Ugh! I.m a musician with a home studio. I must have scanned hundreds of pages on an old flatbed scanner. Each page took 1 minute. Holding the books down was a real hassle. You have sold me on this machine. Thanx for your video.

Thinking of getting a tablet to sight-read pieces without printing them out. What tablet do you use to store and read your music? Is the 9.7 inch iPad big enough or would u recommend the 12.9 inch iPad? Is it hard to flip pages with the iPad?
Frustrated Pianist well if you are solely gonna use your iPad for practicing go for the 12.9 inch one coz it is the closest size to a sheet of a4 paper. I personally use the Onyx Boox note pro (there’s a note pro 2 now) that’s 10.3 inch. Love the fact that it runs android but is using an e-ink display (like a Kindle) so there’s a no glare. They have a larger version called the Boox Max 3 but there’s no front light so for me that’s a disadvantage. Go check them out ;)
You are a very talented player and composer. I am a beginner/intermediate piano player considering buying a new better digital piano. I see that you are sometimes play a combination of Kawai VPC1 and Pianoteq 7. To me it looks like a good high quality combination at an affordable price compared to high end digital pianos with built in sound. I believe that there could be other viewers on UA-cam looking for reviews on digital pianos suitable for musical students or other people. It would be nice to have an input on this subject by you concerning things like keybed quality and sound in these reviews.

I just recently acquired a Czur scanner and was looking for some tips. Not sure if you are aware the black mat has a cut out in the shape of the scanner base to center the scanner with the mat.
Excellent video, but I'm confused about the size. Specs for the product say it will scan up to A3, which is 16.54" x 11.69", yet isn't the the music score you are using 17" x 12"? Yet is seems to fit easily. What am I missing, here? Also have you been able to scan large Sonata books? Thanks!

Yeah it says up to A3 but it works fine for every score I’ve scanned (and I’ve scanned over a hundred already as I digitalised my music library). I can confirm that the scanner handles “larger” scores without problems whatsover. Basically whatever the scanner sees it will capture, and the company added some buffer so scanning an A3 sized document doesn’t yet reach the edges of its capture point. Hope this helps!
I just got the SHINE, latest model yesterday. First thing I noticed as that is the main reason I baked it. To scan a 80 year old genealogy book slightly smaller than A3. It is not thin and the mat is 100% the size of 3D it will NOT scan the entire 2 pages of my book in one go. As it needs to see black around and the book is exactly A3. I will come back here.
Hello shaun, just discovering this video now do you know much about the CZUR shine overhead scanners and their capabilities in terms of scanning sheet music for digitization. I am trying to find something that would do that process well without breaking the bank. Thank you
How good of a job does it do on straightening the pages? I'm wanting to digitize a huge collection of sheet music, including several Henle scores as well as full books (Beethoven piano sonatas, Bach WTC, etc etc). Does this thing produce nice straight pages when the book being scanned is curved>
For me, it's less straight than with a conventional scanner. It's not awful, as demonstrated in the video, but not consistently crisp, straight lines. The software certainly improves upon the curve in the raw image though.
In my opinion it doesn't bother me at all. Maybe I'm just used to it by now, as long as the resolution is clean and clear and it isn't too noticeably warped I'm happy!
Thanks for your detailed video. This kit won't produce files that can be read by Sibelius/Finale but have you or anyone else tried uploading the pdfs it produces to software such as Photoscore to accomplish that?
Is it possible to edit the image before saving to a pdf? For example, on that last score that you scanned, it would be nice to clean up and remove all those jagged edges from the spine of the book. Basically replace all that clutter with a white rectangle. Can you either edit it in this software, or if not, can you export the individual pages, clean them up with an image editor and then re-import them and then save out as pdf?
Heyy Charles! Thanks for your msgs! Yes, within the app you can select the crop tool, and you have two options - either crop the page smaller or select the part you wanna keep and fill the rest of the page with white (that would achieve what you want). While exporting you can also specify a fixed aspect ratio to export, so cropped pages will be scaled up to the size specified.
When you scan pages, they go into a folder immediately, so technically you can edit them in image editors straight from the folder. Likewise, you can import image files not taken by the scanner, and work with them from within the app. Of course in that case you wouldn’t be able to flatten the page for example as there will be no laser line guides to begin with that the scanner needs (it does a prescan with a red laser and saves it to the file) to correct the page curvature. If in the case the page is not flattened correctly, you can go into an option and adjust both the book seam location and the distortion correction levels. Hope it answers all your questions man!

Derek Pullen no I didn’t, but wouldn’t a flatbed scanner suffice for photos though? I can imagine maybe it’s better, I feel the Czur’s light may get in the way of glossy photos...

I have tried my ULTRA SHINE that I received yesterday. I does scan several pics at the same time and sets them into separate files BUT it really has problem with anything like gloss.
You can't use that lamp from the scanner I will try with indirect light AND I have tried magazine pages that I collected for a pull library that I use as Designer and I want to turn digital
as the pages are bound into numerous basic glue bound books nothing fancy and the gloss is a real problem! Ok this is my first day playing with it. I might find solutions and ask them to resolve the problems maybe with software updates. Otherwise packaging look etc all top and amazing connection during the Covit19 delay period it took 11 month to delivery but like others they could have taken the money and run.
What would be a typical file size per scan as demonstrated?

At the settings I mentioned in the video, around 30mb per 100 pages! Hope it helps!
Of course one could further reduce the filesize by tweaking the settings or using an external app, but I feel that the settings mentioned is the sweet spot for decent quality score scans viewed on standard tablets...
Why is there no Android software so you can also work with smartphone + portable book scanner on the go?

I scan but the text is blur not as good as flat bed scanner
Best is xerox photostat scanner but need loose papers ….
The final scans are still warped...honestly I think you'd get very close result on a decent phone with Office Lens or Adobe Scan...flatbed is still the best way to go for a HQ scan, unfortunately...
Simon McCaffrey actually with the right settings, some post-adjustment and a little technique the results are really quite impressive. I mean of course one could achieve decent results with a phone, but it requires optimal lighting, positioning the phone, detecting the seams properly, etc. and for thicker books it’s quite cumbersome (I fidgeted with that method for some time myself). Flatbed scanners are classic of course, if you are lucky enough to have a speedy A3 flatbed scanner (to handle the big scores) it’s great. Still will have to scan one page at a time though unfortunately ;(
@@Musicshaun It's not the worst OK, but it's deffo not as good as a flatbed. I just think for a quick and dirty usable scan Lens or Adobe are fine. Then if I want something really nice looking it's worth the bit of hassle with a flatbed. Yeah an A3 would be ideal OK, though I find I can do piano music fine with the A4...(tip, a stack of books beside the scanner that levels with the scanner height, and then some more to stack on top of it helps get things nice and flat).
