- Today, I went to Hobby Lobby to investigate a rumor that Hobby Lobby is scamming people, and I didn't want to believe it - but it is true!!! This was a SHOCKING discovery!!
I could not believe it, but yes, there are different prices ON THE SAME ITEMS at Hobby Lobby.
But I didn't let that stop me from shopping, I was just very careful and picked up the item with the lowest price. I even found this happens on the clearance items, too - so just check the price tags and shop smart. Right now they have a lot of items marked down 75% and I did find some really great deals.
You need to check out your own Hobby Lobby and see if this is true in your store, too. Also, look at the clearance section!

Guys, the reason that Hobby Lobby has different prices on the same item is because they do not mark up items that are in store when the new ones come in at a higher price. Due to inflation. So if you find different prices that is the reason. If you need all the items on the peg, they will sale it to you at the lower price.
It's possible that they were different lots purchased by their buyers one earlier and the higher one purchased when their wholesaler raised their prices
I used to work at Walmart many years ago and yes you are correct. This is what happens when you have old stock and new stock coming in, when the vendor raises the price. Of course the price of the new stock will be higher, it's called inflation. Hobby lobby is not scamming anybody. As the market prices fluctuate so will their stock, and it really makes no sense to put the new stock someplace else in the store until the old stock sells. This is just how it works, especially in a market that is so up and down right now.
You are correct. In this case, that is exactly what happened. I buy certain items often and when I can't get to a Hobby Lobby I will order online and always when the item is on 50% off sale. Here's the weird part-one item now has a sticker that is substantially higher than in the store, yet still rings up at 50% off the store price. It's a glass jar. Store price $3.99 ($1.98 on sale) online tag reads $5.99 ($2.98 on sale). Eventually the store tags make it up to the higher price, but it has taken as much as a year. I truly believe this is because HL orders their items pre-labeled with their own tags from their vendors. When the price from the vendor goes up, HL doesn't go through the very costly process of relabelling their existing inventory. They just wait until the old is exhausted and replaced by the newly priced items. No scam, just economics. Buy the ones that are less expensive and feel good that you still got it at the cheaper price and walk away thinking that not everything is a scam.
Having worked in retail, years ago, we always had to check items as they came in … price increases do happen. Sounds like people aren’t doing this.
Did you take items to the cash and see what they would ring up at? Would be interesting to see if the item was ringing up at the old or the new price.
People make mistakes. I don’t think they are scamming anyone on purpose. And if no one points out the discrepancies, the problem will never get addressed.
I have seen this happen in many stores ( Walmart is another one) The big box stores have so many employees, some of which don’t get trained properly or just don’t care.
It tends to happen less in smaller, family owned businesses.
As consumers, we need to watch as items are scanned. And politely point out errors if there are any.
I have found that hobby lobby when there's a price increase they leave items with the old prices until they're gone. I guess they could've gone back and mark up the old items too. It doesn't really bother me because their price increases usually are reasonable anyway.

Yup, I bought a framed and matted B&W photo and got a great deal with it being on the 50% off sale as well. I went back to look again later and they had raised the base price for the exact same item!! I thought I was imagining the price I got it for at first because it didn't add up to the one it would be on my 2nd trip.
New CEO is definitely ruining the company. Don't even get me started the increased amount of prefabricated items for sell!!!! Less hobby in Hobby Lobby stores nowadays. Really sad. I used to get lost in that store for HOURS dreaming up the creative hobbies/crafts I could do. Just one more way our country is focused on consumerism over quality. 😢

Well the reason is some are left from last year, and new products come in with a new prices stuck right on them. It’s because they don’t have bar codes on them. I don’t know how they take a loss.. because Inventory control must be crazy

Watch when you purchase things at a grocery store. If item is up front or near to a companion item, the prices are sometimes higher. For instance, let’s say you run in to get bread, there’s a small shelf or peanut butter and jam. I’ll almost guarantee one of those items is marked less expensive in its own isle. Just saying. I once ran in to get dish soap pods, and picked them up in an off shelf area, but had to go to the soap isle for something else, the item was about $6 less. Same brand same amount same packaging.
I was explained that the difference in price for the very same item is because an item may have been priced at one price, but later on they purchased more of the same item but the price was higher than the current price so they had to label the item at a higher price than the current ones previously purchased. Unfortunately, inflation is driving the price of everything.
Please forgive me but that is FALSE. Inflation is NOT the reason that prices are higher, it is plain and simple CORPORATE GREED.

I scrapbook and noticed way back that a lot of stickers had different amounts on them with same year date on back. I looked at five identical scrapbook albums and all. But one had a different price. I’m talking from 18.99 to 29.99. And online it was another price. So yes the pricing has got a lot crazier since I initially noticed.
I have also been overcharged at Dollar General many times, too many times!!!!
Walmart does the same! Same item on 2 different shelves with the same price.

Thank you for sharing. I won't do TikTok so issues shared on YT are greatly appreciated. Even if these are older inventory vs newer inventory, they need to make it right. Picka price and redo the other items the same price. If this keeps up, they will lose lots of customers. Joanns filed bankruptcy, wonder if they are just trying to offload because they are going down too. Just a thought. Don't want to start any rumors.

Its obviously an oversight..prices are rising so its the difference in old stock and new stock. Christian based or not, they are a business and if they are purposely scamming people it would be detrimental to their customer base.

The reason there are different prices at Hobby Lobby as they do not I repeat do not mark up the old stock to match the new price that's coming in. Of course the new prices are more for the same item. They are not ripping anyone off they are giving us a chance to buy it at the reduced cost as it came in at the time it was produced into the store. If you buy an item that was later put on the Shelf it will have a higher price as does milk bread or anything else. But hobby Lobby does not mark up their existing prices to meet the new price as it's coming in. They are giving us the customers a Break by not doing that. Many other stores do mark it up to match the new price

I was very glad I caught this video. Everything is so expensive & as a crafter, I need to be able to get the best deals.
It is bad enough because of the El Facho Funk of 2019 and every single thing and business had been price gauging ever since and the government doesn’t seem to care about the middle man any more.
I have been hearing stories too about Dollar General stores and the price points are not the same when rang up at the register and if you go back the next week, nothing has changed.
So, one way or another it seems like we have to actively watch our prices, like we don’t have enough to do in the day as it is.

I stopped shopping at HL a long time ago. Don't like the company's politics!!! There are too many different shoppers for them to wear there politics on their sleeve so to speak. Their policy on no Sun. Hours also ticks me off. I could do without their " holier than thou" policy. Won't go anymore don't care if things are on sale or not!

Actually, it is illegal under anti-trust laws and "bait and switch" pricing games that car lots play. But to report it, someone has to call the local cops and stand around and wait while the cops investigate and most local cops, with very little legal education, won't "get it." It's a Federal Trade Commission issue and unfortunately, they don't have enough employees to cover such as this... even though being ripped off is a primary concern for Americans in all 50 states + all our territories.
It’s greed not inflation. Look up how much their profit was last year and first quarter this year.
