  • I FINALLY got around to building the Showcase Miniatures signal kits that I've had for almost 2 years. In this video, I show off the the new signals and then show you an overview of the whole signaled mainline and dispatcher's screen.
    Signals can be purchased here: www.showcaseminiatures.net/ho...
    The signals I made use the following parts:
    - Ground Mast Assembly #2
    - Multi-Aspect Color-Light Signal Head
    - US&S type Junction Box Base
    - D-Type Color Light LED Assembly
    Chapters:
    0:00 New signals
    4:30 Signals overview
    9:32 Dispatching screen overview

    Very impressive work. As someone who has been working on a custom ABS signaling setup for over a year now, I can appreciate the work.

      Thank you! You certainly know it's a lot of work, and I'm just using off-the-shelf Digitrax products to control my signals.

    7:50 Don't forget to get some simulated number plates on that intermediate signal. For modern BNSF practice, that intermediate signal should be double-headed (RYG, RYG) in at least one direction for the siding at the next signal.

    Love the signals. I've built a couple Showcase signals and love them. Modelling the GN, I've found that Details West 938 and 941 signals match the prototype pretty well, all pre-built.

    They are GRS Style D colorlight signals. If you pay close attention there are still a lot of them around. I can count at least 15 on the BNSF Hastings subdivision and many many more between Lincoln and Donkey Creek, thats just BNSF in Nebraska, I don't know about Montana but I assume some are still around there as well. Those things look friggin heavy😂
    The Atlas/BLMA signals are supposed to be Saftran CLS-20s but they are so far out of scale I can't stand looking ar them, compared to the Showcase signals the Atlas look like toys. The CLS-20 is the new go-to for class 1 railroads... kind of sad to see classic robust railroad signals be replaced by the new cheap chinese crap, poorly cast thin alluminum with poor quality LED arrays being driven too hard just to save a few dollars in production.
    Layout is looking great, keep up the good work!

    Great work, so fine and I'd bet threading the wiring through is a bit fine. I like the dimmer look rather than the over bright leds on some of the show layouts in the UK. I'm dying to make a start on mine and as I've said before I envy the space you have.

    Great video love all the extra detail along with the signals who make the solar panels and the rail greasers details are they homemade or commercial kits

    • @railfan220
      @railfan220  6 місяців тому

      Thanks! The solar panel is from the Walthers "Modern Trackside Detail Set." It's a pretty large solar panel, which is somewhat appropriate for an example I saw around the area I'm modeling. However, I think flange greasers typically have a smaller solar panel setup, so the panels included in Walthers' "Intermodal Yard Details Kit" might be more appropriate.

    @ 1:00... a true test of the quality of anyones' finished scenery... remove all the locos and rolling stock and just let the scenery stand all on it's own... this *PASSES* the test...
    also @ 7:05...in real life, that tail track switch would be tied to the signals... so if it is open, that signal would be red... the dispatcher would be able to give the line up but NOT a clear signal... if allowed to pass the red signal you'd be governed by RULE 9.11(movement from signal requiring restricted speed)- "when a train passes a signal requiring movement at restricted speed, the train must move at restricted speed until its leading wheels have passed the next governing signal or the end of the block system"

    • @railfan220
      @railfan220  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for the kind words and wisdom! Would this rule be applicable too because it's CTC until past the signal?
      Rule 9.12.1 Stop indication in CTC Territory: “After stopping, (train) at (location) has authority to pass signal displaying Stop indication,” specifying the route where applicable."
