  • In this video, I compare the Waterborne Surf Adapters, Carver CX4 trucks, YOW Meraki S5 trucks, and SwellTech system. I'll be comparing how quickly each setup picks up speed from pumping, how much each truck pivots, how sharply the boards turn and carve, and the general feel and ride of each surf skate.
    0:00 - Introduction
    0:51 - Pumping
    3:05 - Pivot
    4:37 - Carving
    6:15 - Feel & Conclusion
    7:03 - Outro

    the reason the swelltech had the "least efficient pumping" is because you are actually doing the dreaded wiggling to pump. Its inefficient on the ST because it forces good technique. All the other surfskate promote wiggling, ST is the only surf accurate one

    • @TheFonzirelliz
      @TheFonzirelliz 2 роки тому +3

      exactly my thoughts! Propper pumping consistrs of compress and decompress, not wiggling. Wiggling on water takes you nowhere.

    • @barrydworak
      @barrydworak 2 місяці тому

      This isn't quite true.
      Wiggling is a lot like a double pump bottom turn, where as you finish your initial bottom turn, you find yourself behind the section or just not going fast enough, so you add a wiggle to add speed as you go through the flats.
      Wiggling does simulate one technique used in surfing, just not the part of surfing that most excites us.
      Is the Swelltech going to simulate top turns and cutbacks pretty well? I haven't ridden one but it sure looks like it.
      But it seems like no surfskate can really simulate all of surfing completeiy on flat ground. The Carver CX (C7 is really different) with more resistance, can simulate pumping for speed, where the Swelltech can simulate top turns, on flat ground.
      Of course, a wave isn't flat, so transitions or surfskate-specific transitions like the wood wave, add a lot more variables.

    Nice video, some useful and accurate comparisons - loved the bit where you showed the 4-split screen and how each truck moves!!!. For your next video, (or just for your own interest!) try switching/comparing each different truck - using the same board. I've done this by putting my CX on the POke instead of the 28" Super Snapper, completely different experience! I don't think it's a fully accurate comparison when you compare trucks but on different board lengths & wheelbases. Good luck with the channel!

    Great to see the Poke in action again. I only started boarding three months ago so still have lots to learn. Have been running the Paris setup but have CX.4 trucks coming in a few days. So I'm hoping to have one setup for flatter longer runs and one for smaller wavier places. Great content. Maybe try a cone-cone on the CX front truck...

    Awesome video, but for a true feeling of the CX, use the factory cones. Gives way more lean. The nipple bushings you don’t even need a riser they are so restrictive. Need at least a quarter riser on a poke with carver bushings. Not as much rebound, but still really good, with better carving and pumping. Also the 20 1/4” wheelbase on the poke really takes away more than it adds. I think if you had the factory CX bushings on a 17-18 wheelbase, it would have made a way stronger showing. I love the CX trucks if you couldn’t tell….

    Hey Mark, So far I had 2 surfkskates, slide and Swelltech. I started with the swelltech (bad idea) and had it for about 6 months. I never ride a skate in my life before the welltech, so as you can imagine, it was very difficult. I got my hands on the slide for about a week after a long wait. I hadn´t got out much, but I love it right away. The trucks system is fundamenal to compare one brand with the other, but I found that thw swelltech´s wheels was very small in comparison with Slides, It was very difficult to ride with the ST on an uneven road. Slide has giant wheels (very similar to the other boards shown here). The one thing I miss about the SW is that you can pump uphill very easy.

    The wheelbases of these four boards are so different that you can’t just compare how they ride. Shorter wheelbase makes a board that much more nimble which affects turns and acceleration.

    Just subbed … and I am thinking of the waterborne … mainly cause I love to longboard and cruising long distance like 5 -10+ miles … so I’m on the fence if I should go for waterborne or cx4
    Btw just subbed

    • @gooz
      @gooz  Рік тому

      Hey thanks for subbing!
      The CX4’s feel closer to regular longboard trucks but they carve deeper and you can pump using them. They’ve got a bouncy feel from having bushings.
      The Waterborne adapters completely changed the feel of your trucks to a more flowy, looser feel like you’re surfing.
      So the Carver’s are closer to your current cruising setup while the Waterborne’s change up how your ride would feel

    The real question is what are you using the Surfskete for? I mean, if you only want to pump the city the carver experience is the best, because is the best pumper ever, but if you buy a surfskate for practicing while you are not in the beach, or in flat days... Swelltech is the best one i think because one reason: You are going to use it to train the surf moves to help you when you went back to the water!!! It's a so technique one? Yes! but this is what you really want!!! Also, the new trucks are so diferent, they improved a lot the first ones. Congratulations for the video instead, a very good edition. Hope to see you in the next actualization

    Bro u nt pumping correctly. Use projection. This way the yow board is possible to pump even faster cos of the more stable rear trucks to pump harder for more speed. And the technique u use for swelltech is wrong. U have to engage yr whole body to get swelltech pumping in the correct way. While u wont get it faster than cx, it will be way faster than what u were doing.

    Great video and thabk you for buying the 4 models to upload the review. But i muat aay as a swelltech user that your riding position is really bas. The review.is kinda biased at least for the swelltech because you're pumping it like if was a carver (and its not it have 2 springs to use them to pump insteado od moving your body that way).... Also your fret position is rrally poor, front foot ahouls be just above the 2 screws and you are puting it on the middke of the board. That way you cant generate leverage. Front foot should carry moat if the weight. I know that sounds scary but after aome.month of traininf you get it (as well after 1 year maybe learn how to pump with efficiency)
    Anyway thank you for the content im not trying to hate on just to share as well!!

    Good video and review format. You’ve got to get better at riding before you’re review’s will be more relevant. You aren’t riding these boards correctly, so you’re not going be able to articulate the nuanced differences between these systems for their intended users. At best, this is relevant towards other beginners. It’s got potential however.
