"Psychopaths are assertive, they get things done, they don't procrastinate, they don't beat themselves up..." Well, I guess the good news is I'm not a psychopath.
My first husband was/is a psychopath. The traits they’re bringing up here are why I was attracted to him. He’s a go getter, doesn’t procrastinate, very charming and fun. He never felt guilt, and would really make you feel good, “ oh don’t let it bother you!” The problems come with the rest of it. No actual bond to keep him home, and there was always a good reason for him to leave. Whether it was a fun adventure, being a workaholic, or another woman.
I guess the question is, or at least my question, is it some thing they cannot help, like an actual brain deficiency or is it a conscious choice over the years that has messed up their brain, I mean honestly or even really bad environment mixed with susceptible genetics. I don’t know it’s really hard to judge people, I get the acts are really crazy but no one who truly could not help themselves deserves to be hated. We wouldn’t hate a schizophrenic for committing a violent act in a hallucinogenic state. I don’t know all the stuff with the brain is so very interesting, and it sucks realizing how little we really know.
Actually they don't, or , at least, not like the average person: they have a "retard" in the development of the areas linked to these functions (pfc, amygdala), so they, congenitally, don't have a "conscience", namely a moral way of thinking, but, as empathy, it is learned later in life, in a logic manner.
@Help Viewer lol i always thought i was a bit psycho ..by the way i think things...but i have social anxiety a lottt ..so I can finally count myself out.xD
Also the lack of empathy (the lack of caring part they mentioned), the high levels of ego, narcissism and sadism. These attributes as well as the ones mentioned in the video are the reason they are not only attracted to positions of power, such as politicians, law enforcement, CEOs, etc. They are also successful in those positions. At least until they lose control of their ego or aggression.
@@sophitsa79 Oh they do care. About themselves. They can be sadistic because they derive pleasure from having power over other people's pain. Part of their ego mania.
@@sherazade82 one of the diagnostic characteristics of psychopathy is that they don't have emotions like pleasure, joy, anger, embarrassment. A sociopath might have these feelings to a small extent. Sadism is another diagnosis. The Dark Triad comprises psychopathy, sadism and narcissism

The movie "Nightcrawler" with Jake Gyllenhall portrays this behavior more realistically than your standard slasher flick. It even nails the "good" parts: the assertiveness, ambition and drive, optimism.
It’s dangerous how they’re glossing over the fact that psychopaths are conniving liars who are only concerned about their own well being and with gaining power and control over others - at any cost. While fascinating from a distance, “do not feed the animals”.
Psychopaths are attracted to power. They tend to be more concentrated in careers involving controls of others and with high social recognition. Such as politicians, lawyers, surgeons, army officers and managers especially in corporations which are known to pay very well (e.g. financial companies).

I think a lot less than you think if any at all. People don’t really understand psychopathy and this guy whose wearing glasses is trying to glorify it because he’s never encountered one. Psychopaths won’t last in leadership roles and they definitely don’t like hard work which is something you’ll need to do as an athlete, instead they use manipulation, something they’ve learned to know to be effective from a very young age. Same here. I've never understood the "answers" to this thought exercise. There is only one person in the world I *might* kill for, but if he's not one of the 5 who would die, then I don't care. If I don't do anything, no one would judge me for not doing anything (seriously, would anyone blame me for not killing someone to save the 5?) Anyway, I could also easily just say I froze, which would have been very believable. But if I sacrifice the fat guy, I highly doubt anyone would label me a hero. Especially nowadays, with cameras everywhere to prove that I indeed sacrificed him. I would just be called a murderer and sent to prison. The fat guy's family might also come for me. Even if I don't get convicted, my reputation and life would be ruined. Why the hell would I ruin my life for 5 people who mean nothing to me?
The choice is to EITHER save 1 life OR 5. In both cases, doing "nothing" is in fact, making a decision to KILL 5 people! I don't understand why you people would need/want to add a reward system to this scenario. It's already as simple as it gets, and the logical choice is obvious, no need to add extra incentives. Person 1: Would you push a button to save 7.5 billion -people- strangers, or do nothing and let a comet crash into Earth killing them all? Person 2: Well what's the incentive here? Person 1: What?!?... no fr, WHAT?
I'm a "psychopath" and ill often be the "can I help you ma'am" type or be the one to say "oh god that's awful" automatically cuz ive trained myself to. When really its mostly play acting. If someone told me to cut it out I'd be like yeah youre right. I've saved peoples lives countless of times cuz I immediately think rationally rather than freak out. I even get irritated when im trying to do something to help and everyone else is just screaming. I've said "stfu and get me a towel or im just gonna let him bleed out and not give a fuck" Even when im offended its mostly just play acting. A dance i feel like I need to go thru in order to get to the end.
I already know I have this (37/40 PCL-R), to say it's difficult to find information that isn't potato tier is an understatement. The morally bankrupt degenerate caricature that Hare & Babiak spent a quarter of a century researching no longer holds the weight it used to, larping gets no-one anywhere.

