Thor 2 was bad and very un-watchable, as were Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3. They were just uninteresting and I found myself admiring the decoration in the cinema rather than watching the film.

      What is it, with people confusing popular pop culture fanboy stuff with nerdism. I dont see a D20 there, not even a D8. At least there should be a picture of the NCC 1701.
      Real Nerds got their name ripped of and glued on to something socially accaptable. It's like the Borg got it. It is now part of it and not itself anymore.
      And even though I too like the popcultural stuff (seeing Star Wars tomorrow ... again) I say:
      Power to the socially awkward.
      Power to the meticulously factual.
      Power to the people who play boardgames a lot more than adults are accepted to do.
      Power to the people who could build you a real Enterprise, but can't use a screwdriver...or a hammer.
      Power to the real nerds.
      *mic drop*

      +Julian S. To be fair, not all nerds play DnD. I think there should be a distinction between nerd and geek. I think a geek is more the traditional gamer, DnDer, computer-savvy, antisocialite. Whereas a nerd is just someone that gets SUPER into something like comic books, or board games, or even something like science or art. I personally align with the latter, but I think I'm one DnD game away from getting a D20 tshirt and changing my name to Link.

    I bet when he mentioned that he was hostile against a certain contingent of UA-cam critics he was referring to RedLetterMedia. The difference between RLM and ScreenJunkies is that you can tell that the ScreenJunkies have an obsessive, effusive, DEEP love of movies. You can tell that they're deriving real joy from the experience even when they're talking about watching bad movies. Whereas I'm not entirely sure most of the time if the guys from RLM even like movies all that much.

    • @sarasmedberg8203
      @sarasmedberg8203 9 років тому +37

      j Hughes RLM adores movies, they're just tired of seeing the same movies over and over these days with basically no originality to them at all. They have explained it a lot of times, it just tends to get lost among the sarcasm they cover their videos with. They only bash movies that deserves it and they have also said they're not too crazy with this whole Comic thing going on.

    • @jph4889
      @jph4889 9 років тому +3

      So, why don't they just review more under-the-radar unconventional films? There's no shortage of excellent filmmaking out there. They just always choose to go see big, Hollywood tentpole films and to take this tone where they're exasperated with those kinds of films. Where's there Blue Ruin review? Or Only Lovers Left Alive? Or The One I Love, or Under the Skin?
      You know who puts his money where his mouth is? YourMovieSucks. That guy watches almost everything that comes out, and makes whole videos celebrating movies he loves.
      RLM's bread is buttered by hating movies. It's their brand.

    • @sarasmedberg8203
      @sarasmedberg8203 9 років тому +17

      Do you actually watch RLM? Jay talks about indie movies quite a lot, its just that people want to see reviews of popular Hollywood movies so thats what they get. They reference under the radar movies and discuss them in their catch up videos. RLM loves movies well made and hates movies that are dumb or missed the point. Every reviwer has a style and yourmoviesucks watches and has based his reviews on the way RLM does it. Theres nothing wrong with keeping it Hollywood and calling out Hollywood on their BS movies coming out.

    • @jph4889
      @jph4889 9 років тому

      >Do you actually watch RLM?
      Do you actually want me to count the ratio of big Hollywood films to smaller indie films? Because I'll do that and you'll be wrong.
      >Jay talks about indie movies quite a lot, its just that people want to see reviews of popular Hollywood movies so thats what they get.
      They almost NEVER review indie movies. They're often afterthoughts piled into videos in which they briefly discuss them. Their insistence on watching movies that they hate is what makes their tone insufferable. Its their own fault.
      >Every reviwer has a style and yourmoviesucks watches and has based his reviews on the way RLM does it.
      YMS releases whole multipart videos celebrating in minute detail the great aspects of good movies. He's in the middle of a multipart series on how awesome Synechdoche, NY is. That's because he actually loves movies.
      >Theres nothing wrong with keeping it Hollywood and calling out Hollywood on their BS movies coming out.
      Except that it makes for tedious boring viewing after a while.

    • @j.kwiatkowski6682
      @j.kwiatkowski6682 9 років тому +11

      You're telling me that RLM hates movies? You know, the guys who made the Plinkett reviews? The guys who loved the original trilogy so much and was so heartbroken by the prequels that they made one of the most famous, well received video reviews ever? The guys who reference several other smaller films as examples to show how bad some other movies are? The guys who do movie catch ups on Half in the Bag covering all of the independent films they watched that year?
      Yes, they're sarcastic. But don't mistake them for "hating movies". You don't give them enough credit.

Yeah the mandarin twist was really fucking stupid but had comedy, action, Iron man (sometimes), a nice story, Tony Stark etc. Thor 1 and 2 are good. The people that were making the movie did have a really difficult job because Thor is like the least relatable character and a character at the time only nerds knew.

That's not so fun.

      Alex Dalton picking every tiny detail and flaw in something and going over and over it isn't considered funny in the most parts of the world as far as I can say. Sure they bring things up that lots of us already saw or thought about bur still. It is like a big nitpicking that stretches for about 10 minutes rather than a funny ''it looks like they XY'' parody in a few.
      Still I consider the cinemasins guys almost as funny as the honest crew, but I really get it when the creators of those films aren't.

