Tate, I love your priorities as a player. Seems like you're foregoing the whole Gospel Chops thing, the extreme metal thing, the nine-limb independence thing, etc. Seems like you're mostly just focusing on pocket. Freaking love it.
Appreciate it Ryan. All of the stuff you mentioned is super fun, but it has nothing to do with emotion and feel (for the most part). That’s what I’m more about doing. I want people to feel something and move when I play music! That’s a bigger challenge than getting my hands to play “fast enough”.
@@tate_berkey I wanted to like you till you said this silly line...but it has nothing to do with emotion and feel (for the most part). At least you said (for the most part) knowing it was a slip
My point is that one does not have to have super fast chops to be able to emote something on their instrument. That is all great, and can be a useful tool in the right musical situation, but that has nothing to do with groove and feel. If it was a “slip” I wouldn’t have written it at all…
This is so good! Very well done and so accurate! I can tell you put a lot of time into getting this one down nearly beat for beat! Great feel too! Subscribed!
Oh Man. One of my all time favourite Steely Dan tracks. Absolutely nailed on by an exquisite drummer. Very well played young man. Bravo ...

Great playing and tasty! Is that crash on the far right a Dark Med? It's the perfect crash sound!
Thanks Bill! And yes, that’s a 17” Dark Med K.
