This scanner is FANTASTIC for books! The auto-flattening feature really makes the PDFs turn out excellently. You can scan hundreds of pages in just 15-20 minutes to start, and I'm sure faster once you get the hang of it. I'm so excited to own this for scanning my kids' homeschool books!

Thank you for your video. I am thinking about buying the Czur Shine Ultra Pro to scan Science Textbooks. My concern is about shiny page/material types. Can I improve scan quality (shiny or a bit reflective paper) by using to side lamps (warmth and light intensity are both adjustable) on either side of the main camera stand/pole?

So in my experience, the overhead light that comes with it actually ELIMINATES shine rather than causes it! But you can absolutely play around with lighting if you want, I didn’t need to.

does the software "flatten" the pages, beyond what you are doing physically with the yellow tab holders? I can imagine scanning a large book, where when scanning the beginning of the book the left hand side will be thin while the right hand side will be extra thick.

Yes! I’m sorry I forgot to mention that 🤦🏼‍♀️ It does a wonderful job flattening the pages. Looks like I placed the pages on a flat glass top scanner!

i intend on using it for translation purposes. is the text quality of the photos good enough to be able to OCR the document?

I am not familiar enough with that process to give you a good answer. I think that the images from the scans are pretty good quality. You can also select how high quality you prefer when you export the document to PDF, so you could just make sure that you select the highest quality at that stage of the process.

Does this provide better results than or similar to a flatbed scanner scanning at 1-bit black and white at 200-300 dpi for digitizing books for quick referencing?

I’m not familiar enough with scanners to say so, but I have used flatbed scanners before and I thought the results from this CZUR were as good or better.

Have you tried to use the finished product, the pdf, with a "read out lout" software program? I want to hear it read out.

    • @caitlinbest7373

I haven't, but I noticed that there is an export to PDF setting that seems to allow that.

@@caitlinbest7373 if you do use read out loud options please let me know. Thanks

have you tried pressing down on the book with a clear piece of plastic, to flatten the book, to see how the scan looks like?

No but I don’t see a need, the software flattens the pages nicely.
