Congrats on passing your test! Unfortunately I only got 30 hours of training included with the original course and now I have to talk my non-truck affiliated company into buying more so I can be better prepared for it.
I’m a Transportation Manager with many years of experience as a driver before I moved into the office as a supervisor. This video is by far the best professionally done pre trip inspection I have reviewed. What makes it so valuable is that you obviously have the knowledge to explain each step of the inspection in a clear and understandable format rather than just checking the boxes. It is important that a driver should know the basics of the equipment on his or her Tractor trailer. Thank you for your time and effort making this video!
@@SEMI-Diesel-Chrome You will also be amazed how many examiners will have you start in the cab. As he's mentioned, ask your examiners and follow the direction of how they want you to perform the test.
I watched your last video over and over before my test and passed! I pointed out parts to the inspector I think he didn’t even know 😂 I still go back to it just to review and refresh. Glad to see you back and still in business🙌🏽🤝🏽
Pennsylvania here and you will pass with this video. Other videos talk too fast and don’t go through everything. This guy does. I only been training myself. Yes myself for about a month now. My instructor who has been driving for yrs told me the other day I taught him some things 🤯. Out of 4 of us I was the only one that knew my air break test WITHOUT a truck. I did it in my head. Once I got to class I sat on a couch and taught the class. The instructor was very impressed.
I like that you ask the examiner to put on his seatbelt, then immediately ask him to take it back off to get out and help check lights. Real power play 😂
I just watched the Old video. Now I am gonna watch this one. I am interested in driving, but there's a lot of information and I have ADHD, so thanks for the videos; I learn much better when I am seeing it and hearing the explanations and why it's important. And to be able to watch several times makes it sink in. I feel that this also helps with the anxiety of learning something new and attending school and not being blindsided with an overwhelming amount of knowledge.
Stay strong and sober mija, i once was lost myself, but with God's grace and mercy, im 14yrs sober and the best thing that ever happened to me.i wish the best. Take one day at a time, you can do it!
Thank you so much for these amazing videos! My Emergency Vehicle Operations class loves your videos since there are no thorough under-the-hood instructional videos for pre-ride ambulance checks. These Class A pre-trip guides are good enough for government work :) It's interesting how many similarities there are between your vehicles and many of our ambulances.
I tried watching other people go through the pre trip inspection and skipped through many videos until I found your previous recording! You explain everything very thoroughly and make it very easy for me to remember what to look for and why. Thank you.
Sir,let me just say that you're video has gotten me started on my journey to becoming a truck driver, and I have to say that so far, your instructions have been fantastic. I hope I can gain more from you in the future.

This is an excellent video. I am learning so much. I am trying to get a good foundation so that when I start CDL school 2 1/2 weeks I’m not learning this for the first time. Thank you so much. This is a huge blessing to many people.❤😊
Just wanted to say how helpful your video was, I just got my Class A last Friday I watched the video for the last two weeks or so and even before my test Friday again thanks for posting this for everyone too watch.
So yesterday July 14th I passed my Class B CDL test. Alot what I had to learn came from your two videos. The updated version helped considerably. Thank you for your dedication to helping others.
I just found this guy's video yesterday and I've watched the first one he did like 6 times the same day and I've only watched this once so far as i just found out this video of the up to date exam existed. I'm now taking in depth notes on this video and will be doing the same on the other one. Also I don't have my cdl but I plan on getting it soon, futhermore he does an excellent job at explaining everything I didn't know what some parts looked like just knew the names but I have since been able to identify the parts with the names thanks to him pointing it all out. glad we have people like this still that do care about who's on the road. I'd rather learn all types of systems that they make instead of not knowing. This guy is an excellent mentor. Thank you for taking time out to explain things very thoroughly
Just started the CDL course today. Utah. I was a bit overwhelmed with being told what needs to be remembered for the rest and being able to go back and look at exactly what everything is, I can promise I will be watching this everyday until I have it memorised
This was a beautiful pretrip video! Thank you so much you were so thorough and clear! I will be watching this again and making my own heat sheet to study along with your video.
Thank you for this. I've now compiled a 10 page Word doc based on the three videos I have watch on pre trip. This one helps to pare down from what I have learned so far! Can't wait for my classes to start! Keep Truckin!!
I followed your tutorial and passed both my pre trip and skills test (brilliant video btw, very informative). But when I got to the road test I came up short. Turns out that there are different rules of the road for hazmat than standard (at least according to my examiner). Have a retry this Tuesday but I'm guessing as I couldn't find any info regarding the differences aside from placards, parking and railroad crossings (which I passed btw). Wish me luck and ty for your hard work.
Did you pass after reattempting, and if so, were you able to find out any differences if indeed qualifying with hazmat was a slightly different road test than the standard class a cdl?
@@arynpittaway9790 Yes I passed, thank you for asking. The examiner had set certain parameters regarding things like "safe gap" when stopping and clearance under an unmarked freeway overpass. Excellent videos. Thank You sir, I am studying your videos so that when i get the chance to perform my brake and in-cab inspections Ill be confident that i have been shown the proper ways in what to check and how to do them. New CDL seeker from Antioch, California.

