I confronted a similar pair yesterday at one of our local supermarket's entrance/exits in Brunswick, Maine. I asked the male violinist, about in his 50s, to play me a piece without the accompaniment [wherein the "violin" parts are found]. He pretended not to understand English and fumbled with the violin's cord at the amp end. Same violin as seen here, btw. Then, a 50ish overweight, swarthy woman appeared. She didn't take kindly to me exposing their scam. She spoke to me in Romanian or whatever Gypsy tongue they use, flipped me the bird and gave me a mock "moon". I circled around and came up behind them with my phone camera trained on them. The woman came at me and made a hissing sound as she made a mock swipe at me, slashing the air. I told them that's what the cops need to see. I also observed her scoping out the insides of parked cars there. These folks Always work in groups. They were gone when I returned an hour or so later. A couple or so years ago, I fell for their scam, right at the same spot. It was a different guy who "played" beautifully. He seemed to have the right fingerings on the strings [as if I knew, I play piano and harmonicas, jazz/blues], and he had the standard bowing, or so I thought, and a nice smile. He also had a big sign with words on it like "honest", and "god" and "thank you". He had a couple of young teen girls with him, swarthy with dark, unsmiling eyes, the dead eyes look, suspicious, so common with this clan. Still, I tipped the guy five dollars, I think, and left. So, after yesterday's event, I went home to quickly learn a few choice phrases in Romanian. As mentioned earlier, they were gone. I so wanted to say to the woman, "Isti un porc!!!". Next time, if there is another scam "violinist" here, I'm going to open with Portugues. Knowing that won't be understood by them, I will then speak in English with a fake Brasilian accent. And I will smilingly ask them to play me a tune, unaccompanied. Or, maybe I'll take a harmonica and play some simple tune like Three Blind Mice and ask them to repeat it, knowing full well they can't. And then I will make sure they know what scum they are. They put the "tune" in opportunists.

Because he's just begging for money, then I have seen his kids by the road with a sign. I was actually wondering today if he was actually even playing, anytime he stops to talk to someone, everything just stops instantly, he's got a big sign saying he needs help with rent etc
Why is she holding the bow like it has something nasty on it? People really should see if they are even playing it correctly instead of helping the scam
They do this a lot in wv md and va. If you call them out for not actually playing they pretend to be deaf. Look how she is holding the frog, can see that from 2 DQ’s over
How on earth did European Roma get into the USA? In Europe, as long as they are from an EU country, which they normally are, they can enter any other EU country due to freedom of movement. I thought it was a lot harder to enter the USA never mind stay there.
Fake passports?
Is she playing the trumpet
I don’t even play the violin and I could tell that’s fake. The hands movement, the fingers, and music it supposedly “produces” just don’t match !!!!
You would think they would at least learn to hold the bow right. Makes me want to smash their hands!
I somehow noticed that she was holding the bow wrong and that’s how you can see that they are a scam
If you pay close attention, you'll see theres actually no piano either
Oh my, I saw one of these today while doing carts.
This woman had her CASH APP on the sign she was holding.
The violin wasn't plugged into the speaker.
There was a piano playing for some reason. (There was no piano or keyboard)
And there were times where this guy wasn't even playing
It's like watching a foreign movie in the 60s where the words don't match up with the mouths of the actors😂
That is how affirmative action violin playing looks like if there is one. 😂😂😂
I saw a guy doing this at the market. I dont think anyone fell for it. I havent seen him again.
As a violinist, I can immediately tell that she's faking. Her bow hold is a joke.
Frr
If they were honest, maybe they can just let the music play, no need for words , people appreciate some good relaxing music when going shopping
She’s not even on beat but she’s the prettiest scammer of all time
Lmao how she's holding the bow
the way she holds her bow hurts my soul
Saw one of these recently, and wished I had a kazoo, an amp, and a recording so I could set up shop across the parking lot. "Will accompany Crosstown Traffic for food."
Wow that smile on her face and just knowing she scamming folks is evil
Each of these fraud people will get their hell and torture when they pass from this earth
The same can be said about any bands or artists you like.
Backing tracks are backing tracks and the industry has been using them for a long time...
As a music producer this is cringey asf to watch 😂
It's chill man, neither of you know anything about music
The tears are rolling of my closed wallet😂
BRO LOOK AT THERE FINGER POSITIONING ITS SO FAKE. Don’t fall for this scam guys
i was so focused on her pretty face that i'v had to watch the vid twice to see it
It’s a free country, if you don’t want to pay her don’t, move along…
Exactly. At least she's not charging 100 bucks a ticket to hear her backing tracks...
No it's not a free country we are a country of laws in this breaks the law of fraud by deception
She plays very beautifully
The way she's holding the bow is making me FURIOUS
Not even playing the violin. 😂😂😂
