The Trigkey S5 Packs a LOT of Power in a SMALL Package

- The folks over at Trigkey reached out and asked me to take a look at their S5 Mini PC.
If I'm honest, the small size of the device surprised me. I expected a Mini PC, but this thing's small.
That said, it has:
Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics (8 cores/16 threads)
16GB of dual channel DDR4 SODIMM RAM
512GB NVMe M.2 drive
Space for an additional 2.5" drive for more storage.
I should mention that you can also upgrade the RAM to suit your needs!
I ran 3D Mark Time Spy on the S5 and was shocked by the results:
Time Spy Score: 1465
Graphics Score: 1288
CPU Score: 6640
The CPU and GPU temps stayed under 70°C until the CPU test and then barely touched 80°C.
I did some thermal imaging of the device while under load and the exhaust never got much over 60°C. The case was barely warm to the touch and, most surprisingly to me, I never heard the device's fans unless I put my ear right next to it.

Great piece of hardware. Looks like the perfect living room pc for me for streaming, retro games and addon for my tv .
I'm literally setting it up as a retro machine right now :)
@@DBTechYT can you please check moonlight streaming performance?
Seems like Moonlight would be more dependent on the host computer's capabilities and network speeds more than anything else
@@DBTechYT just bought one of these. (the 5800h 32gig ram version) for emulation. what is the cap for systems you are able to run smoothly?
I agree completely with you about the pull tab on the bottom cover. It’s a simple but very useful addition but also it shows thought in the design. If they do that right, they probably do more important stuff right too 👍. Great video as always 😊
Great video thanks. Recently bought a couple of these to use in my home lab Proxmox environment. Maxed the RAM out to 64GB. Runs like a dream
Looks nearly identical to the Beelink units ive been using at work lately. Right down to the rubber pads on the bottom and the loop on that side of the case.
Trigkey and beelink is the same factory , you can see that in the box of each one.
I am hearing that the Trigkey has Mediatek drivers. I know which I would go for if this is true and that would be the Beelink.
I bought one - with 32GB RAM, otherwise the same - before I saw this video, after spending a couple of days looking at the options. Very happy with it! Seems to hit a sweet spot of decent performance without breaking the bank. I'm even using it for development.
Looks like a VERY solid option for the price. If it were me I would probably max out the RAM and turn it into a Proxmox host. Possibly do that with a trio of them and set up a quorum to test high availability not only with Proxmox but even docker swarm, kubernetes, business applications, etc. because i'd be able to simulate failovers in hardware, realtime.
Also I like the early Saturday afternoon live stream thing. I work on saturdays but work from home that day and while i'm stuck at my PC for availability purposes I typically have some downtime so it's optimal for me to catch a stream at that time.
Really glad you were able to make it to the stream!! Definitely working on more stuff for upcoming streams :)
@@DBTechYTAs long as i'm not buried at work i'll be attending!
I got one of these for my girlfriend for her office and light photo editing needs. No reason why I wouldn't go for the 32gb ram option as it actually worked out cheaper than the 16 after the Amazon voucher lol plus this was she's future proofed .
Absolute little monster, couldn't tell I was setting up a sub £300 computer, absolutely the same performance on normal windows stuff as my custom mini itx gaming machine lol
awesome video too man, great stuff.
Thanks!! Glad you like the device! I also just put 32GB of RAM in it with no issues. You've got great timing on your comment. I'm actually deploying Proxmox 8 on this device right now to reconfigure my setup a bit :)
Great setup, where did you get it from below £300?
Thnx; Decent hardware, good attention to detail and affordable. What more can you ask for!
im glad you are exploring new content, but you did ask for feedback and in my opinion, I did enjoy the new or unique docker container videos much more than these hardware reviews. Just an opinion. I can find other videos for new containers im sure. I appreciate your effort as it is good to know about low-power solutions as well.
I appreciate that. I've got new docker container videos coming. Have just been going through a rough patch mentally and haven't been able to get into docker containers lately
@@DBTechYT I completely get that and did watch the video describing your ongoings/recent difficulties almost as soon as you posted it. I was very impressed with how honest and real you are with us. It is appreciated for sure. I also believe you will pull through any challenge you face. These new videos are proof of that already. No worries about docker videos, i just wanted to give some honest feedback in the most positive way possible. You do you and what makes you happy. I will continue to subscribe and click the thumbs up to hassle the algorithm. :D
I picked up one of these up last week as a PC replacement, needed to downsize.
The model I got has the 5800U and 32GB ram, everything else looks the same, I added a corsair 2.5" ssd. What an absolute beast this thing is with such a small footprint. I've attached it to the back of my monitor so it's basically disappeared.
i got one of these for 300gbp like 6 months ago. I use it as a proxmox server. great performance and idle power draw.
Hello there where did you get it from below £300 ?
bought this Trigkey mini pc last week - Ryzen 7 5800H, 32G DDR4, 1TB SSD , Windows11 so far I am loving it, it is very fast, very quiet I hope it will last for another 3years
how is it so far?
wow great review, just picked one up! thank you! looking for a basic portable gaming rig, and retro emulation box for the loungeroom
Have fun!
Is the trigkey s5 better as the beelink eqr6 with 7735hs cpu for light gaming.
but can it run proxmox ? 😅
Can you do a video about opencanary on docker?
Can you use the front USB-C to power it or is it only the DC jack?
I believe it's only the DC jack on the back. I've never tired to power it from the front
What size is the barrel on the power adapter?
is there a way to improve cooling? After upgrading storage i noticed faster increasing temperature.
Did you make sure that the fan under the storage is running? Make sure that all the wires are plugged in so that fan runs.
@@DBTechYT yes, fan is running. But the additional storage seems to bee in the way. I think will go with external fans placed on the case.
That's interesting. I'm using the same device with an SSD in it and my temps seem to be fine. But I'm sure we're doing different things with our setups. I hope you find a solution for yours :)
something like beelink PC
Yeah. A lot of these are all manufactured in the same place and then a different sticker is placed on each one based on the brand who ordered it.
@@DBTechYTwich is better, Ser5max or S5PRO?
which adapter does it have, looking to see if it works with proxmox
I'm currently using it for Proxmox. "Which adapter" is vague... power adapter? Network adapter? To which adapter are you referring?
@@DBTechYT Apologies i was not more specific, network adapter. i had issues with realtek ones with vmware before and i have a prodesk which has a reltek but had issues with proxmox beofe
Okay. Yeah. The onboard network controller (1GbE RJ45) works fine on my proxmox setup and it's been running for months now
