i had the privilege of watching this live, it blew me away and i broke down and cried at the end, i'm not sure why but i am proud to be indigenous....thah eenah
I am a first gen born to immigrant parents from the Caribbean, but I witnessed this live and had the same reaction as you. powerful art evokes genuine emotion and on some level, speaks to common experiences.
my high school gf at the time was native American (pima tribe) and she introduced me to this culture. senior year in high school I visited the makah tribe in Washington. did a spiritual cleansing there and I have to say, it was something powerful and amazing. I wish I could be native American to be a part of such a great culture.
That opening. Bringing chills to my body and tears to my soul. I love my peoples music, more than anything that my people have done. Long live the Cree and the plains Indians beyond
I'm not indigenous, but this gave me [positive] chills... I will likely never understand the vocals, but the message comes through loud and clear. Bravo!
Many would say it's "only" a symbolic gesture that the mainstream in Canada has made moves to incorporate the traditionally marginalized & colonised, but the symbolism of that gesture is very powerful. Indeed, we have a long way to go as a country towards healing & setting things right, and it remains to be seen whether words & gestures will be followed by definitive actions, but it gives me hope that we are moving in the right direction towards becoming one nation of equal opportunity, equal voice & equality in standard of life, towards finally becoming Canada.
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid lost the account password. I love any tricks you can offer me.
I love it because as a former German immigrant this is the music of the indigenous people having lived here in the Americas for 20,000 years and we should be not only proud of them but recognize them as the legitimate heirs and founders of the Americas, North and South. I can't understand that we don't give the original people who lived here in the Americas the credit of having advanced their culture from the Arctic to the Antarctic. Because they survived on this vast continent before the English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, the Netherlands arrived here in the Americas. And those recent incoming populations were actually occupiers and colonists. We never learned their original stories and hopefully we get to see some of their culture before it disappears as it did with the German tribes once they were invaded by the Romans and later on by the Catholic Church.
I remember when I was a kid , another kid asked me where I was from. I was shocked as I had never been asked that before and answered “ from here” he said no where are you really from. I answered again “ from here” He though I was stupid and walked away laughing at me. But I have no other answer many years later. I am Mi’kmaq , and I’m from here. Thanks for being such a good representation for people to know we are still here.
SO BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING! Congratulations on everything you guys. I love you and your music. I tell everyone and everyone to give you a try. Have fun on tour! XOXOXOXOXO
These preformances are probably the most inspirational and empowering moments for young indigenous peoples moving into the future after 100s of years of struggle and cultural genocide

It's native throat singing mixed with beat boxing
typically thats part of more northern tribes and its always done by women
Traditionally as a duet in a game or contest to see who breaks or laughs, unique to the Inuit.
why was she trying to be so seductive though?
she should have had traditional clothing on when singing into the mic and not acting like that. it would've looked way better and people would've understood it more.
What the fuck was that last minute. I knew there had to be a clown world moment at some point lol.
❤❤❤
