  • is always a good thing, taking you out of your usual way of doing things...same as in life I guess! Using scraps and trying to feel my way into this piece, feels like a lot is riding on it because it's a group project...which is interesting in itself!

Really love how this is coming together. I made a quilt for a friend who had worked for the local Police Force for 30 years and was leaving. I used fabric from old police shirts and trousers for some of the blocks. I also collected photographs of her career from her family and friends and the ones I had. Used a pc program to tint them blue and white and incorporated those into the quilt as well. She absolutely loved it. You never know where these things take you and after that, I was asked to contribute the centre square for the 90 years of Women in Policing celebrations - I was very honoured to do this and also used recycled uniform fabric. I think using fabric that is relevant to the quilt can make it really meaningful. Loving your thought process, testing pieces, etc, and taking your time and enjoying yourself. Have a great week. x

Hi Emma, I'm loving how this piece is coming together and I'm looking forward to seeing where you take this.
If you haven't got any 'proper' quilting gloves, I use clean gardening gloves - the light weight fabric with the dots on the palm/finger area - they work just as well.
I've just worked up an old pillowcase with some coffee staining - using an old (clean) washing up sponge to dab the coffee all over. In readiness for either stone/walls, flagstones or soil. It gives some good base texture effect 🙂

Hi Vicoria, thanks so much, I love the idea of using gardening gloves! I have had some nice pairs in the past (no use for real gardening!) but they'd be great for this! and thanks for the ideas, great use of a pillowcase! 😍
