Watching Bruce's "game face" is endlessly entertaining
+lewis white Intense!!
+lewis white Can I marry his eyebrows?
+BRUCE QUEEN hahahahaha
+lewis white He looks like he's taking a massive shit, and I can't listen to what anyone is speaking about because I can't look away from his face.
Lee Bradley This one was what I was thinking but some people took it a little weird. I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU QUEEN CHILDBIRTH
I think I understand what James is saying - what's the point of waiting 10 or 15 or 20 years for a movie if they just gonna copy the old ones, take a risk because we are waiting for a very long time for Star Wars and we don't want to see a remastered version, we want new, we want the universe to unveil.
SW fans had a sequel, the Thrawn Trilogy, I wonder why they're quite mad about the new movie, oh yes, bitching is a one strong and casual word for a fandom.
+Floyd “Money” Mayweather That escalated quickly.
Valber Paradox would you?
+DeithWX But what if it was kind of like a refresh. To put people back in the track. Since it took 10 years to make episode 7, they needed to put people back into the hype train. I think that episode 8 is gonna be better and will be more ''full'' and we'll get more info.
+DeithWX LOL Lucas took a risk on the sequels. Look at what the fans are calling him till today.
The prequels were very enjoyable... excluding the padme anakin love ark and jar jar fart jokes...
nothing on the originals, but I would never say they were bad movies, I would say they were good, not amazing.
Totally agree with you
+Stalli111 But some parts were really cheesy, almost cringeworthy.
PAXperMortem I guess haha. But I still enjoyed them when I watched them originally.
you forgot acting and dialogue
+Stalli111 There are a ton of plot holes in the prequels the OT didn't have, but the OT was flawed in its own way too, namely 2 main characters not played by white males.
The more I learn about Funhaus, the more I love you guys. And your group love for Star Wars is my favorite thing about you.
I've never been interested in Star Wars, but the porn parody was pretty good.
+Trevor Philips link
Same for... research purposes...
Just Google it guys, it's the internet - it won't be that hard to find. FYI Chewbacca's threeway scene is a real doozie.
+Trevor Philips Thanks Trevor
+Trevor Philips which one:
The phantom penis
THe bone wars
Revenge of the Dick
A New Pipe
THe empire cums back
Return of the twat?
Lol I ran out of on the spot ideas
This is really interesting to watch 2 years later, after the release of episode VIII.
Evan Tessler Yeah, and how most of the theory crafting is entirely irrelevant because of how the film abandoned most of what was set up in 7 :/
And interesting NOW, after the finale of the sequel trilogy and the saga as a whole
This comment is interesting to read and look back and remember how good life used to be in 2018.
@@theman2345567 life is still great
Bruce looks so angry while playing! 😛
Ahhh the good old days when we still had hope for the new franchise not anymore
I feel like they could've done something different than another "blow up the big space weapon". I mean the very first scene almost mirrors A New Hope exactly and the rest of the movie has a lot of Star Wars tropes. Good movie but it felt like it was lacking substance.
+TeddyPicker191 James is absolutely right. The biggest problem in The Force Awakens is repetition of the earlier movies. Again, good movie, but it definitely has some warranted criticism.
+TeddyPicker191 I think this was done on purpose. The director purposefully disposed of all the older tropes from previous star wars movie (IE world-destroying cannons). They've done a trope/lore purge so to speak, so now they're open to do go their own way.
That’s a thought, not a feeling.
I want a redemption story for Kylo Ren. People complain "Aghhh he killed Han Solo, he's not worthy of redemption."
Vader, if we look at his entire story, despite how shitty it was, he was redeemed. He killed innocent children. He almost killed Han Solo, and wiped out everyone who failed him! AND HE GOT REDEEMED!
I want Kylo Ren to be redeemed because it would make sense. I think it could be another perfect redemption story like Zuko in Avatar the last airbender!
Kyro Ren is not dead, remember that his emperor told the general "It's time to finish his training"
He will return with full power next movie
Not sure I'd say Vader was redeemed.. But he did one last good deed/turned to the light at the end.
ArchieGamez I didn't say Kylo Ren is dead...
to be fair Han killed himself. So. Yeah.
Robert Fella ok, maybe her mother will forgive him?
As the empire fell. What was left ran to Jakku, the entire rebel alliance converged on Jakku, and a massive battle happened with hundreds of thousands dead.
It was also their weapons facility

I LOVE Lawrence's explanation of the new references to the force as a universal concept. It explains how some people can have the light (Like Finn) without being Jedi (who have both the force and the light).
