I have had several thread gauges in my workshop for many years but never used them as they never seemed to make sense to me! Now I know that they work with a set of tables, thank you for explaining so very clearly, just ordered a copy of the Zeus guide!

Not gauge but Threads per inch or metric pitch. Gauge refers to thickness.
