    I love it when you are talking and seem to change your mind about what you want to say and so you just restart the sentence. It is so charming and I just adore your personality. You are so smart and funny and sweet and seem to be such a well-rounded person. I LOVE DR.DRAY! You are the lady that all little girls should aspire to be like. You're just wonderful.

    Thanks for telling us your experience with acne. I think my breakouts were similar to yours. I'm in my 50's, so I'm not sure if that Neutrogena Acne face wash was around in the late 70's and 80's. I did try everything in the drugstore, with no success. I remember that the Covergirl foundation gave me those hard bumps on my chin, but didn't realize that I was sensitive to all fragrance. I never had stinging or red rashes, and didn't connect the breakouts with the sensitivity. I did have success with a dermatologist when I was 30, and she prescribed something called Benzac and Cleocin. It worked great for five years, then stopped working. My insurance changed, and I had to go to a GP instead. He prescribed Accutane pills, which I hated and didn't work. Also told me that he called those chin breakouts "big hummers." Thanks doc! Shortly after that in the mid-90's, I discovered Paula Begoun's book, Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me. This was before she started her company, Paula's Choice. She was called the Cosmetics Cop back then, because she researched the ingredients, then wrote articles and eventually a series of books. She wrote on how these products could not do what they promised in their advertising, based on the research. I think her skin was similar to mine, very oily with a sensitivity to fragrance. I found her book with product reviews to be really helpful, and finally started getting a handle on what was making my breakouts worse. My acne was subsiding by my mid-30's, but I still had some issues. After she started Paula's Choice, I bought her 2% BHA, followed her suggestions for cleansers, and was able to completely clear up my skin. She sold her company in 2012, and I don't feel the Beautypedia reviews are as trustworthy as they were back then. But I swear if I ever met her, I'd kiss her feet, lol. It's also why I appreciate your videos, you reference the research. Anyway, I realize I always write a book in these comment sections!

      Thank you so much for sharing here in the comments...I like it! I do like Paula's Choice...i discovered it here on UA-cam awhile back through Melissa's channel (I love faces). I only tried the tinted sunscreen, to see if it was like my eltaMD, and i really was very happy with it and probably would repurchase again. I remember her book though, long before I ever heard of the product line...I think she was on oprah back then too. Hope you had a great day and are having a relaxing night :)

    I think that it is wonderful that you demonstrate on-camera how to apply things - especially the Differin (pea sized) and sunscreen (like a face mask). It is hard for folks to know how to do so just based on the product labelling. I myself was applying far too little sunscreen and way too much retinoid (I use tretinoin, but instructions are the same) - and have altered my methods. You are terrific! And hey - I saw in the LLBean catalog today that they too are getting into sunscreen-clothing. Their offerings are not nearly as stylish as the Coolibar, though! Have a great night!

      Thank you so much! YEah I was looking at the LLBean offerings, but was a bit disappointed in the selection. Coolibar is the only company i can find that offers more everyday clothing (not just poolside) options. Hope you had a fab day!

    Thanks a lot for sharing your personal story about your acne journey. I would like to share that adapalene has helped my acne problems as well. I followed all your videos about how to apply the gel so that I had really minimal irritation. Thanks to you, adapalene and sunscreen are two musts in my daily routine. However exhausted and busy I am, I will put on sunscreen in the morning and adapalene at night.
    I am certain your videos have helped many others like me. I have shared your tips with my friends with other skin problems like rosacea and ezcema. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! Have a great day :)

    Hi Dr. Dray! I came across one of your videos about two months ago and became an instant fan. Thank you for all your awesome tips and for letting us in in your personal daily routine. I want to say I own about 80%-90% of the products you have recommended in your videos 😅 and I have noticed significant improvement in my acne. I had a question, my acne has improved now on 5th week of using Differin gel! I have some red acne scars though. I recently started using the Aveeno positively radiant intensive night cream. Would you recommend using them at the same time?

