At 9.20 after the talk of psychonauts, spoole asks James if he has told them about.... and James said it's unconfirmed, James is a voice in psychonauts!
+captloki13 Didnt they already do that and fuck it up with Shao Jun, I still remember when I first read about her I was so excited to use her foot blade and then it was just a side scroller
James Willems confirmed for Psychonauts 2? *During brief discussion about Psychonauts* Spoole: 'did you tell them about...?' James: No. no. I mean... no. Spoole: Unsure, unconfirmed.
+Johnnypt14 Well I don't buy games just to make the developers rich... So I couldn't care less how they do business, if you keep putting out recycled content then I'm not going to buy it.
+Johnnypt14 its better to have a longer development cycle and a higher quality, more content game than publish a similar game with minimal improvements and a large amount of glitches and problems every year
Dude assassins creed black flag was amazing. I can't believe I bought rouge, it was the same piece of shit, and all that changed was that you played as a Templar -.- unity was alright when it worked with friends. 3 was just unplayable. I didn't buy syndicate. I'm gonna wait till its on Amazon for 10 bucks since it was on sale for 35 bucks the price should drop more lol
Assassins Creed used to be a good series because it was such a unique concept. Now that we are 1382 games into the series though it is really stale and boring.
+John Barnes I disagree, I feel they should go even more serious but have a couple characters be funny and witty like Shaun is in Assassins Creed for comic relief.
+Edvard Evans Comic relief is the worst. Be serious, or be funny. Characters who exist only to make light of dark situations are weaponized, cancerous Hitler.
***** for me i have been a long time ac fan an i've played every single game and i've got to say that this is probably the 2nd best ac by far (personally i think brotherhood is the best),its just done so well the gameplay, the story, the free roam, the secrets and stuff the map it's really enjoyable and i've completed like 92% of the game and i've got to say you'll enjoy every moment of it.I think that so far the worst ac is unity that game is just so...ah can't describe it
I really enjoyed this podcast, spoole normally feels a little shallow and reverts to jokes but he felt very sincere here. Lawrence is on point as always and as a whole everyone had valuable input and added alot to the conversation. great job.
+Davis Uplay takes less than 30 seconds to load up into your game, you don't even need to deal with the interface of Uplay if you want to play a game and when you do it seems to be seamless and fast responding.
Okay I'm commenting after being 55 minutes in, and we spent all this time talking about Ubisoft with no mention of Splinter Cell. That series is still the best stealth game to me.
+Chayse Collier Oh yes I def agree.. I personally adored Blacklist despite it being a recent modern game. The level design in that game was well-thought out with smart object placements and just tight mechanically. But then Phantom Pain came along..
for the conversation at 11:00, Rayman was one of those that re-invented itself. Started as a 2D side scroller then changed to 3D and did pretty well then lost its way somewhere with the Rabbits and now its gone back to 2D side scrolling with really good reviews
Not really, Assassin's Creed is actually enjoyable, and despite what many think, they do improve and smooth out their mechanics with every game. Unlike CoD and Battlefield.
volleystew I am not saying that they revolutionised their game each time, but each game is different in one or more ways from the ones that come before it or after it, sure it is lost in what we are doing in the game exactly but it feels fresh each time, unlike Battlefield and CoD which is just the same garbage games with new skins slapped on.
+dsimasta1 Adding new guns or maps is not changing the game (In any significant way at least). And that is all they do, there is no innovation in Battlefield or CoD anymore, that ended with MW2 and BF3, which is unfortunate.
Have you played Black Ops 3? They have changed how you play multiplayer, story and zombies. Much more then Assassin's Creed were you go to your waypoint then either; find and kill your target/ follow them on a predetermined path/ infiltrate a base on a predetermined path/ go get "resources" to improve your stuff. All the while using the same methods that you have been using since the series started.
I do like Shadow of Mordor. Definitely my GoTY of 2014, but the reason I liked it because of the nemesis system. Seeing a guy you killed before comeback again and again and saying stuff like "I'll get you this time" or something was great. Also, the skill tree was unique with some pretty cool ideas. AC doesn't really.
