimes leave. The patterns in the wood you expose never fail to amaze me. Just lovely.
You know what I think is fascinating about your work: it's not just what you choose to take away. It's what you choose to keep. You + Nature = exquisite.
The little pops of red and green in the wood make it even more spectacular. What a gorgeous piece this turned out to be.
Dude you're like Bob Ross bob villa and Julia child all rolled up together. You inspire me. Thank you
You are an amazing woodturner. I’m impressed. Great wood, great art. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to see you demonstrate how you accomplished your wonderful piece of art. Be well.
Thanks 👍
@@AndyPhillipWoodturning great job understanding that, even if you put it through a translator I'd have no idea what to respond to this.
Andy is one of the very VERY few UA-cam Creators who do not talk, yet the sounds speak volumes! !! !!!
I love the look of plum, amazing grain with nice contrast between the heartwood and sapwood. Then back to dark with that beautiful live edge. You really brought out the beauty in this piece.
Cheers
One week ago I didn't know what to watch until know.
Someone with this much talent deserves respect
Keep doing what your doing
Andy, your artistic vision and your execution of that vision are pure genius. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world at large via your UA-cam channel! PS -- The remaining smidgen of moss is like a precious stone that's been employed to highlight a piece of jewelry.
I love the character of the wood. This is one of my favourites. Watching your videos I’m learning a lot.
Im early, so I want to put this here. You brought lathe work to my life and I love it!
Thanks 👍
Beautiful result and you are a master of the craft. As for me, my glutes puckered nearly all the way through the video from spinning up the original chunk to working deftly around the hollows and into the bowl.
Beautiful, stunning, love the natural edge. Great job. Another amazing piece of art. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Cheers
I think this is the best piece that you have ever created. It is beautiful.
Spectacular work, your empathy for the wood is incredible.
Dear Andy, your lathe is a potters wheel for wood. And like that biblical Potter you extend grace to allow a wound to be turned into a grace of distinctive beauty. The beauty of creation is a pallet for your art and vision. Thank you for sharing your patient process.
Keep up the good work I love your videos so much I can sit here for hours and watch them all especially over and over. Your a boss man🙏🏻
Thanks ..Glad you like them 👍
What a cool piece! I love the way you take an old forgotten piece of wood and you transform it into something beautiful!!!!
Wet and wobbly was what they called me in high school
Weebuls wobble but they don’t fall down?
Oh, I just made this joke, welp guess I gotta delete mine now
Did you steal this from Rhett and link
R A T i do hope you realize this is a very common joke, Rhett and link were far from the first people to say this
Andy's talents are a gift straight from god.
And the colors on this wood, oh my
I'm glad to see you're still excited to create amazing artwork...
May you be healthy and happy always...

@Decker Apollo Happy to help :)
Another stunning piece of art. How you can see into the wood to bring out the hidden beauty is amazing to watch. Thank you.
You turn things into unique art that other people would consider to be waste (before you did your work). I am impressed by every new video you present us. Thank you.
Well that was absolutely wonderful, my word what a beautiful piece, you have a wonderful way of reading the wood, this piece will only improve with age.
The vase is absolutely beautiful. The wood's grain is amazing . How fortunate to own it
I'm always amazed at the range of colors a piece of wood can have. I started watching wood turning because to me it showcases that not often recognized beauty.
My eyes about popped out of my head when you pulled out that heat gun. I had no idea that would work! Woohoo!
Well Andy …you manage to score some nice timber again whatever it is & keep your audience Eggcited…..even this one cracks up😁
Very , very nice piece Andy, I enjoyed watching it. Thank you for sharing, Don
Hi Andy, a lovely piece. I've got a few Damson Tree root-balls still in the garage, which look similar to your plum. They have a lovely purple red heart. I used to use my microwave to dry green turned stuff (low power setting - heat for 40seconds- let cool - repeat many many times.). A few months ago my old freezer packed in so I turned it into a wood kiln, using 40/60/100 watt incandescent bulbs (you can still buy them!). It works brilliantly. Thanks for sharing the video.
Thanks .. I've used the microwave method but this piece wouldn't fit so it was kind of an experiment really to see if it would work ..
Fun project. Thanks. I was glad to see you stand off to the side on first spin.
You and your channel inspired me to add a lathe to my shop. Now the hard part, to find just one log with half the beauty of this one
Beautiful Andy. Those grain colors are so bright and stunning. You made me nervous more than once while hollowing it out. I just knew one of those corners were gonna catch your knuckle OUCH !
Alien egg 🤯🤯🤯.
Goergous piece as usual. It is pleasure to watch you working. Learning a lot in the meantime.
That turned so nicely! Plum is wonderful to work with. You have truly revealed beauty! Well turned, indeed.

I like how you left that little piece of moss on the bark. Absolutely beautiful piece.
this might very well be my favorite piece so far since I started watching , I was so anxious to see you apply the oil, I knew the color would be exceptional & I really love the natural edge, an amazing piece of art again!!!
Thank you
It’s amazing what you find in a chunk of wet and wobbly wood 😮 Brilliant as always Andy 😊
The colors and grain of this piece are unbelievable! Beautiful work!
I admire and marvel at your ability to visualize something in a block of wood and your skill to make it happen. Very cool
Really lovely. Amazing how you can see inside the wood stump to bring out its beauty
If I could give this multiple likes I would. This was beautiful to watch. What an eye. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Beautiful piece Andy - when I grow up I want to be just like you. That will be a while yet as I am only 75 years old!

Hi Y’all, I really need to get myself a Wood Lathe. I love watching you being creative.
I love it when when wet wood gets turned... the curls fly 30 feet away in a beautiful dance in the air.
The colors on this piece are beautiful. You make it look easy.
I’m always enthralled by these videos and it makes me think of my mother who has always been a fan of Thomas Kincaid and how so many others are enamored by such artists as DaVinci. but I want a piece of Phillips art in my home just one would be nice they will be priceless for years to come.
I really enjoyed this turning the grain on this piece is really nice thanks for your video this week and till next time stay safe
Beautiful tulip shape with fantastic grain texture an colot, just perfect.

Hobby turning wood I do would frighten the hell out of me turning a piece like this, apart from shaking my shed to pieces in the progress with the vibration. Love the colours.