I am a technician at Scania dealer and my check-list is almost identical, but divided as obligatory safety items, reliability (all systems) and resale value (exterior cosmetical dings, dents and scratches). It takes 20 - 60 min to make, depending on the type of truck (off the road, urban, highway). Many drivers only check tires. None check is required in the license test.
I'm new to trucking but I'd put something if that's all right. Excellent presentation - overall and general overview with clear delineation between what is required and what is recommended. That had to be my favorite part. I've been thinking CDL for a long time - having friends and family in the industry helped. What held me back was family and friends who had died in trucking accidents. I am BIG on safety. In only 1 of those accidents was the driver found at fault (which I feel attests to the high quality of the industry). Interested in the necessary, MORE interested in what is SAFEST. I felt like this video directly addressed all of that for this topic. Memory aids, like acronyms, are great. That helped me a lot. Repeat, highlight, summarize - excellent teaching technique. Works great for me as a learner. Calm, direct demeanor. This helped me to feel closer to being in person rather than watching a video. Not at all demeaning or condescending. Interesting to see how things are different I live here in Virginia and just got my CDL we still use the system where you could get the different types of pre-trip and not just having to do the whole truck After watching further into the video everything is different from how I tested
Jeff, the old and the new videos are going to help me and my son take the Regular License Class A which is a non-CDL but has all the CDL Driver / Road tests. We will be driving a Super C RV built on a Freightliner Chassis with a Cummins engine that is 35,400 lbs and because of the RV weight we are required by law to have the special license. This is helpful because I am not finding many RV resources to teach the details in these two videos. There are RV schools that teach driving an RV but not the written and pre-trip parts of the testing. Thanks again.
This is the only resource you really need to pass the pre-trip. I've recently finished CDL school thru a community college course, and the instructors were mushmouths who never fully explained things in a sequence without skipping parts and getting interrupted by the 13! students in my class. I'm sure the quality of training at Apex is a lot higher than I received. Use this outside of your class time to study the pre-trip, and spend your effort during class on your hands-on backing maneuvers and driving. Just be sure to know where all the controls on your testing truck are and if the truck has any quirks. For instance, on our training truck, the parking valves don't pop out all the way when the air is low. This could spell failure for you if you don't know about it ahead of time.
I watch the old video at least fifty times And I never got my cdl. But im officially in class March 18th and watching the new one now and going to watch it at least 50 times before class starts
your right turn signal sounded fast. I assume there WAS a light out somewhere. GREAT video though. I just passed my written exams, and now I have 3 weeks of yard training then I'll be a full-on trucker. lol. Thanks for the awesome video.
Yes sir, I do believe I complained about the wind on the last video which shame on me because you really got me through it on the last video. Alright enough shaming me, your first video (as I said) Completely helped me. On another note, ALL examiners are a little different but keep in mind in general know your truck. My examiner pointed out details that I didn’t cover however, the examiner pointed it out and was just seeing if I can point out what I missed.
Fantastic video, but I would like to add a few things. Now, I took my CDL test in Texas so the first two points could be state-specific, but it's better to be safe than sorry when you're trying out for a whole career and it certainly can't hurt you to implement them, so why not? Give yourself the best odds! - When listening for odd or suspicious noise(s) through your window(s) during your in-cab inspection or you just happen to have your window(s) open during any of the other test portions (road test, backing), be sure not to let any part of you hang out of the window. This can be seen as a safety issue. Personally, I just lowered the windows a few inches to prevent the possibility of that occurring while still having the benefit of hearing any noises should they happen. - When doing your in-cab air pressure checks, do not touch the parking break valves during the emergency brake function test (seeing that they pop out on their own between 20-45 PSI). I was told by my instructors that they have personally seen students fail because the test examiner considered the possibility that the student may have pulled the valves out either intentionally or by accident rather than the valves popping out themselves. - When placing your wheel chocks for the air pressure test or really anytime you place them (roadside issues and the like), a good trick is to place them at either end of a steer tire rather than using your drive tires. If the truck rolls and settles on one of them, it can take some persuading to dislodge it from beneath the tire with some good heel-kicks or a hammer. If you place the chocks on the steer tires though, you can simply turn the steering wheel side-to-side a few times to push them both loose. No hammer or heel-kicks needed! Good luck everybody!
A couple of questions... 1. Why would they testing want you to do a tug test/ in cab test first, without checking the king pin/ trailer connections/ locking pin/ ect? That seems like a bad idea. 2. Also, on the brake test, why don't they test the compressor strength (50 to 99 psi) in 3 mins or less? 3. Should not the brake peddle also be pressed during the brake leak test?
I'm out in West Texas I've been to the DMV twice for my driving test both times I've been knocked back but they will not tell me why or what I've missed. I've studied the guide they give you and I've been watching this video like my kids watch the same movie on repeat. I'm at my last attempt and I am at an impasse I need help.
Hi, i hope you read this . This is got to be the best video out there, very professional and to the point. Thank you so much. I passed my test few months ago. I have my license. My question, once I apply to a company and go for orientation, am i gonna have to do an EXTENSIVE pre-trip inspection again ? or it doesn't need to be so thorough --i live in California ( don't know if its different here) Lastly , at my school we learned on a stick shift truck. I've never driven an automatic, I'm not shure about putting truck in neutral, low speeds, high speeds ,etc. ....if the company only has automatics, would that discualify me? Again , awesome video! Thank You So Much. 👍👍👍

