This was super helpful! I wish my gym included those foot placement questions in their lead climbing test. I just started lead a few weeks ago and unfortunately yesterday I was doing exactly the wrong thing with the rope then fell as I was clipping and the slack tangled around my leg. I ended up hanging upside down from my ankle with the rope fully wrapped around it for several minutes, the staff had to climb up to untangle me. Walked away with just rope burn and a sprained ankle feeing like a total newb but I didn’t understand what I did wrong! But now I get it and know how to hopefully not have a repeat experience, it was a bit intense 😅
wow, I'm so sorry you had such an intense experience right away! Unfortunately, there's so much to teach at lead courses that it's hard for instructors to teach everything you really need to know.
Hope your sprained ankle recovers fast (do physio as soon as possible!) and that you'll be able to enjoy lead climbing asap!