The Prequel movies were fucking awful, but they did have a lot of core lore points.
They tried but they indeed, suck ass.
I'm sorry but I just seriously can't belive stuff like this, "fuckin awful", I mean, like home alone 4 awful?! cos they just aren't.
+David Kelly Plots are OK but the choice of actors and addition of unnecessary characters (jarjar) ruined it for some people. I saw the prequels first so imo they arnt as bad as people try to make them seem
core lore the best lore
I love the prequels because of the lore!!! Episode 7 just completely trashed all existing lore
There were a lot of good theories here, too bad we got a Vegas world and a tossed in Emperor return.
People wanted the original Star Wars back and that's what they got with Ep7. Yet everyone, including myself complains it was too similar to A New Hope. Taking a step back and looking at the situation, they gave us what we wanted and we're criticizing them for it.
I'd hate to be in Abrams' position. Even though people still liked the film that single critique would drive me nuts because I thought that's what everyone wanted.
People wanted the style and originality back, not a scene for scene recreation.
bandwagon240 more like it followed certain plot points. wasn't really scene for scene.
Certain plot points? It's the Force Recycled. No original ideas.
Rogue Storm Trooper is orignal. But then you could argue it was kind of the same when Luke dressed as one to rescue Leia. Finn helping Poe.
+bandwagon240 All the new characters weren't original ideas?
People always try and find something they don't like. When I watched it I just sat back and let myself enjoy the movie and you know what I actually did enjoy it. As well as everyone I've talked to. Obviously every movie has plot holes and such but in the end isn't a movie good if you sit through the whole thing and feel immersed the whole time and come out wanting to see it again!
The Force Awakens is a fantastic movie and it deserves all of the praise it can get. But it felt too safe and too familiar. I'd have liked it if they took some more risks with it but I'm extremely happy with the way it turned out.
That's exactly how I felt. Disney, like their Marvel movies, made it too formulaic and copied the plot of the fourth movie too much, but that doesn't mean it was a bad movie I enjoyed it a whole lot
+Liam Hillman If they gonna start off a new trilogy, better to start off on the safe side than risk something that can completely ruining another go at seeing new star wars movies
+Keith Gasho But still it's enjoyable anyways, there's a lot of previous star wars references which is awesome.
I still think Rey's got to be Luke's. To me, the main movies are about the Skywalkers, and while you could argue Kylo represents the new "Skywalker"... I think having Rey be an offspring of Luke explains her incredible force abilities. Great Podcast by the way! You guys should do "Spoilercasts" more often.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Make the sith win for once.
i tried watching it, but i fell asleep in the movie theaters....whats funny though, is that i woke up with my pants down and a sore ass.
+Aaron Chavez Lando Calrissian struck again!
+Aaron Chavez At least it wasn't Indy this time.
I was actually disappointed, I don't think it lived up to its hype :(
Your own fault. Go in expecting too much and you'll only disappoint yourself.
+TheAzRage I went in expecting dissapointment, I went out hyped for star wars 8. I hope it delivers.
+TheAzRage I went in excpecting disappointment. I came out slightly less salty than I was going in, the explosions were super good, rey was a cringey character.
+MercuriallyStatic hahahahaha oh how I wish I could say that to all the people that slate the prequels
+Luke Lewis There is no such thing as originality. Only reinvention. You could say Star Wars was ripped off John Carter, which was a book from the very early twentieth century.
Bruce's face playing Battlefront is priceless
Clear answer on how to fix/improve is to bring back fan favourite, Jar Jar
Bruce looks SOOO intense when he plays, particularly at the beginning when he was Luke. And it's great.
I absolutely LOVE the story in the prequels (Excluding the Padme/Anakin love ark). It's the support that the original trilogy needed in my opinion. HOWEVER, the films are completely drawn down by horrible directing and writing. They could have been amazing films, and have amazing elements even with the issues. The issue is just the execution in its key moments, sadly.
Same. Good story, and there were some pretty good scenes (order 66, "you were my brother Anakin") but those were drowned out by the Senate meetings and nute gunray.
Good idea, poor execution.
thank you. Someone reasonable.
'Lost Stars' is the story of two kids growing up together admiring the Empire, but one of them joins the rebellion. The story builds up to the battle of Jakku and explains the downed destroyer. Its a really good book if you guys are interested.