    Thank you for sharing your acne story with us Dr Dray.
    My mom is going through a rough time with her skin due to menopause and was scared to use any moisturizer because so many were too rich and irritating for her. I bought her the Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture for Sensitive Skin that you use and so far she really likes it :) Thank you so much for that recommendation!
    I have a question for you...You use the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream in the AM and PM. When I look online, I see Neutrogena makes two formulations of that product - a water gel and a gel-cream. I want to start using a product with hyaluronic acid but I don't know which formulation would be better for my oily, acne prone skin. Any suggestions?

    • @mcpay480
      @mcpay480 7 років тому +2

      Ariel Cushnie I have both versions of the HydroBoost. The gel one is does have a light fragrance. The gel-cream is fragrance-free and slightly mositurizing, I guess, but both are gel and super light. I know Dr. Dray uses the gel-cream one. I love both and the fragrance doesn't bother me and goes away immediately. Neither leave a sticky feeling at all :)

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 років тому +1

      Thanks so much and I am so happy to hear that your mom found a moisturizer that so far is helpful. As far as the hydroboost...bear in mind that neutrogena, like all cosmetics companies, has a duty to make $$, so they try and come up with as many versions as possible to sell more things. I only use the gel cream version, twice a day, because as M Cpay points out, that one does not have fragrance in it. I like it and it is fine for oily skin. In fact, keeping the skin hydrated helps the skin relax a bit as far as trying to over do it on oil production.

    • @Cushniemonster22

    Hi, dr. Dray, always trying to keep up with your new videos ! Always getting to learn new things ! Gotta question: I just started using differin gel as your direction . Be careful...it may increase your susceptibility to irritation from the bleaching cream. Try a test patch of the bleach cream a few times to make sure.

    Hi Dr Dray,
    I just came across your channel this weekend and love your content. I am in my late 40's and have been really conscious of my skin care routine. I have been using a lot of the CeraVe products and love them! My skin was very bi polar in that I was experiencing constant breakouts such as cystic acne. I have a question though... my daughter is 16 and has been having cystic breakouts. I'm pretty sure its hormones and stress from her work load at school. She has been using the cetaphil oil control foam wash along with the neutrogena stress control toner. I think I may need to switch up. Do you suggest the neutrogena face wash that you use? I also just recently purchased diffrin and she has been putting that on her cysts and it really does help. I don't want to take her to the dermatologist just yet as I'm pretty sure once school is over her face will clear up. I guess I'm asking for preventive measures what would you suggest. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.😊

    I have 3 options I'm considering, there are 2 that are 10000mcg, 365 tabs and one has coconut oil in it, or theres the 5000mcg, 90 tablets which melts on your tongue and is strawberry flavoured haha. Which would you purchase? :)

    Since turning 30, I've been struggling with both hormonal cystic acne and dry/flaky spots for the past two years. It will clear up mostly for a little bit, and I'm lucky I don't have the deep pitting many with cystic acne get, but I'm ghostly pale so I do still get discoloration/minor scarring that sticks out horrible against my super pale skin. It's so frustrating acne face washes are too drying and harsh for the rest of my face and make my cheeks and forehead peel/flake. Both my family doctor and my gyno pretty much told me that birth control is the only solution and I just don't want to accept that. I really really want to avoid taking that again, due to a variety of reasons. I'm going to check out your differin video and see about picking some up to try, but do you have any other suggestions on dealing with cystic acne? Is that even something I can hope to manage on my own? Thanks for putting out great content!

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 років тому +1

      Differin is unlikely to be helpful on its own for hormonal acne. OCPs and spironolactone are systemic medications frequently needed to control this condition

    I think the Neutrogena pore care is too expensive in India because it is shipped from American with added duties. I want to know if over the counter facewashes from brands like Galderma etc would work just as well with the active ingredient being 4% Benzoyl peroxide. Lesser % is not available. Same goes for spot treatment for which I use Benzac AC 2.5% and a Cetaphil for moisturising my face. I basically follow your dry skin acne routine with inexpensive products because Aveeno and Cerave are not available over the counter and hence too expensive.

