    Your videos are excellent. Thanks. Being a Southsider born in Cathcart and lived in Newlands myself, I passed over the White Cart at least twice every day. It was David Norwich a rod maker at Eglington Toll who taught me to fish the Cart at the back of Weir’s. Saved me a lot of travelling in my teenaged years. Fishing for me now is the monster fish in Thailand, but I would love a days plugging for pike in its place

      Thanks Alan, great to hear from a fellow Southsider! I must admit I’ve barely given it a second glance since we moved here but its been a life saver with the travel restrictions and I’m really excited to properly explore the river next season. I know David Norwich from UA-cam but didn’t realise he was a local too. Thailand must be a lot of fun! I spent a few months there after uni and did a bit of saltwater fishing. Lost a marlin off the coast of Koh Tao that haunts me to this day!!

      @@SouthsideFlyFishing lucky you to at least hook a marlin. I have tried on many occasions worldwide but on all, turned out to be an expensive boat trip😀 I will need to search out David on UA-cam. He showed me the dear hair dry fly, which is all I ever used. Thailand is great for the carp fishers, who’s want massive fish with heavy tackle. I think I have a go for snakehead and barramundi on the fly soon.

    It is still my life's ambition to catch a trout or salmon on the river cart. I grew up playing in what we called the blue bell woods on the other side of the river to the Linn park. In the sixties and seventies there were only trout basically up stream from Busby and up beyond Eaglesham . Great to see that the pollution into the river has ceased and that the river is a healthy habitat for fish.

    • @SouthsideFlyFishing
      @SouthsideFlyFishing  3 роки тому

      Hi mate, there are still the odd pollution incidents, but nothing on the same scale as you might expect. The section opposite those woods is still quite productive for trout. Apparently you can see salmon navigating the falls in Linn Park in high water, late in the season. And I've seen sea trout leaping, again later in the season. I'd say a well-timed visit to the river later this month or into October might just see you realising that ambition! But the trout are abundant and the river usually fishes really well in April/May. Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟🎣

    Reminds me of where I started many, many years ago - Water of Leith in Edinburgh. No 2 lb-ers though. Twelve ounces was a good fish - and we kept them all above 8 inches; they were delicious fried in butter. I fish a Southern England chalk stream these days and all wild fish go back keeping only one or two stockies for the pan on a good day.

      Its hard to remember Sean - I fished a lot of the streams and rivers around Glasgow in those days, mostly the Allander in Milngavie, but also the Blane at Blanefield and the Kelvin north of the city. Also used to fish the Tweed at Peebles and the Allan Water upstream from Dunblane. These days I fish the upper Credit river west of Toronto and its a good stream also.

      I like your no fuss passion

      The one from the Devon is beautiful !
      Is it poss Ee have passed on the Gt Western Rd at Kelvinbridge.
      If not then you have a twin.
      But perhaps you have!
      I walk the Kelvin most days.
      Kelvingrove and Botanics.
      Wonderful urban setting.
      Lovely variety of water.
      Since I came back to Scotland last August the water has nearly always been chocolate.
      Had forgotten , almost, about our rain !
      Am looking for a fisher to walk the stretches with me.
      Social distancing naturally.
      Anyone out there?

    Love your content mate, this be my first proper season on the rivers this year and was wondering if you was using 2 or 3 nymphs and how long of leader did you have on bud?

    • @SouthsideFlyFishing
      @SouthsideFlyFishing  3 роки тому

      Thanks mate! Hope you enjoy the rivers this year 👍🏼👍🏼. You have to match the speed and depth of the pool but generally speaking if you’re using an indicator I’d start with 6-8 ft to the dropper and then 1-2 foot to the point. You might need to go longer and use heavier flies in deeper water and shorter in shallow water. But 6-8 feet is normally what I start with on the small/medium rivers I fish. And flies max for me. Any more and I find it’s tangle city 😂. Plus the amount of trees I hook, I’d be losing 3 flies a chuck instead of 2 😉😉. Tight lines bud

    • @SouthsideFlyFishing
      @SouthsideFlyFishing  3 роки тому

      Great stuff Anthony! Glad to hear you’ll be fishing it this year. All the usual flies should work. I normally fish perdigons, pheasant tails and red tags when there are no rising fish. And i did well last season fishing deer hair emerges and f flies during rises. I know other folk do well with spiders and even small streamers so you can’t really go wrong. Obviously try to match the food and be as stealthy as you can! Tight lines mate 👍🏼🎣🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
