As someone who picked up ultimate newbie collection this black Friday this entire 3 part discussion has been nerve-wracking. Constantly fearful that mistakes were made picking up that much KDM. I loved Oathsworn and Aeon Trespass Odyssey and im looking for something that is less narrative driven so I don't think I have. I will likely be leaving Gamblers on the shelf until I have explored the core game and expansions in some capacity.
KDM is less forced narrative, that is for sure. KDM uses random systems to weave a unique narrative every time! I have made multiple fan expansions based on the natural story telling this game can tell. I have played a fair bit of Aeon Trespass, and is still choose KDM over it. I have yet to play Oathsworn, but that is only because I got it the second Kickstarter and it showed up when GCE did, so I need to play GCE about 4 or 5 more times lol.
@@BraMithra My poor copy of Oathsworn, I was about half way through it when Aeon Trespass landed. I made the mistake of "just learning" ATO. Well four campagins of ATO latter I have no idea what I was doing in Oathsworn.
You can honestly ignore the story bits and just do the numbers if you want. But I think that the ultimate BF pack was an INSANE value.
I had no intention of picking it up but being able to get everything at that discount made me pull the trigger. @@kalebspicer5453

These are hard observations for the majority of players. Especially being alone coming back from a fight.
Aside from that, there are tons of ways in which killing survivors can be a massive cost to a settlement.
The first observation for Dark Impulse 1 to 2 is free 80% of the time, as you gain your tenet before resolving rank 1. Rank 1 has you kill a survivor, so you get the observation. You then want to hunt a level 1 monster (Croc would be best, as you can depart with survivors with no insanity, and croc will eat them while terrified.) with 3 sacrificial lambs, as you do not need to kill everyone, just have 2 survivors left. The neurosis will then trigger, as you are then alone with another survivor. Even better would be to toss a stone to inflict the final wound yourself, trigger the observation on Dark Impulse 2 advancing to 3, then the neurosis trigger while you have Dark Impulse 3, and now you gaining stats. It is very easy to game. Either way, agree, that we are the not best representation of all the ways to play this game.