Also a few other things you guys mentioned. The hallway Rey is standing in during the flashback is the hallway leading to the room where Vader fights Luke during Empire. We see it briefly in the film when Luke is trying to hide form Vader.
Also in TFA Kylo loses his Helmet/Mask as he leaves it on the bridge where he killed Han. So i'm hoping he builds a new one from Vaders original which is still on finalizer destroyer. If you didn't know, the powder he keeps the helmet in is Vaders ashes.
I understand all of their criticisms but is it wrong of me to say, yeah there is flaws with Episode 7, but I fucking love Star Wars?
+seop65 Absolutely not and that's what I feel as well. There are many things that I love that have flaws to them, because everything has flaws. There are tons of people trashing on not only the movie but also the people who enjoy the movie because they believe it had major flaws. That's just not right.
MegaTyler93 Its just like hey, I love Star Wars and seeing people just be so critical of LITERALLY EVERYTHING, its like I just wanna watch Star Wars and leave with a smile
***** It's one of those things that, if you don't plan on getting into the minutia of the lore and series, it just means you should probably step back from social media and just try to ignore opinions on the movie until you see it and form your own opinion on it.
I feel the same way with 7 as well
Well the point of being cynical and critical of absolutely everything is to gather attention. There were several years after the AVGN where critics sprouted from the ground like weeds. It made for a terrible time to like anything because people acted like they were clever and the only people who could be correct because they dislike something. That sentiment still exists. People can just say dumb things like "This product has obvious flaws, so if you like it you are a sheep and the reason X industry is getting so bad". None of these people ever consider that every single piece of media anywhere has flaws. Humans are flawed, nothing is perfect. People like or dislike things based on personal preference. Even when MOST people hate something (like Pixels) some people will still likely enjoy it do to the subjective nature of opinions. However sections of the internet need to shit on things because that's how they make their money and get their slice of internet attention. However being so negative towards beloved properties must be exhausting. If you go into a movie looking for flaws you will have a bad time because seeing a film scouring for flaws isn't fun (for most people). It tends to make you look like someone who is trying to rain on A LOT of peoples parades. I've been over the age of internet cynicism for about 6 years now. It's much more relaxing and fulfilling to take in media and enjoy it how you want to enjoy it rather than watch some bitter people talk about how they know the secret on how to make that piece of media good. However, they fail to realize if their vision was the one presented to the masses it would still have flaws and there would be another group of bitter people talking about how they would fix it and why it's crap.
I really didn't want this podcast to end. Nice job gentlemen. My ears were left wanting more.
Oh god here we go. Bring out all the nerds with their opinions and "why you're wrong and I'm right bullshit"
I'm so happy you guys made this whole podcast about star wars. Thank you beautiful people!
I felt the same way about the new Star Wars as I imagine Star Trek fans felt about the Star Trek reboot. Decent movie, fucking horrible addition and huge disservice to the franchise. Was kinda hoping FH would have a more contrary opinion, but eh.
Amen
totally agree!!! This movie sucked. It pains me to see hardcore Star Wars fans say they loved it. This was a shitty New Hope with more plot holes than a cemetery
+Austin “The Turtler 31” Bennett they are blinded by nostalgia goggles
when do they ever?
+Austin “The Turtler 31” Bennett Don't worry, bro. I said it when I walked out of the theatre and I'm gonna keep on saying it. History is gonna tear that film apart. Some people need more time to think about a film than others and the more you think about it the more that film falls apart.
From the ADHD editing, to the lack of new, imaginative ideas, to the over-reliance on nostalgia, that film is and will continue to be the least 'Star Wars' of all of the films, including the prequels, because even at his worst Lucas still made Star Wars films. This? Outside of the designs for Phasma and the Spintrooper nothing in this film felt like it needed to happen. Nothing was added to the universe.
I'm Happy this podcast stayed on the positive side but remained open minded. You guys loved the movie and had some cool things to say, I really appreciated it.
The biggest problem imo was the ending. That panned helicopter shot was so cringey.
I enjoyed this podcast breaking the movie and explaining the lore as well as the speculations more than the movie
Omg!!! Adam that's genius!!! Great theory!!! Who do you guys thing snoke is? I had a theory he might be an ancient dark force user but not a sith.
+marblown I've been reading the book about Darth Plagueis by James Luceno, so if it turns out to be him, I'd be pretty damn excited. I am somewhat paranoid about where they'd take him, mostly because Luceno has done such a perfect job already of building his character. Since the movies have their own canon, they'd no doubt do something different with him, I just hope it doesn't crash and burn.
