Thank you! I use 'invisible' elasticated thread, which bonds very easily with superglue! The big advantage is that it stretches, so if touched accidentally it won't break. It can also be stretched quite thinly, which is good for 1/72 scale models.. Finally it can also be painted, without losing the ability to stretch.. :) Brilliant stuff.. :)
@ColaWhiski Thank you.. My models are far from brilliant, but I build for my own bit of fun.. not to win competitions!! :) :) So from that point of view I'm quite happy with them.. :)
@VVojtekSoldierBear Thank you.. I will try and do a few more bombers.. :) When I have cleared some more space by my workstation I should get going on the Short Stirling.. but it will be BIG.. :)
Thank you.. Had it not been too late I may have entered it in your competition.. not that it would have done any better than the tank, but all the same.. :) I always try new things, if there's anything new to be tried.. :) :) And as long as it is in any way beneficial to the build.. :)
That's exactly what I did... when I wasn't taping the planes to my bicycle handle so I could cycle with them, watching the propeller spin.. I used to build endless Airfix 1/72 P-40 Kittyhawks, just gluing them together.. great fun! If anything it's probably the kit I have built the most!! One day I will get nostalgic and build another one! Trouble is, things have moved on.. and the Academy kits are so much better. :) But nothing beats the carefree modelling of yester years.. sigh.. wipes tear..
+Cabilis66 Thank you.. :) Whilst on the topic of old kits, I'll probably tackle the old Airfix 1/72 Handley Page Hampden next, even though it will be in the Bilek boxing, as I want to make it as a Russian version.. :) Looking forward to the challenge.. :)
Thank you very much.. :) :) The fact that the kit is old and full of raised panel lines and rivets actually helped in this case.. :) But I wouldn't have missed a more modern kit, to be honest.. :)
Well, the wheels are well front of the center of gravity, so I always knew it would take a lot of weight.. but even I was surprised! Now I need to go back to the tackleshop and get some more weights.. :) Thank you.. :)
loved that old footage to get into the mood of this model for me brought back the memories of the old decal's used by airfix, yes I am a old guy on the teen networks of the tube. for some reason I remember warm water was the trick with removing those pesky airfix decals, I do remember ripping so many. I was only 4 years old...lol
WOW!!! Fantastic work bro, looks so realistic as the real thing!! The kit does look ancient, but with your special touches to it, you built it very well!! That is so cool, peace!!!
god i dont know how you do it, im crap with paintbrushes and models you always get them looking really reasonable. im an airbrush guy a cheat maybe anyway as aalways keep the vids coming i love watching them
@Legoreviewer98 Flash is plastic that has leaked around the parts when the plastic was injected into the mould, due to the mould being old and worn.. It can be tricky to remove sometimes, but if you don't remove it the parts won't fit or look right.. You will find it mainly on re-releases of old kits and not so much on any newly tooled kits..
