Each socialist state and how it is unique from other socialist states is based in the material conditions of said state, the culture up to that point, etc. advanced in the science of revolution, etc. Which is how we had Black Panthers as the most advanced revolutionary party in America - they were based in black liberation and decolonization, which is very American. It's about what the people want - the 'mass line' concept, not about what any theorist says or thinks. The idea is to take the needs of the people, analyze them with Marxist analysis, give revolutionary solutions, carry out those solutions, go back to the people with them, rinse repeat. That is totally not how it went lmao. Destiny's best argument was "famines". And by that i mean "when famines happen in socialism that means its because of socialism, but when it happens in capitalism, its not because of capitalism and its whataboutism if you bring it up".
@@ashfox7498 If you think comparing Hitler to socialism is the same you’re making a false equivalence. Hitler was a ruler with the clear goal to exterminate a group of people on the basis of race, sexuality, etc. Socialism had the goal of bringing the working classes together. Any famine that occurred in the process was caused by a variety of factors not always directly linked to socialism itself. So it is rather dishonest for somebody to try and use them as clear examples of socialism failing. Not to mention most of the societies that had famines were already having famines prior to the establishment of socialism and socialism helped reduce the famines. Other countries which transitioned to a socialist economy didn’t have famines or the famines were nowhere as widespread as, say, in Mao’s China. That is not to say socialism is the alternative today, although I would consider myself to be a socialist. But bringing up these historical famines to have a gotcha moment is arguing in bad faith.
@@Athena_said Not comparing Hitler to socialism, but I am comparing one genocide to another. Stalin reacted to the famine in the Ukraine with as much urgency as Reagan reacted to the AIDS crisis. It was a massive loss of human life made worse by government policy as a result of a ruler making the choice that certain people shouldn't be alive anymore.
@@ashfox7498 Stalin never purposely starved Ukrainians, so the argument "Stalin thought some people's lives were not worth living which resulted in their genocide" is an intent people like you ascribe to him. The whole "the Holodomor" was deliberately caused narrative is even dismissed by anti-Stalinist historians. There were so many factors behind it including natural causes. It is even speculated the starvation would have been inevitable regardless of government policy. That's 1) and 2) Stalin is not the face of socialism so when discussing socialism, bringing him up as some golden example of how bad socialism is is just ridiculous given how anti-Stalinist most leftists are today. Stalin would only be a valid example in a discussion with a Stalinist tankie.
@@Athena_said Well 2 is my point, Stalin isn't socialism. Stalin is really really bad, and I've heard this spiel that the Holodomor was a big accident that can't be blamed on anyone and it's not anywhere near as widely accepted as you're making it out to be. Everybody just being anti-Stalinist is a pretty easy non-falsifiable get out of jail free card. There is definitely some debate on what level Stalin was blameable for what happened, but most historians would ascribe some malicious intent to how he handled the situation. That is, there's a reason why politicians like talking like he does, in vague and rambling ways; it helps people latch onto parts of their message which they pattern match to their own beliefs, and extrapolate out and convince themselves the politician secretly agrees with them.
@@zombiesingularity He didn't though. He talked in circles most of the time and wouldn't specifically answer questions. He wants socialism. Generally describes socialism. @@chuckecheese5251 That's not true. He absolutely describes how his system would work. He isn't egotistical enough to think that he has all the answers is all.
"I mean, you take a couple isolated famines..." is my favorite new phrase.
"Don't you think that Hitler was maybe not the most ethical ruler??"
"I mean, you have a couple of isolated loss of life incidents"
That's why I used AIDS as an analogy, Stalin didn't have the fields salted or withhold grain, but he let it happen.

Can i speak? Are you done? Or did you have more?
i am losing it
His eyebrow/eye movements are so off-putting
Aaron McDonald it’s like that one detective video game
Slade McBride La Noire?
@Humphrey Hogan are you okay buddy?