+marblown It's Jar Jar Binks
+marblown It's Darth Walt
+Shadownet Spy The books aren't canon but things in them can still be used in the films as canon so they might use the built up character
+marblown I'm pretty 1,000 percent sure he is Plagueis. He's a character that actually exists canonically (because Palpatine talks about him in Revenge of the Sith) and he is severely injured. Palpatine thought he killed his master, but Plagueis was one of the most powerful Sith ever, he learned how to cheat death. So I think he chilled around for a minute, let palpatine have his downfall and now he's back to wreck shop.
Bruce's intense Battlefront gaming stare, its beautiful but frightening.
also still makes me so happy that Bruces loves Battlefront as much as i do
I see The Force Awakens as a reboot/revival of Star Wars. It pleased old fans while making new fans ready for the next movies.
No it didn't please me (old fan, and it certainly didn't make new fans out of my nieces or nephews, who like the prequels & OT the most).
It's a bad knock-off of A NEW HOPE while at the same time depraving the OT of any meaning. The rebellion was pointless, because here we are again, doing the same stuff as they did in a New Hope. And does the protagonist at least make up for a bad and uncreative story? Nope. she can do ANYTHING, because she is a strong woman. Knows the frikking Millenium falcon better than Han & the force better than Luke ...without any training at all...
I didn't go into The Force Awakens with blind nostalgia, i expected a worthy and good Star Wars movie... i didn't get it and it was a harbinger of what was to come.
@@prince-solomon My comment is 6years old but ok. But since you took time to write all that i will respond by saying that while i enjoyed this first new movie i didn't end up going to see the next ones. Realised the good time i had at the theater was just nostalgia and the movie wasn't that good and just a rehash like you said. So i agree with you.
I watched it three times I love how people are and will continue to talk about this for a while
Force Awakens releases: "It felt like a rehash of old Star Wars movies."
2 years later...
The Last Jedi releases: "It felt too different."
Theory: All of Rey's visions are from her point of view, possibly the scene in the rain with the Knights of Ren, too. Meaning, instead of Rey being Luke's daughter or clone, she was his favorite student at his academy, and the only one he could save. (which might explain her sudden understanding of the Force, having blocked out previous memories to her abandonment, having been trained by Luke to a certain extent.) The lack of attention from his uncle could be why Kylo started to seek more power i.e. the dark side, and why Luke blamed himself for the destruction of his new jedi. This could also highlight the motif of connecting the main antagonist to the main protagonist in story that happens before the events of each trilogy, whether it be father and son, creator's appretice to created, etc.. Lor Tekka could have been a force sensitive adult Luke was training, linking him too knowing Kylo Ren and why he would be on Jakku, watching over Rey, literally with an armed village of refuges. This would also be why he had the last piece of the map in such close proximity to her, meaning that her maturation was what set off the pieces of the map coming out of hiding at this moment in time.
In Defense of Starkiller Base:
A) We have to realize that the First Order is a cult that worships the Empire essentially, idolizing them in every way, stealing children and raising them in cultish reverence of the empire. In worshipping the Empire, wouldn't it make senses to replicate the Empire's legacy of making the most powerful space station in history, and even take it to the next level?
B) I mean, they're essentially the Rebellion in this movie. They have a fraction of the Republic's forces, control some Outer Rim sector's, but then they sniped the Republic from across space, evening the odds, kinda like when the rebellion blew up the first Death Star.
Any other amount of similarity, is probably the opposite of what people have been shallowly equating it to. Han Solo is not the Ben Kenobi here, he is the Han Solo. Ben Solo is the counter-Kenobi. He was named Ben because his parents wanted him to be as pure and good as Ben Kenobi, a name with meaning. When he showed Force potential, he was sent to Luke's academy. Obviously he would learn of his name sake from Luke, thus he knows his parents wishes for his destiny. Whatever turns him to reject his destiny, whether it be influence of his grandfather's sith artifacts Luke unknowingly may have turned his students dark by exposing them to such powerful and recent artifacts, or he's just an attention freak, he renames himself Kylo upon his turn. The name "Ren" could even be an anti-Ben reference, not literally in the lore, but from a literary standpoint.
For the semantics guy in the comments: Read a book. Specifically, "Before the Awakens", it pretty much answers every question of Finn and Rey's seemingly understated competence, expect for Rey knowing how to understand Wookiee, which could also just be that the FIrst Order only teaches Basic, and everybody else pretty much speaks everybody else's language in the outside world. I mean he cant even speak to BB-8 in binary, where most characters can. Any holes other than the one's clarified in this book you can pretty much just wait for the next episode.