It's always worth checking the balance before gluing the fuselage together, as it's normally too late to add any extra weights once everything is glued in place!! I was lucky I could fit some extra weights behind the engines, though, as I still needed some... :)
Ahoy Rob Hardy Well done on the Boston bomber the build is Superb you done a masterful job on her. I use to have one of these many years ago 1963, don't know what ever happened to it. But the kit and the build brings back memories Again great video and a superb final reveal you the man buddy. Frankie Day
@2002And Yes, this kit needs a LOT of weights.. :) The decals are troublesome, but if you want to you can have my spare set.. that will increase your chances! If not, then there's always after market decals... :) I can't remember if I used the sander or not.. but yes, the model turned out acceptable in the end.. it is one of my favourites... :)
No, I don't put anything much on the ends, it's tricky enough to get it right as it is.. but a guess a blob of superglue would do the trick for an insolator.. :)
You certainly haven't missed much by not buying this kit.. :) Glad you liked my brushwork, I am reasonably pleased with it myself, if I may say so.. :)
I was going to do that, after I had painted it the first time, and saw just how bad it looked.. but I tried the winter camo and it covers up the worse of the bad bits, so I left it as was. But I agree, and had I built it for anyone else but myself I would have done a lot more work to it, like scratchbuilding some of the interior and putting some figures in to fill up the void! I guess it's not technically too late to rectify the movable control surfaces, should I feel the need to do so! :)
Yes, they are a bit out of scale.. a 1/72 model should really have very little in the way of panel lines and rivets, if any at all.. they're really only there to be pleasing to the eye and to allow some weathering et.c to be done.. but if you have seen my Airfix Blenheim video, you'll know that the model looks so much better if the rivets are sanded down, or removed altogether!.. :) Got started on my next Spitfire but not sure when I can complete it.. soon I hope! :)
I think the standard procedure was to send up a Draken or Viggen fighter plane, take some photos as evidence and log another formal complaint at the British Embassy.. :) :)
@BasicModelling I'll bet!... :) I'll try the kit decals first, but thanks for the back-up plan.. :) :) I hope I'll do OK with this kit, because it is one of my favorite Light bombers too.. :)
@Aerolseventh It is an autogyro, or gyrocopter.. There are a few different designs, but they all basically work in the same way, with an auto rotation (not powered) rotor / wing on top and a push (or pull) propeller at the back (or front).. The autogyros can't hover like a helicopter, and they do need a runway as they can't take of or land vertically, so in effect they are more like aeroplanes than helicopters.. but they are safer to fly than planes, because of the autorotation.. :)
@DuhMulti Nope.. I build military vehicles and tanks, the odd car and sometimes ships and submarines.. but my main interest lies with the aircraft, be it planes or helicopters! I'm going to try a figure before too long too, got the kit.. just haven't got the time.. :) Too many other projects on the go..
@lkj802 I have started a B-17, but it needs a total repaint and sorting out, which is why it is delayed.. I will build a 1/72 Lancaster in July when I'm on holiday and can put a lot of time aside for modelling.. I have built a B-24 Liberator in 1/72 scale only recently, that video should be easy to find on my channel.. I also hope to build 1 or 2 B-25's, and a Halifax.. as well as maybe a German bomber or two.. The builds will be spread out over the rest of this year, most likely.. :)
I think there's quite a few of various versions left.. mainly in Australia, it seems.. There's about 3 or 4 or more in the US, some on display and some being restored. Also, they keep finding crashed WWII Bostons in Russia still, so the numbers are on the up! :) The former Soviet Union is a great source of many aircraft, as they used so many US & British types during WWII, as well as their own.. not to mention all the wrecked Luftwaffe planes that turn up here and there.. :)
@lkj802 I'd use a secure hook, as you may want to remove the model from time to time and dust it.. but yes, fishing line is strong and should work well,, :)
Well, it has puzzled me , and many others a great deal.. they spent the time and effort adding all that whitewash.. and then left the great big red stars.. But I guess overall the camo must have worked... :) :)
@ModelbuildingTANKS Good... I find tanks easier, generally, than planes.. that's why I did the T-55, to get a break from the plane I was doing, and finish something quick.. :)
Ok, fair enough.. I don't think I put any over the red stars, and if I did it was only to show a bit of wear and tear.. the quality of the paint at the time was such that the planes never stayed white for very long when used in the cold war winters.. I have periods off UA-cam, and sadly they no longer offer the service they used to do, when all videos ever posted by your subs showed up and you could go back for weeks to watch anything you had missed.. Now you only get a handful of videos.. :(