    I was prescribed tetracycline in my teenage years and I couldnt take it long (because it wasn't recommended) years later I read research that because that use of that antibiotic will hurt ones ability to fight acne bacteria naturally later on. Is that true ?

    What about tanning beds for eczema? I have it pretty bad on my legs. I don't tolerate the sun or tanning beds very well. When it is horrible, I do 2-3 minutes tops in a bed, but it seems to help. I heard dermatologist use some form of bed to treat eczema. Thoughts? The sun and I have an agreement to not ever see each other and it will not burn me. I got 2nd degree sunburns and sun poison on my honeymoon on a ten minute ferry ride. That's how sensitive I am. I have so much scarring on my shoulders from it.
    Also, what made you go into dermatology? Here in Kansas, our largest city only has a small handful (maybe 4?). At one point we only had 2. It seems you guys are beginning to be the unicorns of medical specialties.

    Could you talk a little about HS? It's a condition I struggle with especially on my upper, inner thighs. It's so very painful and I'm wondering what you would recommend as a treatment option. Is there anything that can help with this painful condition?

    When you mixed it with Differin Adapalene, how do you mix it? Differin for whole face?

    Omgosh I detest going into Home Depot and Lowe’s as well. Yuck! Those places are so toxic! My skin insta try absorbs the dreadful combination of chemicals there. 🙄🙄
    I have that same lunch bag too as well as the shower curtain as I mentioned! We have great taste. 💜💖

    Dr. Dray, what are your thoughts on curology? It's an online service system with dermatologists who can prescribe topical treatment containing azelaic acid, tretinoin and such. Also, if I am already using a trentinoin topical treatment that has azeliac acid and clindamycin, do you think it would be too harsh on the skin to be using differin as well? I'm curious as I still have a wicked breakout that goes away and pops back up on my chin even though I've been on spironolactone for the last couple of months.

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 років тому

      I like the idea of people having an accessible option to get evaluation and management. Teledermatology is pretty well studied for acne. Not sure what their associated costs are and if they take insurance. No need to add differin to tretinoin, unless your provider has instructed you to do so.

    Just love your channel, you are so down to earth and helpful. My daughter is 20 she has excessive oil production in her hands and had this since being a small child. She has been to GP on many occasions with no success, someone did mention botox works for this. Would you be able to give any advice. Thanks 😍

    question does it take people of darker complexion longer to rid dark spots and acne scars?😺

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 років тому

      Yes this is true. Sun screen and sun protection is really an important part of preventing this...though with time it often improves slowly.

    You make tofu look so appetizing (carnivore here :)! Is a place of occasional breakouts tell anything about type of acne? I seem to get occasional pimples around my jaw line or cheeks, it seems like it is the same area all the time. Started using differin as well but so far I am not seeing much of results.

    • @DrDrayzday

      Love tofu! Best to see a dermatologist and/or your health care provider for evaluation of the skin lesions, as they could be a variety of things other than acne

    Dr Dray, do you think that topical zit treatments involving lemon can help ? For example a cinnamon and lemon paste?

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 років тому +5

      No, this is a bad idea. Lemon and citrus juices contain compounds that, when put on the skin and exposed to light, cause damage to the skin cells and possible a severe rash that can heal with a dark mark. Likewise, cinnamon is incredibly irritating on the skin.

    I bought from my dermatologist a moisturizing cream with .05 tretinoin, hyaluronic acid and 4% niacinimide. It’s to help with facial lines, but acne too. My skin is feeling dry. I’m not sure if it’s from my 2% salicylic acid toner used on opposite days or the retinoid cream. Should I moisturize before the retnoid cream or after??? Does it matter??

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 років тому

      likely the SA toner...moisturizing before putting it on can decrease irritation, just make sure the moiturizer dries first before putting on the toner