And if you really can't see the story devices used that set it apart from A New Hope, and how the devices that were reused in new and creative ways only add to the story being put together, and even create parallels to keep themes continued throughout movies to come that don't feature a single old-school character, because those theme's and motifs are what makes Star Wars... Star Wars. If you wanted a story where nobody reoccured, they all became old and gave up, and all the new characters and story elements were completely foreign and alienated the audience, which would have required a massive amount of exposition to reason out the story that the writers were going for, then I'm sure the prequels are in full stock at your local *insert store here*.
Joel's fanboyism took all his logic away, and its happened to most people I've spoken to about the movie. People blinded by star wars hype cannot comprehend how making two movies with carbon copy storylines could possibly be not such a great thing.
i like the force awakens. the movie is very aware that it treads on familiar territory and if you ask me it pulls it off well. something that is rarely executed correctly. for that i applaud them
thats fine, and maybe doing it for one movie to kickstart things is a smart move, rather than a safe one. but like james said, if they continue to do it then this whole reboot is worthless. at the very least all the people who continue to love it will have to admit that all they want is more of the same, over and over again.
Here's the thing. The prequels were closer to A New Hope than Force Awakens. Think about it. Two jedi's run into a tall, clumsy figure(Jar Jar in EP1, C-3P0 in EP4), they have to protect a princess, the potential jedi destroys the enemy base in space even though he's never flown a ship, the main vilian kills the mentor, the jedi prodigy's family is murdered by the enemy.
+FernandoFlynn You know, I've never really thought of it that way to be honest. It makes me respect the prequels and Lucas even more honestly because he has to endure all of the shit talking from retards.
+MegaTyler93 That still doesn't fix all the other major issues with the movies.
gnarkillguch That's why I brought it up. It pisses me off when people say "Oh Force Awakens is A New Hope 2.0" when I'm hear like "There is a New Hope 2.0 but its sure as hell not this movie".
FernandoFlynn I do also get irritated when people say that this movie is exactly like a New Hope, to me it absolutely isn't. Not that that's a bad thing either way in my opinion.
MegaTyler93 yeah but the only real similarities I see is there's a droid with important information, it meets the main character on a desert planet, there's a weapon that can blow up planets & SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!! The villain kills an old guy. That's it. I feel like it takes stuff from the entire old trilogy. The attack on Starkiller is more like Return Of The Jedi, Luke meeting Rey is from Empire, hell when I saw the two gangs confronting Han my first thought was Guardians Of The Galaxy. My only two problems with the movie as a whole are how Phasma was marketed & how R2-D2 just randomly turns on at the end of the movie. Other than that they nailed it.
"They repeated all things from New Hope and it was lame."
"New Tarkin, Hux, got away from the blowing up planet, what the hell"
Ok...
To James' point on similarity:
I listened to an interview that JJ Abrams did with some British woman (I listened to it on NPR but I for the life of me cannot find the thing anywhere to cite here). But Abrams briefly addressed that he chose a pacing and plot points very similar to A New Hope for two reasons;
1) To highlight the newer elements of the story and the new characters (by presenting familiar elements to move events of the plot the viewer is left to focus and digest more character establishing material),
2) to build a comfortable set-up that allows the next films to deviate from familiar points in an interesting, but not jarring way.
I'm excited to see where Episodes 8 & 9 go which to me means that Star Wars is doing what it should; develop interesting and dynamic characters.
I like the prequels.
I'm excited to see how Kylo progresses/regresses in the next movie. The ending with snoke talking about him completing his training and referencing how kylo's affinity for the light and dark side are very interesting and I really hope the next movie portrays him in an awesome way.
i didnt like the movie.
Okay.
Don't worry, I liked it for you.
It´s not only the motives and themes, it IS the same movie as the original, and you can not deny that: (SPOILERS AHEAD) a young boy/girl underdog on a waste desert planet runs into a droid with an important message from/for Leia, and than he/she need help from reluctant Han Solo and Chewie, while being chased by a all-black wearing villain with a mask, who is seduced by the dark force and an even more powerful entity..all that while on a NEW (bigger) death star, who is blown to pieces by the rebel pilots? Really? Really? Not the same movie, girl power amplified? Weak main villain. Disneys version of New hope (new Disney princess included), 7/10...