    Loki's plan wasn't all THAT bad in Avengers...... a lot happened that he couldn't possibly have predicted.
    A- Turn Hawkeye - probably couldn't have predicted that a mere woman would be able to best him and definitely couldn't predict that a simple blow to the head would turn him back.
    B- Get captured by SHIELD and have the scepter turn them against each other - which actually happened during that scene where they're all fighting, could have gotten way more serious if Black Widow hadn't found out what his plan was for the Hulk, then again he probably didn't expect that a woman would be smart enough to figure that out
    C- Turn the Hulk - which he did, except that he couldn't predict that the Hulk would throw himself off the helicarrier before having time to damage almost anything
    D- Get rid of Thor - which he did, impossible to predict that Thor could break through that amazingly strong glass before it hit the Earth, which he barely managed to do anyway
    E- Turning Stark - how the heck could he know that that wouldn't work....
    F- Alien invasion - even with all the other parts of his plan gone wrong, the ONLY way they managed to stop them was because they managed to group back together, and let's face it, if his plan had really gone the way it was supposed to, Hawkeye would be out of the picture, BW would be as well (since he planned to have Hawkeye kill her), Hulk would be all bad and probably have destroyed the entire helicarrier and most of SHIELD, probably even some of the Avengers, and Thor would have crash-landed and probably died somewhere.... so yeah, it's not that bad a plan. He was just really unlucky in that EVERYTHING that could possibly have gone wrong, did.

    • @Jpicc89
      @Jpicc89 9 років тому +1

      Maggy Wing Actually, his plan was never to destroy them, just...divide them. If some happened to die in the process, cool, but it wasn't the ultimate goal. Loki knows his best strength is his mind, so he played to that strength to trick them all and make them hostile towards each other. They only won because they came together in the end. His plans were meant to make them a non-threat by making them unable to fight together. and THAT plan was succeeding just fine, UNTIL he killed Coulson. He couldn't predict that his death, the death of just another mere human, could be the unexpected catalyst for half the team.

    • @MsMaggyW
      @MsMaggyW 9 років тому

      Jpicc89 I agree, Coulson was his only mistake. And I know his plan was to divide them. The scepter helped with that, turning Hawkeye and Stark would have helped, getting rid of Thor and making Banner turn into the Hulk.... but like Stark said to Cap, he also knew he had to go through them before he could rule, so obviously he hoped they would kill each other off in the process.

    • @Jpicc89
      @Jpicc89 9 років тому

      Go through them can be interpreted in a couple ways. My personal interpretation isn't so much kill them (though like I said, if they die, while not the goal, that's cool) but DEFEAT them. Ruin them. Knock them down a peg. The classic archetype of the honorable warrior who meets death with head held high is a prime example of a person who may have lost, but was not defeated (Like Leonidas in 300). Loki didn't just need to win. He needed to DEFEAT them. Break them. Show they were not as high and mighty as they were thought to be. This is best exemplified when Stark, right before heading for New York, is talking to Cap about exactly all this concerning Loki, and it shifts back and forth to Thor, who is standing there over Mjolnir uncertain of himself. It's THAT uncertainty, that if it overcame him, would mean Loki defeated him, rather than just beat him. But Thor overcomes, and picks up Mjolnir ready to fight. Tony and Cap, urged by Coulson's death, move to fight. Natasha and Barton, fueled by revenge, move to fight. And Bruce, moved by the simple words of a sincere old man, moves to fight.
      In the end, Loki's true undoing, beyond any one act, even Coulson's death, was underestimating the resolve of those he hoped to defeat.

    • @MsMaggyW
      @MsMaggyW 9 років тому

      Jpicc89 He wanted to turn them against each other, divide and conquer, yeah. But why do you think he turned Hawkeye and sent him on that helicarrier? Why do you think he wanted to unleash the Hulk on everybody? Why do you think he tried to turn Iron Man and get all the Avengers to attack him? And why do you think he threw Thor out the helicarrier? I don't think it was just to bring them down a peg the way you say, he had to be hoping there would be casualties. He admitted as much to Black Widow, and to Thor before he tossed him out.
      But my point is, everybody is always criticising his plan, but it was very sound. Divide and conquer is a classic, like Stark said. Nobody could have expected all those things to go so wrong.

    • @Jpicc89
      @Jpicc89 9 років тому

      Maggy Wing
      Well, I certainly don't criticize his plan.
      But to your questions.
      He turned Hawkeye because he was useful, and to sow dissent.
      How do we know he wanted to unleash the Hulk on them? That's just what Natasha got from him. Everyone assumes she played him to get that info, but what if HE played HER playing HIM to make her THINK that was what he wanted, so she would immediately run off and drive a wedge between Banner and the rest of the team, like she did? Notice that until she came in and started talking to Banner, he was kind of just on the sidelines of the discussion.
      He tried to turn Iron Man because at that point, Iron Man was just a nuisance, as the plan was in the final stage. Loki thought them scattered, and Tony said "nope, they're on their way here." So he tried to turn him. It wasn't part of the plan, he was reacting to a change of events.
      Thor he MAY have been trying to kill, but I don't think he cared if he died either way. He struck a chord with him already, and more than likely, trapping him in the cell and dropping him was just a way to get him out of the picture as on a PERSONAL level I believe he considered Thor the biggest threat to his plan, and he of course still held a grudge.
