- Hello flocktube,
When we first got our baby blue and gold macaw Shelby, we saw her doing things and displaying certain behaviours that completely confused us, and there is hardly anything on the internet about baby macaws and baby macaw body language and behaviours, so we decided to make a video sharing our experiences with our baby macaw, what we discovered about baby macaw body languages and behaviours, and then share them with you in this series.
In part 1 we answer the following common questions:
Why is my baby macaw bobbing its head?
What does head bobbing mean in macaws?
Why is my baby macaw flicking its wings?
What does wing flicking in macaws mean?
Why is my baby macaw honking?
How to tell if my baby macaw is hungry.
How long does it take to wean a baby macaw?
What do black lines on feathers mean in macaws?
My macaw has snapped a tail feather.
If you've ever wondered these things, or a baby macaw is something you may be considering bringing into your life then you may also find yourself asking these questions.
If you have any questions regarding baby macaws, drop them below and we will answer them in the following parts to this series!

We’re getting a baby macaw in a few months from our breeder and your videos are so helpful! You’re absolutely right that there is barely any information when researching for macaw care. Also just baby macaws in general
We could find absolutely NOTHING! It’s mad. Hopefully we’re able to shed some light onto them. Good luck with your new baby!
Great video. Looking forward to the next one. Possible to shed some more tips on how to wean baby Macaw. Thanks guys.
I just want to say thank you for making this video. We recently brought home a baby Greenwing macaw and the tip about chunkier chop has been a huge help! Thank you for helping us to expand our little girls diet.
Shelby is awesome. I spotted you guys over on Mikey a while back doing the hot pepper challenge!
Thought I'd sub after I spotted your link after Paws Claws featured us!
Great information video! Always great to see educational videos on behaviour!
Awesome! Thank you!
Nice !
Love the video. I just learned something about my baby macaw. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
This is incredibly helpful, thank you 🙏🏻
Our Baby Blue and Gold is now also called Shelby, she is 15 weeks old and all that you’ve said is so helpful, can’t wait to hear more , things like how to get our baby to like her cage, she has a beautiful large cage but she only goes in there to sleep at night or if we have to go out for a few minutes
Ah wow, welcome to your beautiful Shelby! Getting our Shelby to like her cage was a long process so that's a great video idea! In the mean time make it irresistible for her in there. Lots of toys, things to destroy, foraging opportunities. And train her to go in there, so click and reward once she is in.
thank u for all this information
No problem, glad you were able to learn something!
Interesting information.
Glad you liked it
How about if you have the same bird that hasn’t flown her awhile life. Can they be too old or out of shape to fly ?
Hi guys xx
hello i am getting my macaw tmr green wing macaw
Ooo good luck!
This birb has a great name. No bias 😂
Amazing!
OMG thanks for replying i'm a huge fan are you in london
Steamed no way ..I've been wasting so much veg.. edited ..he ate so much this morning..I'm in shock..
which macaw do you think is better green wing or blue and gold
they are all beautiful in their own ways and none of them are better than one another
I have a severe macaw (since he was 4 months old) been there, done that, wait till you experienced the "terrible two's"...
how long are they babies for what age are they an adult bird
They mature around 4-5 years of age
@@ShelbyTheMacaw I never knew that!!
That's a great question!!!
Don't reward Shelby biting your nose ... I wonder if macaws can recognize they have bitten too strongly ? I know we humans sense a screem when the bird didn't like something, how about the other way round?
They tend not to bite their own flock with their full strength, but can still hurt quite a bit! She’s never looked bothered about how hard she bites lol
O they know ..believe me they know ..because my bird was been ever so careful with us , my friend who came and rubbed him but smelled of beer when he was 3 months the next time he met him he nailed him..I was secretly delighted..my boy defending himself from a gobshite..so proud ..lol