+stevesb97 That's likely because the focus was more on combat, than parkour. Parkour was useful for the sake of combat, but the focus of the game was on the struggle and on the story (which was FAR better than ANY Ass-Creed story so far) The LoTR universe is so much more immersive. Another thing that SoM did right, that AC still doesn't get and over and over again goes into "Hey, let's place some popular historical characters into the game, give some them bullshit repeating missions that have NO impact on the main story line, because people will think that we are cool and historical correct." Granted, SoM is set in a already existing fictional universe, but it didn't force known characters from the movies or the other games in over your head, for the sake of strengthening the franchise.
+Ra-Nd -Om so what if they added a skill tree maybe not exactly but like dying light's, you'd have a I guess assassin order skill tree (letting you learn different assassins abilities and upgrade ones such as your eagle sense), a agility skill tree (letting you upgrade your parkour skills such as being able to run faster or jump farther distances), and a combat tree (letting you learn different combat techniques and fighting styles as well as making your attacks stronger)
Vote for Bernie oh well i havent played syndacite so thanks for the info but i still think a skill tree system akin to dying light would work very well
The Assassins's Creed film is getting a lot of stick because it's a video-game adapation, HOWEVER I think it's going to surprise people, primarily because of the director, Justin Kurtzel who directed the latest Macbeth film, which was a tremendous achievement. Kurtzel clearly has a good relationship with Fassbender + Marion Cotillard, whom were both in Macbeth themselves and are some of the finest actors of our generation. ALSO I believe the cinematographer from Macbeth is also involved in AC, which again, is a huge plus! Have faith Funhaus! :)
Honestly I hope rumors of an Egyptian AC are true. It would be a great place for the 3 main pillars. Crowded streets for social stealth, some kind of revamped combat, and with shorter buildings a focus on free-running that gives you a real advantage if a target is running since you can avoid being stuck in crowds. Plus maybe you wouldn't be able to climb over every bit of large structures, making actual climbing a bit more methodical. Not to mention all of the story possibilities. The coolest thing about the first one was seeing a time period most people don't know much about, where there is more room to bend history.
Hello *DIDN'T WATCH VIDEO YET* But from the title I'd like to thank you guys for not still saying it's the greatest game series ever made *cough cough Achievement Hunter* *cough cough Jack*
I couldn't be happier about a break from Assassin's Creed. I started Syndicate but though it didn't have good sense of amazement of exploration like Black Flag. Hopefully they will go back in time and we can explore Egypt with more fun missions instead of mindless collecting of feathers, flags, or animus fragments.
Reuben Lloyd Then I would have cancer...and Lazer Team would still look like crap. Seriously though, it's the same story with all these UA-cam celebrity movies. Having a high production value does not make a movie good, you have to put all your work into the script! And the jokes in the trailer are absolutely cringeworthy. But that's just my opinion.
I don't want to sound like an asshole, but I hope it bombs. Badly. Rooster Teeth have been bleeding quality for years now; RT shorts have gotten worse, titles and thumbnails are invariably clickbait-ish, RvB takes itself way too seriously, and they've taken to hiring dozens of identikit, media studies degree dudebros with no personality. Ultimately that's the root of problem; personality was what made RT unique, now it just feels so corporate.
Alexei Brownski yeah funhaus is pretty much the only thing that i watch anymore, before i loved achievement hunter, but then ray left they do the same jokes over and over the hate in the comments got worse and the quality dropped, it must have been a month since i last watched one of their videos
Even after Syndicate, my faves are still AC 3 and AC Brotherhood. Revelations was crazy with the Tower Defense Mini game! I loved this series since 2008 when I played AC 1
+FurryFerris actually her name is Elyse...it's made clear in the beginning of the video that her name is Elyse...only a real gentleman would spell her name right.
My history teacher spent some time in Jerusalem as a tour guide when he was younger, and when he was playing one of the Assassin's Creed games, he was told to meet a character at a palace that he used to show to tourists and the game gave him a route. But he knew the city so well and Assassin's Creed was so accurate that he took the route he used to take as a tour guide and beat the game character to the palace
James' opinions are quite spot on with this topic. I've played with every Assassin's Creed up to Black Flag (with the exception of Liberation) as well.