5/7
+Nenad Bogunovic Forgot to mention it was set on a desert planet that is totally NOT Tattoine.
Spoiler: Chewy has 15 ewoke wives, they think he's a Ewoke basketball player.
Something you may have missed, when Snoke is first shown and talking to Kylo Ren alone he says: "Even you the last of the Knights of Ren have never faced such a challenge".
Based on this it is likely the others are dead and we will not see them prominently in this trilogy but maybe in spin-off shows and such.
Also I noticed that Snoke looks pretty similar to the Grand Inquisitor a major antagonist in Star Wars Rebels. He is shown to have training in the force and with a lightsaber. While in the show he dies it is possible that other inquisitors were trained in the force and with lightsabers so it is possible Snoke is one of them.
P.S. if you don't know who the inquisitors were they were a group in the empire that were tasked with hunting down any jedi who survived Order 66
No love for Finn, I liked him more than i liked Rey.
I liked him, but I thought he was too stereotypical black guy at times.
+gnarkillguch he wasn't stereotypical at all.
+gnarkillguch stereotypical millenial male protagonist*
Lawrence killin' it at Battlefront and dropping some bomb-ass counterpoints to James' problems with Ant-Man, hell yeah!
i suppose no one finished watching the whole video.. YET
I've seen it 4 times now and I absolutely love it. I do have my issues (Phasma being underused, Phasma being a high ranking captain and bringing down the shields too easily, and I wish they had one extra scene with Ben/Kylo and Han to develop their relationship better) but guess what I have issues with Star Wars and issues with my favorite movie of all time, The Empire Strikes Back. Force Awakens is a wonderful addition and sits comfortably tied for second in my favorite for the franchise
I'm with James. This movie was just as good as the originals.... but those movies were made 40 years ago. They couldn't have improved (taken out) the plot holes? They couldn't fix some of the cheesiness? Again I give the movie 9/10 but small things like "I'm going to tell you the paint scheme of my droid because you have a better chance to find it than me" as they are getting shot at by huge fucking cannons just pulled me out of the movie because that isn't characteristic of someone who is getting shot at. I think movies should pull you in and you can understand or justify why a character makes their decision. There were just a few moments where I thought reallYYY really?! this is just weird. why would they do that? "I can barely fly a space ship, oh there's the Millennium Falcon. I'm going to fly it horrible at first then ALL of a sudden I'm a bad ass in 10 seconds." Just pulled me away from connecting with these characters. Still 9/10
+Capt.aids And Fin wants to do "what's right" but he stops killing random people in a town then turns around and starts killing his buddies? I just can't see any reasonable person making those decisions.... 9/10
+Mug FuckFace They aren't clones. I believe somewhere in the movie, it was mentioned that Fin (don't know if it's 1 n or 2) was pulled away from his family as an infant and was raised and trained by the First Order.
They do mention that there is clones and "recruits" but my point is that he had some revelation that killing is bad and he didn't want any part of that. then on his escape he shoots up a bunch of stormtroopers. Granted those were innocent people in the town but how did he know that there were innocent stormtroopers like himself. I just don't see that character making such drastic life changes so quickly. ... 9/10. ;)
+Capt.aids weren't *
Then why did they give her a line where she basically says she doesn't know what she's doing. They put that in the movie. If they hadn't it wouldn't have bothered me as much.
Now that the sequel trilogy is over it’s really interesting hearing there opinion and guessing the future of Star Wars. Also Bruce’s game face is fantastic
Videogames?
Bruce looks so angry playing, absolute joy to watch
Episode 1 was better.
Phantom menace? Or a new hope in the original trilogy?
Andrew Cochrane Episode 1, as in the 4th movie.
gr8 b8 m8
FINALLY, been so excited for the funhaus star wars podcast
Shit... I can't watch this one of yet. Can i?
+Kenneth Christian Agustin If you've not seen the movie, you probably shouldn't.
+Kenneth Christian Agustin don't, way too many spoilers
Kylo Ren ( Ben Solo) kills Han Solo
+Noah Synclair You're a real piece of shit. The guy obviously hasn't seen it and you post that?
Oh man you make me sad
Thank God there's a podcast up, I'm about to do 3 or 4 college apps and this is perfect for background entertainment
HOW TO FIX Star Wars: The Force Awakens
You don't. There is nothing wrong with that film.
+EliteGough1998 lel shut up, fanboy.
