    You are saying Slåtterøy very nice, actually. Lovely soaps!

      I did practice, and I really do try to get the names right, I think it's the least you can do to show your respect for the brand and its local culture.

    Hi Michael- Great shave and soap review; thank you! The Fitjar soaps are quite nice. Sometime ago I ordered some of their samples and a full tub of their unscented cream, Holme. It is great. I also ordered the matching aftershave moisturizer and used it every day last winter until it was gone! The products themselves are great, if not fairly pricey. Add in shipping and a reorder of these products is really an expensive proposition, unfortunately. Luckily the shaving cream I have will last me a good while. Looking forward to your 2019 product re-cap. I would like to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday, Michael, and all the best as we head into 2020!

    • @mfreedberg

      Getting the full set shipped makes this a very pricey product, and, as good as the soap and especially the balm are, I am not sure I would choose to spend my money that way.
      All the best to you and yours in 2020!

    I'm in complete agreement with you, man. I've tried soaking/blooming my hard soaps and saw no difference than just starting with a damp brush.

      Even with that soap from the 50s, which had never been used -- zero issue just lathering it!

    Hi Michael. Have enjoyed them all, this one too. That soap was a real lather engine. Looking forward to the year in review. Happy holidays. Take care.

    Great shave Michael and Merry Christmas to you and your family. I'm still using a soap and brush along with my wet shave routine but I have since went back to the cartridge razors due to my sensitive skin more specifically the Gillette Skinguard cartridges. I'm up shave #8 on one cartridge. I have been applying Aqua Velva's 5 in 1 sensitive skin balm all week and that has helped out a lot with the dry skin.

      Skin quality comes first, no need to die on this hill :-)

    I think the secret with the ATG pass on chin area is not to stop the razor suddenly, or it will catch you. You explained it very well btw. Thanks.
    It is important to follow the curves of the face with the razor, but I think it needs shorter, more controlled and not long (Mauro Di Lernia) endless strokes.

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 років тому +2

      Thanks, and glad to hear that helped!
      Mauro loves those long strokes, but then again he has to shave the way his face makes him :-)

    Funny, I have a new polsilver that I used once or twice. I must have hit one side in the shower b.c. because only one of the sides is good now.
    It will hurt to trash that blade.

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 років тому +1

      Those blades cost money :-)

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 років тому +1

      Yeah, I would hate to toss one after a single shave, while they are cheap, they are not THAT cheap and a single shave only seems like a big waste to me too.

    Hey Michael, i am on your side here too, blooming is meaningless! I go with really soft brushes to really hard soaps and it works. Soaps are drying quicker too, so....
    Wish you a nice Christmas!
    Thank you for entertainment in 2019. Your videos are top notch, always a pleasure!!

    Nice review. But did you know that you are using a double edge razor.? You shaved only with one side and then you did rinse. Perhaps you did turn the razor around after rinsing.?
    👍

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  4 роки тому +2

      Indeed I do know that! Rest easy in the knowledge that I shave with one side, *rinse* the razor, and flip it over. I do not like shaving with one side all full of shaving cream and stubble, but that's just me!

    Great shave. Wow, that was some nice lather you built. As for the Bolzano blades, I bought one pack to try and was not impressed with the performance.

    I have just received 96 Derby Shaving Soap sticks and 58 Palmolive shave stick soaps from a friend who has closed his barber shop down, will it be ok in 40 years time or will these shave sticks go rancid and is derby got a better smell than Arko and does it perform better than Arko.

    Hi Michael, I heard you mentioned something about the Wilkinson Sword DE blades gave you an uncomfortable shave, was there one single blade that felt this way or many of them? I've used the Wilkinson Sword blades for years now, (the black and white package, German made), with my Merkur 34C which for me is a great combo. I shave with a blade 4 or 5 times and I've never really had any problems with it

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 років тому +1

      So, the *real* Wilkinson Sword blades, the German ones in the black package, are great and work well for me. These are the "Gillette Wilkinson Sword" blades made either in India (pretty good), or China (not good) - I think these were all the Chinese ones, and they simply do not work for me.

    'Slåtterøy' isn't on Forvo (with pronunciations for many words), but Google Translate (when set to Norwegian) seems to pronounce it as -- Sch-law-tair-rey
    translate.google.com/#view=home&op=translate&sl=no&tl=en&text=Sl%C3%A5tter%C3%B8y
    If set to Swedish, the pronunciation changes to Sl-ott-tair-roy

    I have watched you for a long time. I wish you could talk about the scents early in the shave. I dont hear how a soap smells. You are more of the blade and brush guy that uses good soaps.

      I almost always do, right before I start to lather, it's usually one of the very first things I do! I will try to remember, but usually it happens pretty close to the start.