I love how Lawrence will confidently declare something as fact and then in the next sentence backtrack with "I could be completely wrong about that". "The moon is getting closer to earth each year and will eventually crash into the planet and kill us all. I could be completely wrong about that."
5:08 Well James, that "purpose" use to have been in the present day sections of the game. The character was put in the animus and learned about the past with the the *purpose* of figuring something out in the present. But as you many times said that you hated the present day sections of AC (many complained about it), they cut it out of the nest games.
James, when you asked "Has there been a game that was really popular, then came back a few years and was really crappy?" Banjo kazooie - nuts and bolts is a good example. :)
I feel this was the most respect they've ever actually visibly given to spoole. Not to say the hate him it's just that he could give his point without ridicule .
Just as you guys pointed out, that is why Witcher 3 hit the sweet spot in the gaming community, it's a balance of allowing the player to do anything you might want, the conversations are funny and you don't feel as you're being judged by the game after you pick your own choosing (doing the good or bad thing), it's open world so you can go brain dead like Fallout, but take a second to think and you can find more things to do in the game, everything has it's purpose but you can choose what the purpose of it will be.
I love this series. It's had a few missteps with Unity and 3, but I still enjoy it, especially with Syndicate(probably in my top 3 of the entire franchise, next to 2 and Black Flag). I do think, however, that moving away from an annual release cycle will greatly benefit the franchise. Gives them more time to innovate and come out with something extraordinary
This is the first Dude Soup I've watched. In other episodes, do they just talk about video games or do the talk about a variety of different things like the RT podcast?
All kinds of different things the podcast is centered around games but they will speak about the games industry past life experiences and all round interesting things :) I've only been watching for a few months but I enjoy every dude soup that is released haha
Wouldn't Mirror's Edge be an example for a game that had a popularity spike, then went dead for years? Then all of sudden they refresh their vision and it looks like a better game than the previous.
+TajnyTaktyk I'm a broke, jobless, loveless, hopeless musician. I live in a town where jobs don't exist and i can't drive because i'm too broke to afford it. So forgive me if I sound fucking depressed because i am.
Probably but I'm too broke to move anywhere at the moment. I've spent just as much time learning my craft as any mechanic or carpenter so playing and writing music is what i do just like a those kind of people. I've realized that i will never be happy not doing music so its a weird predicament i'm in at the moment. I fully realize that i have to make money to survive but its almost impossible in my area to do that at the moment.
Good discussion. I think the ide of being a janitor in Ubisoft games (and a lot of open world games) is something I've never thought of before, but probably perfectly summarizes my feelings -- all that stuff is THERE, and I want to do it out of compulsion to have everything explored & looked at & dealt with, but it's not really satisfying in its own right to do it.
What James said is very true (about how AC seems to have steered away from a "purpose"), but I also think what they've been doing in the last few games may be leading up to something bigger, although what's happened hasn't been very "huge".
I too have taken 2 years off from Assassin's. Since Assassin's Creed Revelations came out I 100% Assassins Creed 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, 3 and I did Black Flag twice (360 and ONE) back to back over the course of 3 years. By the time I finished Black Flag for the second time Unity and Rogue was out and I tried to get into Unity but at that point I was burnt out. I probably won't get around to carrying on with the series till next year or late this year.
I agree with you on the digital touring aspect in AC, Lawrence. This past summer I saved enough money to go to Italy. While I was in Florence, I climbed to the top of Brunelleschi's Duomo. From there, I could pin point things from AC2 and it just felt really amazing!
Gabe Puratekuta I used my parkour skills undetected! ;) You're allowed to climb to the top, which is 463 steps (no elevator)! >_< It's a tough climb if you're claustrophobic, but well worth it!! You can see pretty much everything from there.