+EliteGough1998 No there are many things wrong with it. For instance... Why did R2 wake up all of the sudden? There was no explanation for it and it just came out of nowhere for plots sake. Also how dose someone who had been brainwashed by the First Order just up and betray them all of the sudden? That also just came out of nowhere and was for plots sake. Yes this movie is very good, but that does not mean that there is nothing wrong with it.
+Keith Wood He betrayed the First Order because he somehow figured out they killed his family and was taken.
+Keith Wood Noo, duuuuuhhhh he woke up because there was an awakening in the force because Rey got it... duuuh, duuuuuhhh. - I'm being sarcastic... it was bullshit, a lot of this film random things happened because it was necessary for the plot to progress rather than actually making a good story which connects smoothly.
Read the description
On Rey and kylos fight, kylo was tasked with bringing Rey to snoke. That added to everything else added to why the fight made perfect sense.
Also call me crazy, but did Rey start off the fight using palpatines fighting style? I didn't care for the prequels, but I recall palpatines fighting looking a bit like hers.
As someone that isn't into Star Wars/Star Trek kind of movies, I must say I was quite impressed. The movie stands on it's own and unlike the crap that was The Hobbit The Desolation of Smaug, this one actually ends in a satisfying way.
As much as some people may not like it, The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary does give some background to the characters and the setting in between Episode 6 and 7. With Kylo Ren, if he does get a redemption, I would like it if he has a bitter ending where he is neither good or evil and just hates himself for the rest of his life. Or, he realizes how evil and twisted he has become he forces Rey, most likely, to kill him. As for Rey, even my Mom, who has only seen episode 7, hopes that she isn't related to Luke saying it would be "unimaginative." I have to agree with her. I just can't wait for Episode 8.
love you guys and LOVE Bruces face as he plays as Luke haha best scowl EVER
Bruce, you did awesome holding it together during that first game. I would have lost it and that video would have been crap. you are the man
Rei is Luke's kid, it was already confirmed by disney material, Infinity 3.0 has the kylo ren character when fighting Rei say "Fight Me, Cousin"
I loved this episode of dude soup. It had very interesting points about the movie. Good job guys.
You know, regardless of where opinion falls on the movie, I just love that EVERYONE here (and around the world) is so passionate about this series. I've never seen a fanbase that loves a series as strongly as Star Wars fans, and that's why people are overly critical of them honestly. You always will be for something you absolutely love so much. We all remember falling in love with the series.
I personally think it did resemble ANH a little too much, but I did love the acting and characters, as stated in the video. After I saw episode 1 (ugh) there were literally NO good characters alive minus Obi-Wan. This one has way more going for it for a new trilogy than the prequels ever did.
Anyway, enjoy your arguments, SW's fans!
Bruce focusing when playing is the best part of the video
Loved this podcast. Keep it up, guys! Been with you since Inside Gaming and everything keeps getting better. 2016 let's go lol
The line "Rey these are your first steps" is said by Ewan McGregor
Guys for sure do two podcasts a week or extend this one into 2-3 hours. With 3-5 people its really hard to get into deep convocation and listen to everyone points. Specially when the first 10 minutes is an advert! You know you wannnnaaa :D
In the prologue book to the movie, Finn was being trained in a squad with three other troopers, but he was always sort of distant from them and they all gave each other nicknames, except for Finn. The trooper who gets pissed at Finn was one of the people who trained with Finn, which was why he was so pissed
Also, my dad and I were talking about how Rey could be so "good at the Force". We came up with an interesting theory that perhaps Luke has a Force Bond with Rey, and was working in her head to assist her with the force powers and maybe in her lightsaber showdown with Kylo Ren. In the scene where Kylo Ren is interrogating her and he mentions "I see the ocean I see the islands (etc)", it makes you wonder. They make a point in the movie to show Rey in awe of green trees and water, since all she remembers is the desert of Jakku. How would Kylo Ren see an ocean and islands in her head if she has no memory of anything but a desert? I don't know, could be way off target but it was neat to think about.
My favourite thing about The Force Awakens is the sound and music!!! John Williams is bae for life!
i really hope they show Rey being tempted by the darkside. when she is fighting with Kylo he says that he can help train her and you can see in her eyes that she is somewhat interested.
Going to references from previous movies, I love how the last thing Han said when he gave the Falcon back to Lando was something about not scratching it, what's the first thing Rey does? Drag the cockpit through the sand and skip the hull across the surface, I probably wouldn't have caught that if I didn't watch RotJ before I saw Episode 7.