By "new testing model" do you mean the ELDT program? So if the state has ELDT requirements now then it's on the new model? Also... @9:48 the right turn signal is not correctly functioning...one of the lights is out, you can see the indicator blinking faster and yet front and rear passed :p
I noticed during the new pre trip law you didn’t mention anything about air break parts like.. slack adjuster, push rod, air chamber etc.. so non of this is on the pre trip now? I will be going to school to take my CDL in the near future and Illinois I act like I know what I’m talking about but that is come along with a lot of research and watching videos of pre-trips in the past I will find out if Illinois did adopt the new pre-trip law, it definitely seems a lot easier to pass. I’m really surprised they don’t require you to check the rear bumper DOT tape or some of the other previous free trip modules.
In GA you have to mention everything with the right verbiage. even if you don’t use the right verbiage, they will fail you. Good luck on test! Also in UA-cam you can search GA DDS CDL test that way you can see how they do it!
Hi, I passed my cdl last week thanks to your videos keep up the good work and good luck to everybody studying to get the cdl.

Just be sure to know where all the controls on your testing truck are and if the truck has any quirks. For instance, on our training truck, the parking valves don't pop out all the way when the air is low. This could spell failure for you if you don't know about it ahead of time.
I m from Canada 🇨🇦 but really helpful tips and training, thanks man .
I watch the old video at least fifty times And I never got my cdl. But im officially in class March 18th and watching the new one now and going to watch it at least 50 times before class starts
How could you not pass after watching over 50 times??? Should only need to watch 10-15 times.
I like the way you describe the pre trip i think you have done a great job thank you
Thank you ..nice Show example.. i dont speak a lot english but i can understand a lot.. God Bless you
your right turn signal sounded fast.
Great video!
Microtech. A man with class.
Hey,thanks man. More people need to see this.
Thanks this video helped me pass my road test today
love the video.... soooo are we not looking at the slack ajustment any more? Like that was a big thing not a couple of years ago
Fantastic. Thank you
A couple of questions...
Also, if you have the time, would you mind showing us how to fill out a log book Properly
I want to thank you for your time and video it was very helpful for me
The best thank you for your time and help you rock bro
Thank you so much for this video explains a lot of information study to get my CDL
Do you happen to know if texas has the updated model?
Not yet. I passed mine about a month ago, and they still use the old model, aka everything.
@@betterdeadthanred839 ok. Well turns out I’ll be testing in Springfield MO. With Prime So im not sure about there either lmao.
Getting ready to upgrade to A - super helpful!
Great knowledge, thank you so much for making this video.
Hi, i hope you read this .
This is got to be the best video out there, very professional and to the point.
Thank you so much.
I passed my test few months ago. I have my license.
My question, once I apply to a company and go for orientation, am i gonna have to do an EXTENSIVE pre-trip inspection again ? or it doesn't need to be so thorough --i live in California ( don't know if its different here)
Lastly , at my school we learned on a stick shift truck.
I've never driven an automatic, I'm not shure about putting truck in neutral, low speeds, high speeds ,etc.
....if the company only has automatics, would that discualify me?
Again , awesome video! Thank You So Much. 👍👍👍
I start in November watching this video everyday 😆

What's the 3 piece steering system? Reference video @ 27 minutes. Is it the pitman arm, drag link, and steering arm? TIA
Yes, you are not required on the test to name the parts individually though
By "new testing model" do you mean the ELDT program? So if the state has ELDT requirements now then it's on the new model?
Also... @9:48 the right turn signal is not correctly functioning...one of the lights is out, you can see the indicator blinking faster and yet front and rear passed :p
It is a new format for testing, instead of form A B C, it is now the whole truck minus the drive axles.
Yeah, bad bulb on right.
Thanks for video it's clear and helpful
I noticed during the new pre trip law you didn’t mention anything about air break parts like.. slack adjuster, push rod, air chamber etc.. so non of this is on the pre trip now? I will be going to school to take my CDL in the near future and Illinois I act like I know what I’m talking about but that is come along with a lot of research and watching videos of pre-trips in the past I will find out if Illinois did adopt the new pre-trip law, it definitely seems a lot easier to pass. I’m really surprised they don’t require you to check the rear bumper DOT tape or some of the other previous free trip modules.
This is correct. If your state is using the new 2022 test model, those things are not included.
In GA you have to mention everything with the right verbiage. even if you don’t use the right verbiage, they will fail you.
Good luck on test!
Also in UA-cam you can search GA DDS CDL test that way you can see how they do it!
Thank You! What are the 67 checklist to pass the test?
The first 30 minutes was just like getting my Class B’s I’m feeling confident about my A’s
Im going to watch this 100 times this week. But i think i have it down now
Thank you so much for you the best video for ever.
🙏