00:35:00 Had the same thing happen in Fable 3. I was playing with one of my characters then a co-op glitch deleted all my weapons, while i was in the process of collecting them all. So I started a new female character, I changed my xbox live avatar to a girl, I unplugged my mic and only communicated with a keyboard. In only a few days I had every single weapon. So yea, if you want to be super meta tryhard, always make your characters Female and Cute.
preach it Lawrence!!! black flag has always been my least favourite since you didn't even become an assassin till the end and it just felt plain. should have been a Pirates Creed game... I want them to go back to the old games style, the ezio saga will always be the best in my opinion, especially the seamlessness between AC2 & AC brotherhood.
ive never hated ac. i love every game that comes out. its like adam with halo and james with psychonauts. dont care what you say, i will always love it
The fun feeling I had playing the AC games died out after Revelations. It came back a little with Black Flag but nothing since then. But if the whole Egypt game rumours are true I'll definitely be buying it. Especially if they spend more than a year creating it.
Piping hot bowl of dude soup soothes the soul. I haven't done any research so don't crucify me but I can't tell if James and Elise are related or together. I like to think they're related because they're both beautiful people and I refuse to believe beautiful people only end up with other beautiful people. Also, I want to believe Lawrence has a chance.... With James ;)
The last AC game I bought was Black Flag when it released, and seeing the cluttered map made me stop the moment I got a ship. Hearing that it's not like the others in the series, I'm going to try it again today.
It always comes back to VR, doesn't it, Lawrence. But yeah Metroid jumped to motion control really well. I had issues with Corruption(difficulty, cumulative weapons instead of seperate, introduced a bunch of characters and then immediately axed them) but the controls were not one of them.
I love the smell of Dudesoup in the morning...
Yeah
+Nick baker but it's 3 pm :(
+WaGGu0901 europe ftw
+WaGGu0901 Europe Ftw
+Nick baker its morning too in south america, and btw europe sucks
At 9.20 after the talk of psychonauts, spoole asks James if he has told them about.... and James said it's unconfirmed, James is a voice in psychonauts!
well unconfirmed but still talks of it!
its confirmed now!
Sean: "Do you want mattress desk...?"
Lawrence: "Oh shit, that's a good idea" with a tinkle in his eye
I wonder how long will it take for Ubisoft to finally figure out that they should do the next AC game set in Feudal Japan.
+captloki13 Didnt they already do that and fuck it up with Shao Jun, I still remember when I first read about her I was so excited to use her foot blade and then it was just a side scroller
+FusionShardProductions She is chinese, I think. So they still could do one in japan.
+captloki13 There's some concept art by this new guy at one of their studios
+captloki13 (Japan)
Palcom watch someone call me racist lol jkjk anywho I think they just need one set in an asian country
the only collectables that are worth getting are in mafia 2 because they are porno mags
Best collectibles in a game award for all time
+MeditatedYeti so true lmao

+MeditatedYeti You know porn is free on the internet right?

James Willems confirmed for Psychonauts 2?
*During brief discussion about Psychonauts*
Spoole: 'did you tell them about...?'
James: No. no. I mean... no.
Spoole: Unsure, unconfirmed.
well he is gonna audition for the psychonauts 2.
Well... The franchise would benefit more if it didn't come out every year.
+machew san I don't think that is how business works...
+Johnnypt14 actually it does, look at gta, bestseller and how many games a year? less than 1 lol
9:00 Banjo-Kazooie
Bomber man?
Duke Nuke?
Ninja Gaiden
if they were talking about movies then star wars would be a great example
+Whisper did you see james when she was just about to say psychonauts? he looked like he was gonna flip his shit
Assassins Creed used to be a good series because it was such a unique concept. Now that we are 1382 games into the series though it is really stale and boring.
I enjoyed Watch Dogs, but if they're working on the next installment, I hope it has a less depressing story.
Yeah watch dogs was so far up it own ass they should just go silly and find a happy medium between serious moments and silliness
+John Barnes watch dogs sucks
+John Barnes I liked it
+John Barnes I disagree, I feel they should go even more serious but have a couple characters be funny and witty like Shaun is in Assassins Creed for comic relief.
+Edvard Evans Comic relief is the worst. Be serious, or be funny. Characters who exist only to make light of dark situations are weaponized, cancerous Hitler.