An interesting piece that, which was actually clever in the writing, is that when Rey uses the lightsaber she is using it the exact same as she would as if it was her staff. She was by no means good at using it in traditional means of lightsaber dueling, but if you notice, she is using it in a stabbing/piercing motion, catching Kylo Ren off guard and forcing him to block it off in awkward ways. Therefore, since she had only ever used the staff, that's how she resorted to using the lightsaber also. I think that yes, the force did help her in that fight, but overall not with the lightsaber because of her past experience with her staff.
I really enjoyed this. Please do a sequal for more Star Wars talk.
Brilliant stuff. Seeing it again this weekend.
Bruce should play Battlefield or Battlefront for every Dude soup. Its the best gameplay hands down
After watching TFA a second time, I actually enjoy the similarities to A New Hope. The film caters to the longtime and hardcore fans with its homages and subtle/not-so-subtle references, while also having enough variance to be its own standalone entity. That being said, I also agree with James in that I have to wait until Episode VIII comes out. I really think VIII and IX will be completely different Star Wars films than we've come to expect, so I'll be pretty disappointed if they end up being remakes of Empire and Jedi.
I listened to this while playing star wars battlefront 2 for the first time in years, it holds up so well
Can I just say that what Bruce was saying about the corridor Rey saw in the vision wasn't the detention center in A New Hope: It was the corridor in Cloud City where Luke and Vader dueled. Also, I thought I heard Obi-Wan's voice in the vision, but my brother says he heard Yoda's voice as well. Lastly, last I checked on Wookiepedia, the Battle of Jakku was said to have taken place about one year after Endor & it was such a big count of casualty that it lead to the treaty to formally end the war between the Empire & the Rebels.
I don't know why James mentioning Super Sentai made me happy but it did
The hallway that Rey is in during the flashback is actually Cloud City in Empire.
I read on Slashfilm that she was originally supposed to witness Luke's hand being cut off, but that scene didn't happen and instead she's just in the hallway and you can hear Luke screaming "NO!" in the background.
I need to rewatch to confirm, but it was on Slashfilm's "20 Scenes Cut From the Film"
During the scene where palpatine tells anakin about plagueis has a song playing called the tragedy of darth plagueis the wise and the same song is used to introduce plagueis. I would love to hear your thoughts Bruce.
You guys talking about Star Wars made me enjoy it 4x more
the thing is that plagueius was so powerfull he could save ppl from death. sidius says he could save anyone but himself... but he probably did
I was thinking about the Death Star/Star Killer concept and when you think about it, they were actually VERY successful weapons. The first Death Star killed an entire civilization before it was destroyed. So the Empire wipes out an entire planet and only loses a fraction of its troops... sounds like a pretty good trade. Star Killer Base although it was much bigger, and presumably, took a lot more effort to construct/man, it still took out an ENTIRE system (i.e. five inhabited planets)!!! An even bigger win! Yeah, you can definitely criticize the fact that there is always a way to blow up these bases, but it's space magic, and the Empire/First Order made successful weapons. It would be plausible that evil factions would want to continue to develop these doomsday weapons.
I'm a little late to the party but I totally agree with James. They could not have picked a more safe story arc than that and because of that I found the movie was ultimately just fanfare. That being said I was entertained and the way they set up the next 2 movies has made me eagerly wait with anticipation
I hadn't seen a new hope in about 4 years and it immediately reminded me of it
I haven't finished the podcast yet, but one of my favourite semi-parallels of TFA to the originals was how the new trio (Rey, Finn, Poe) doesn't directly echo the original trio (Leia, Luke, Han).
Okay, Poe is the ace pilot who blows up Starkiller Base. So he's the Luke! But wait, he's also the (humourously) cocky cool dude. So he's more like Han! But wait, the two female characters only echo one another with the fact that have have the Force! So she's actually Luke, even though Poe also has elements of Luke! And Finn's abandonment of Rey and then returning to [try] and save her is also like Han! And Finn and Rey both use Luke's lightsaber!
There's way more, I just found it really interesting.
This was a great podcast. I really enjoyed just you guys talking about the movie and how you feel about it, nice to hear echoes of stuff I thought and even better things I'd not. As well as things I may not agree with but because its put forward so well. It all comes together and just grows and develops my thoughts on the movie and whole thing.
Cool movie and cool podcast
I really dig Adam's Padawan theory, I don't like how people think Rey is Luke's daughter.
28:38 good guess
I love how you guys defended the battlefront game saying that it's fine when there is a complete lack of content. However you didn't hesitate to make this video.