@@aaronmcdonald2877 the movement of his eyes and mouth don't match; indicating discomfort/dishonesty.
“Well I’m glad you agree, let’s move onto the next one”
How to win against destiny:
1: Don’t let him talk.
There’s a difference between not being allowed to talk and not really having much to say.
Caleb seems unnecessarily defensive. It comes across a smugness. This is an unfortunate thing because destiny is being very civil.
This guy seems like a closeted tankie
He has a video on his channel titled why you should be a tankie
Your a prophet
"This isn't strengthening your arguments." 56:46
I wish this guy didn't have access to a webcam...also, did anyone notice how many different drinks this guy has
As a person whose parents had to use tickets to get food from the stores under the USSR because there just wasn't enough food around, it is very frustrating to see someone try to explain how the USSR fixed our food problems. My country was doing more than fine before the communists came and conquered us. We literally didn't have enough food even in the late 80s because of them, the most basic necessity. All this while the west was prospering. When they left in the beginning of the 90s then my country was left in poverty and we are still trying to recover from that.
A) Yes
B) No
C) Sarcastic
D) Maybe later
Then the NPC says the exact same thing every single time.
Cant be obese if there isn't enough food 5head
bonus meme: destiny got tractors in this debate
grandabz tractors curtesy of the Soviet Union
Debate Jason Unruhe. That would be a debate for the ages.
Like a true commie; the longer this debate goes, the redder he gets.
"Soviets were a super power" - so is the USA. What kind of point is that.
The moderator fucked up big time.
He sounds like a nice guy but he let Caleb to do whatever he wants.
9 out of 10 times when moderation was required, the moderator didn't intervene.
If you watched the Vaush debate with Caleb, the mod was ineffectual there as well. Maybe its just the way this guy just steamrolls you with such an unwavering diatribe but I can't entirely blame the moderator for being flattened, especially since Vaush and Destiny both got kind overwhelmed too by so much gishgalloping and mind numbing rants.
Jesus. This guy just rambled on and on. Rhetoric aplenty no substance
It is scary how quickly it goes from the greater good to "I'm not sure if we should compensate these big companies, some places do, some places don't.".
Expropriation without compensation is a fancy turn of phrase for "large scale theft at gunpoint".
Destiny got Steve in this debate.
It's honestly pretty refreshing to see Steven debate someone who isn't a utopian leftist.
Destiny: "We're not having people in Kansas die because of a famine"
*Dust Bowl intensifies*
@ambidextrousfapper
So you claim the famines in Russia were not the cause of drought and crop failure.
Provide sources then you fuckhead. Because thats a historical revisionist
Destiny got slapped with pre written nonsense in this debate.
Except destiny could address the nonsense. Eighter destiny stupid or Maupin a genius
No joke. At the start, this guy's opening monologue clocked in at close to 4 minutes! Holy shit!
52:33
"this is so obscure"
"You take a couple isolated famines..."
That's a big YIKES from me.
The biggest YIKES I've ever had.
OMEGALUL.
I’ve never wanted to punch someone more
If it’s not more than five than it doesn’t count
@@ko6zap1 Just because so many believe X, you believe X, because you think is facty, that doesn't make it a fact by it self, facts are based on evidence, and not on how many people think what is fact or not. If you want to really know what really happend, I recommend you to read this from begging to end (in case you're not lazy).

Armando Vaiandando i that a tankie site?
"i agree with you destiny, thats one of my critiques a lot on the left. i think every socialist should be able to answer the question 'What would you do if you were the president.' they should have a real answer."
destiny asked a nearly identical question several times in the debate during the first quarter, and received the answer:
"that wouldnt be up to me. its whatever people vote on. it should be done in the most peaceful way. smart people should come together and think about it."
And what's wrong with that answer?
"I'd have to look at the specifics of literally any situation before I could commit to a course of action" is an amazing ideology, literally undefeatable.
I'm a socialist but listen to Maupin talk makes me love my CEO