You guys should do a Bowl of Dude Soup with Peake, Spoole, and Joel (plus Lawrence of coarse).
I see Adam finally got the blonde hair dye he always wanted
Who ever is at the office at 6 in the morning to upload these is my hero, love from NorCal
Shane Coole needs to be thing.
if I could like comments on my phone, I would have liked this lol
+Steven Hernandez no worries I liked it for you.
+Alexei Brownski Schoole
the new assassins creed is actually really really good...
No it not
Come on dude, no need to lie..
+Henrio Have any of you two actually played the new AC?
And I mean "play" it. Not watch gameplay on YT
+gvgf- therandomgamer I agree dude, always been a fan of the franchise and Syndicate was really fun and worked well!

Play viscera clean up detail
+volleystew after a few years, is there really any other kind of janitor? :D
I really enjoyed this podcast, spoole normally feels a little shallow and reverts to jokes but he felt very sincere here. Lawrence is on point as always and as a whole everyone had valuable input and added alot to the conversation. great job.
Anyone else really like elyse?
Yeah she's pretty dope. She's James wife too
+Parker Allen James is her husband too
+lawrence did you know they are a married couple?
She is awesome.
I like her, her husband likes her (James), and her Work Husband likes her too (Spoole)
Hitman: Blood Money, few cans of Stella and dude soup is always the best way to enjoy life
What is James keeping from us?!
he is gonna audition for the psychonauts 2
His love
i managed to find 96 hours in Black Flag. Still not sure how, probably Piracy.
No, we hate Ubisoft for games being released broken, and the miserable network and interface that is Uplay.
+Davis Theyve also gotten very stale, but thats what happens when you reskin ac2 5 times.
+Davis YOU hate Ubisoft. Don't speak for everyone.
+TheTinyTimmyTimTim but the new one has top hats
Leo Sheingate yea but it doesn't have chaser. 5 top hats out of 10
+Davis Uplay takes less than 30 seconds to load up into your game, you don't even need to deal with the interface of Uplay if you want to play a game and when you do it seems to be seamless and fast responding.

Lawrence... always saying what I am either already saying or thinking. You truly are my brother from another mother.
does James's wife work at Funhaus now?
+Andrew Toomer Think so
+FurryFerris I'm well aware of what she's called, I just couldn't think of it at the time. calling her James's wife is no way degrading it's a fact
+FurryFerris yeah I'm sorry I disagree with you and nothing will change that. I'm just not a social justice warrior and never will be
+FurryFerris actually her name is Elyse...it's made clear in the beginning of the video that her name is Elyse...only a real gentleman would spell her name right.
+FurryFerris it's actually Elyse, lol.
I like what Bruce has done with his hair. He suits it blonde.
So who likes this new girl that james is banging? She is certainly far better in my opinion then the two main girls from the know.
whealler100 I think her and James is married
and you are correct about her being better than Meg and For sure better than Lindsay.
Because she's genuine and not fake/annoying.
Fuck that gameplay's distracting
this was the best dude soup in my opinion. good chill group
"Imagine being a brony in this virtual world" -Elyse
"Yeah there's nothing better" -James
I love them already.
James' opinions are quite spot on with this topic.
I've played with every Assassin's Creed up to Black Flag (with the exception of Liberation) as well.
Lol,I love how Lawrence can make things get awkward so quick. Like 0 to 100 in 2 seconds, Then just utter silence......
I'm so glad Elyse joined Funhaus!
Lawrence's face when they said mattress desk was just priceless
The fact that Watch Dogs took place in Chicago pretty much sold me there. Since I live in Chicago.
Ah, a refreshing bowl of Dude Soup with a side of Elyse!
hey Lawrence. I got my mattress the other day. THANKS! best self holiday gift ever.
I feel like without Adam or Bruce we have no adult supervision.
James, when you asked "Has there been a game that was really popular, then came back a few years and was really crappy?"
Banjo kazooie - nuts and bolts is a good example.