Well, this is very much a WWII aircraft.. not sure what use it saw after the war, if any. By then things were moving swiftly forward, and into the jet age, which means that a lot of really interesting piston engined aircraft never got the chance to prove themselves, or to get the credit the rightfully should have had! That aside, this is a VERY old kit, but it was a fun build, and I'm quite pleased with the outcome.. :) :)
I won't put that plane in a diorama, but I will do a winter diorama later on with either a T-34-85 tank, or an IL-2 Sturmovik.. or both.. :) :) Quite like the idea of an Sherman ion wintercamo too.. :)
I hope to get a nice kit of the Havoc at some point, it would make a nice contrast to this one, I think.. :) :) I have always wanted to do a plane in winter camo, and now I finally have.. Gave me a chance to use up some decals from the spares box, as well.. and that's never a bad thing!! :)
Snow drift? The French flew it, initially in RAF markings but after D-Day they were allowed to fly them in French colours.. The beard is all year round, but bigger in winter, and it really makes a difference for keeping warm!! :) As for the Havoc, I'd love to get a kit, as I have a thing about Night Fighters too.. :)
I would have loved to have used a resin cockpit set, but I couldn't find any.. there's probably none made!! :) At least it goes to show these old kits still build a nice model.. :)
I remember the Nimrod from my Air Force days.. constanly flying over Swedish territorial waters.. the RAF was more of a pain than the Soviets at the time, to be honest!! A great plane, a model of which will keep you busy for quite a while.. I hope you have plenty of filler... :) :)
Selling it on was probably the best option!! :) I could have done an even better job of this, scratchbuiling and so on.. but it didn't turn out too bad in the end! And the decal strips saved the canopy and nose, there's no way I could have painted those lines on.. :) :)
Well, I rarely use the original Airfix decals anyway, as 'after market' stuff normally is better.. :) But I do have a real liking for most of the old Airfix kits.. quite nostalgic these days!! :)
Really like that model...has a look that sort of links modern aircraft and those of the WWII. I'm probably talking rubbish though, as I'm no expert...I'll stick to my model railway :-) Great Review once again chap Tom
Very nice I need to work on my washing and weather, I just completed a B-25 and it looks like it just rolled of the factory floor. My next kit I plan to add some age to it. Very nice video I liked the video clip at the beginning.
Hmm, ok. This is one of the Airfix kits i never laid my hands on. I did build the Revell/Matchbox P-70 kit a long long time ago. Today i have 2-3 MPM Boston kits in my stash. I think your russian camo came out really nice. Not gonna argue on that paintjob ;-)
I think the Russians may have used the stars on top of any 'lend / lease' aircraft they got delivered from the Americans or British.. Most if not all Russian Hurricanes, Spitfires, Thunderbolts and Airacobras I have built have had the stars on the upper wings. None of the Russian own makes have had stars there, only on the undersurface.. :)
I have a few of these, by Ertl, in 1/48th. They are notorious tail sitters. Since you don't actually "use" the movable control surfaces, i wonder if you though of modifying them to sit better in their designated areas? A scale 1 foot gap on the elevators and ailerons is a bit startling!

The figures would still have filled up the cockpits and other areas nicely, though.. As for the music, I thought I'd trick you, by starting of with the Stars'n'Stripes... :) :)
Thank you.. Glad you enjoyed it!! :)
Thank you my hero =)
Thank you.. I am quite pleased with it.. :) :)

+Rob BasicModelling Looking forward to seeing the vid :-)
Glad you enjoyed my effort... :) Thank you from Britain... even though I'm Swedish.. :)
I got one in the stash and you gave me the inspiration to do it up like this!
Thank you very much.. :) :) The fact that the kit is old and full of raised panel lines and rivets actually helped in this case.. :)
But I wouldn't have missed a more modern kit, to be honest.. :)
Sure does!! I like it when an experiment turns out quite well.. :) :)
this is so simmilar to the b25 like the way it is put together and also the way the wheels are and also the tailsitting part
As usual, another successful build and I like what you did with the white paint
Thank you.. I enjoyed the build overall, even if the kit is very very old... ! I'm quite pleased with the camo.. :)
Well, the wheels are well front of the center of gravity, so I always knew it would take a lot of weight.. but even I was surprised! Now I need to go back to the tackleshop and get some more weights.. :) Thank you.. :)

I realize I am kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good site to stream newly released series online ?
Thanks for the review - it was quite helpful for deciding whether to buy or not !

Thank you.. I like winter camo, but this is the first time I've actually made a plane in such a scheme.. :0)
Stars & Stripes forever?? :) Coming from a man of your artistic talent I take this as a huge compliment.. Thank you.. :)
nice video with appropriate music - Your models are fantastic ...
