    Hi, I used to cut my spike's before watching Rick L's channel. I've watched him from the beginning of his videos as well as you and a few others. I use to cut my spikes but. I don't anymore they'll given me 14 extra flower's on some of mine and start new spikes as well. Great video Danielle. Love you videos as well.

      Roxanne Parker thank you! I had observed that the plant absorbs nutrients from the spike and then Rick L did a video on it, I was very pleased that we both came to the same conclusion because I really respect his knowledge as a grower!

    That's a very interesting theory. You are the only one I have seen to consider the energy in the spikes can be benefit for the whole plant. Most people say to cut it off to save the energy, so the plant and focus on leaves and roots. The blue dye got into the leaves is a very interesting proof of your theory. Thanks for sharing.

    I really enjoyed your video. I feel like you do about the Spikes. A plant will tell you when it needs to be cut, trimmed, etc. Also when I left my Spikes on at the two-year mark, my Phalaenopsis had a Keiki. I left it alone. The keiki had 18 blooms and looked six months later, and I had another Keiki! Orchids are such amazing plants!

    I've used to cut all of the spikes but lately I've felt really bad about it and seeing this kinda encourage me to just leave them unless they go brown or my orchids are in danger, thank you for great video

    Thank you Danielle, I so agree! If it's brown cut it down...if it's green let it be. Learned this from "Orchid Whisperer" as well.

    New to your channel but love your inthusy attitude about using hydroponics and so am in the process of changing over the 10 Phals that I currently have as I'm just starting out in growing orchids. I have subscribed to your channel but noticed you haven't posted recently and wondered if you have stopped posting. Anyway have lots of your posts to view and learn from. Thanks for taking the time to film all these. A great help. Regards Casey in Phoenix AZ

    Great video Danielle! and I LOVE your nails!
    I also don't cut my spikes because it is so much fun to watch the secondaries and extensions come in...as well as the nutritional advantage. One can have flowers almost all year round! Hope all is well with you, Danielle!

    Hi Danielle! I always enjoy your videos and orchids even though I don't grow in water culture. I agree with you that is all about ones preference. I always say that people should do what works for them right? Happy growing and I am looking forward to your new videos. 😊

    A vascular system is throughout an organism...different structures don’t have separate systems.

    My two spikes are still green after the flowers fell off 3 months ago. Now I can see a new spikes coming out from the base. Should I cut off the two old spikes?

    How do you get your required temp drop for your phals to bloom since they are in the house?

    • @daniellesorchidranch1591
      @daniellesorchidranch1591  4 роки тому +1

      tksixangels I live in NY so in the early spring I open my windows to allow the temperature to drop. In the fall I will do the same to induce blooms.

    What happens if I cut the flower spike way too short?

      Nothing. It will just eventually grow a new one in ~1 year with proper care