:)
i personally miss my time watching Lawrence on twitch. he is always so involved in his games :)
I feel this was the most respect they've ever actually visibly given to spoole. Not to say the hate him it's just that he could give his point without ridicule .
i love this channel
This is a super apologetic bowl of Dude soup
Lawrence and James you have said what ive been saying about ac 4 black flag for years. Thank you
This is the first Dude Soup I've watched. In other episodes, do they just talk about video games or do the talk about a variety of different things like the RT podcast?
All kinds of different things the podcast is centered around games but they will speak about the games industry past life experiences and all round interesting things :)
I've only been watching for a few months but I enjoy every dude soup that is released haha
Watching Bruce in the background was pretty interesting. He seems like a very work-focused person. Just putting that out there
Wouldn't Mirror's Edge be an example for a game that had a popularity spike, then went dead for years? Then all of sudden they refresh their vision and it looks like a better game than the previous.
I love the smell of DudeSoup in the afternoon....
Enjoying Syndicate but it's definitely time for a break to reinvigorate the series, the 2017 Egypt AC sounds pretty cool. Good potential there
I love when you talk about subjects like this, but I wish I could interject sometimes! Damn!
Just when I was looking for a new mattress. Dudesoup has the answers.
Assassin's creed brings me a lot of happiness and it fills a lot of my time which is exactly what i need in my life right now.
+TajnyTaktyk I'm a broke, jobless, loveless, hopeless musician. I live in a town where jobs don't exist and i can't drive because i'm too broke to afford it. So forgive me if I sound fucking depressed because i am.
Ok sorry dude. But, is it really wise being a musician or any artist for that matter especially in an area where there aren't enough jobs.?
Probably but I'm too broke to move anywhere at the moment. I've spent just as much time learning my craft as any mechanic or carpenter so playing and writing music is what i do just like a those kind of people. I've realized that i will never be happy not doing music so its a weird predicament i'm in at the moment. I fully realize that i have to make money to survive but its almost impossible in my area to do that at the moment.
Good discussion. I think the ide of being a janitor in Ubisoft games (and a lot of open world games) is something I've never thought of before, but probably perfectly summarizes my feelings -- all that stuff is THERE, and I want to do it out of compulsion to have everything explored & looked at & dealt with, but it's not really satisfying in its own right to do it.
nice to have a dudesoup in the background while i work
30:55 Spoole is so right it hurts, the future is fast approaching and my childhood imagination isn't too keen.
I actually got really invested in the game Lawrence was playing
I probably won't get around to carrying on with the series till next year or late this year.
love the shoutout to Bloodborne and Rom the Vacuous Spider.
I agree with you on the digital touring aspect in AC, Lawrence. This past summer I saved enough money to go to Italy. While I was in Florence, I climbed to the top of Brunelleschi's Duomo. From there, I could pin point things from AC2 and it just felt really amazing!
+TheWhistler And there were no guards to stop you?
Gabe Puratekuta I used my parkour skills undetected! ;)
You're allowed to climb to the top, which is 463 steps (no elevator)!
I want them to go back to the old games style, the ezio saga will always be the best in my opinion, especially the seamlessness between AC2 & AC brotherhood.
my name is shane and this episode really boosted my confidence
ive never hated ac. i love every game that comes out. its like adam with halo and james with psychonauts.
dont care what you say, i will always love it
The fun feeling I had playing the AC games died out after Revelations.
Bruce is hard at work. Keep it up!
Brotherhood was my favorite assassins creed but Unity was a close second.
The last AC game I bought was Black Flag when it released, and seeing the cluttered map made me stop the moment I got a ship. Hearing that it's not like the others in the series, I'm going to try it again today.
Soon it's going to be Ready Player Number One.
AC2, AC Bros in da hood, AC Revelations, AC3, AC Brack Frag, and last AC Unity. Have yet to play Syndicate.
Black Flag was the last AS game I played. It deleted my save after I played it for 25 hours, never opened the game again
It always comes back to VR, doesn't it, Lawrence.
But yeah Metroid jumped to motion control really well. I had issues with Corruption(difficulty, cumulative weapons instead of seperate, introduced a bunch of characters and then immediately axed them) but the controls were not one of them.