It does look good in winter camo...
@2002And Yes, this kit needs a LOT of weights.. :) The decals are troublesome, but if you want to you can have my spare set.. that will increase your chances! @ModelbuildingTANKS Yes, I remember them well.. :)
You can still buy those little engines, I got one back in the summer, which I'm thinking of using in a 1/48 scale aircraft at some point.. :)
Just hope I can get it done before my hospital stay.. if not it will be posted a bit later I guess! :)
The camo makes it even more weathered
@Aerolseventh It is an autogyro, or gyrocopter.. @DuhMulti Nope.. I build military vehicles and tanks, the odd car and sometimes ships and submarines.. but my main interest lies with the aircraft, be it planes or helicopters! @GoodwoodAlpha I use my little mini-drill (with various attachments) when I have no other options.. :) :)
@ModelbuildingTANKS Good... I find tanks easier, generally, than planes.. that's why I did the T-55, to get a break from the plane I was doing, and finish something quick.. :)
Good good.. I had great fun as usual, building this.. always nice to try something new, and I sure will make more snow camo'ed aircraft.. :)
Thank you.. I saw your B-25 video earlier and you did a good job.. :) :)
Ok, fair enough.. I don't think I put any over the red stars, and if I did it was only to show a bit of wear and tear.. the quality of the paint at the time was such that the planes never stayed white for very long when used in the cold war winters.. And that song will drone in my head tonight for sure.
Snow drift? The French flew it, initially in RAF markings but after D-Day they were allowed to fly them in French colours..

Greetings, Ferd.
@buidseach Yes, it is a bit tail heavy, to say the least... :) :)

My internet is being a pain right now, but I will try and watch your lovely boston video tommorrow :)
Better than a comfy chair... :) :)
Sorry for late reply.. Yes, I have built Finnish aircraft, both with and without the Finnish swastika..
You're welcome.. :)
@thehjupo The Boston was classed as a medium bomber, I think.. The Lanc is definetely a HEAVY... :)
Kewl looking craft... Do you know if there are any left?
it always works (rubs hands together with vigor and shrieks with obvious pleasure) :)
I think the Russians may have used the stars on top of any 'lend / lease' aircraft they got delivered from the Americans or British.. Most if not all Russian Hurricanes, Spitfires, Thunderbolts and Airacobras I have built have had the stars on the upper wings. @buidseach If I remember corectly, you get to chose between a US version, South African and British?? But I may be wrong.. :)
Well done, it's in the post!! :) :)
Well, the winter camo helped covering up some of the worst bits.. :) I hope you won't bin yours, it'll look good when done, I'm sure... :) :)
@Giselle76502 Good idea... never waste decals left over, as they may be handy for something else.. :)
Speaking of Russians, it was always interesting to see what they werre up to, especially when they did combined Navy & Air Force exercises in the Baltic sea.. Let me just say that 'chaff' works well in blocking radars, but there are easy ways around it.. :)
You do amazing work:)
That was the general idea... :)
the latest revell model is great. but the simplicity of this model encourages it be assembled. when i first bought it [on release 50 odd years ago!], it differed from older airfix bombers in that it had no open bomb bay or moving control surfaces, which i recall was a disappointment to me then. clunky and rivet encrusted. a kit of its time.
i nearly pulled my model from the stash after watching this!
keep up the good work.
@0h4yd3n0 Squadron White putty... it's the fine grade.. :)
I had this kit in my stash but it was so bad that I decided to sell it on! nevertheless you've made a great job of it , good to see some other decal options too!
super but if the plane is on the ground, you don't need crew sitting inside...your music is great so all is brilliant.:)
that is a nice one!
Airfix prices does not always reflect the quality of their kits... :) :)
This model isn't bad ;) I will building some models soon.
@lapispinoza yes but the kit is still not bad!
The figures would still have filled up the cockpits and other areas nicely, though.. As for the music, I thought I'd trick you, by starting of with the Stars'n'Stripes... :) :)