Narcissists need emotional-supply and feedback. Primary-Psychopaths do not, they are self-sufficient. They supply themselves. There is zero codependency attachment, and zero bonding in the mix. It's best for Psychopaths to be understood as being solely-egocentric, rather than emotionally-narcissistic. Any act of narcissism is just the mask.
Actually modern definitions indicate there is no substantive difference between the two, and “sociopath” is now archaic. Both are now labeled, unhelpfully, as “suffering from” Anti-Social Personality Disorder” by the DSM V (if memory serves.) Not to say the distinctions you mention aren’t real. Certainly, they are very interesting and noteworthy. But it DOES mean they seem to be manifestations of the same general pathology.

Speaking from experience, some psychopath do procrastinate AND do beat themselves up but ONLY in a way to manipulate someone else. For exemple when talking themselves down in from of someone they want to manipulate, they wouldnt think a word they are saying about themselves
They only “...don’t procrastinate...” when they want something. And some ARE sensitive to pain. But none give a tinker’s damn about anyone but themselves. So empirically speaking. Oneself can observe the qualities of another, while also observing the out coming result of that quality. Thus to be able to Pretend, act up, a hypocrisy form of those qualities long enough, to gain a desired outcome to themselves in social benefits and situations. Nonetheless, contrary to their born with nature. So Many high intellect psychopaths do this very often in public positions. But are really a bloodthirsty murder behind their saintly words and public do good actions. So that they can slip their true nature actions behind those pretenses, thus to get away with socially lawless activities according to their natural nature.
@Rakscha The Chemicals that the body generate, are nothing more than a external reflection of the consciousness that produces them thru the body itself. No fear; no sad feelings (I laugh even with burn animals and I don't cry for death); no anxiety; no shame; no depression; no mercy; addicted to adrenalin and risky situations; "feline look" (charming); narrow focus and cold mind on situations of danger or pressure; no hesitation. ... and thare are other not so positive traits (alter ego is real.. I uses to burn, play and speak with dead animals when I was a kid... I almost died several times... I definetly don't value words, pain and emotions as society expect). Psychopaths are great leaders and can make key decisions under pressure. They often tend to be extremely intelligent. We need more of them in Government, elected office, the military, business, the courts and law enforcement. Things would run far better if we had more psychopaths in power.
I've gotten a new appreciation for Psychopaths after playing Rimworld for thousands of hours, now they are valued highly - besides they help make a mean burger.
I have a friend who basically never feels fear, he is in stinks not to do things that will have consequences. But on a day-to-day basis he basically only feels happiness and anger. He has a small superficial charm but he does not have a grandiose of oneself is he a psychopath?
Most psychopaths are not grandiose, narcissists have grandiosity. Psychopaths don’t feel fear or love. That’s just their biology. They don’t feel complex emotions.. just dopamine if they seek out extreme experiences. They’re constantly bored, they don’t care about anyone but themselves and what they get out of you. They see people no different from inanimate objects. They just don’t give a shit so social reciprocation is something of an act as long as they benefit more from you. Also, they are not easily offended.
This is really broad. Many variables would make coming to a conclusion based of this test misleading. For example: What if someone considered the legal consequences of pushing someone over a bridge? I understand that might not be part of the experiment, however when deciding which choice is better, it's more than 5-1, it's 5-1-1, because you need to consider how these actions could affect your life beyond emotionally. This means someone could not push the fat stranger over, not because they care about the stranger, but because they've considered the repercussions of 2nd degree murder. Secondly, a severe realist would more than likely push the fat man over because he/she more than likely flicked the switch in the first part of the experiment, therefore from a scientific, logical perspective, pushing the man over shouldn't be an important variable for the overall outcome. The first example could easily be a psychopath, but self preservation caused them not to push the fat man over. However from an outside perspective that person would seem empathetic towards the fat man. The second example could easily be an innocent person for the reasons described. This shit is far too complicated for a simple experiment like this to encompass, it has it's purpose, but it's surface level stuff.
"They're not going to k1ll you or r4pe you or maybe even take your money. But they're going to manipulate the situation, make you look bad or use you in some way." "You don't fight these guys because they're an interspecies predator. A human that is a predator on other humans." These give me goosebumps... I just peed my pants.
There is a thing that age 40ish they start to get slovenly. They let themselves go somewhat. How does that tie in with not being procrastinators as they seem kind of related?
What do you think about dark empaths? (People who have cognitive empathy and are able to mimicry good empaths, but have high psycopathic tendencies) Are they just psycopaths or should they be their own category?
Interesting question. If it's mimicry, I would say that this is indicative of a lack of true - or at least full - empathy and is instead strategic manipulation.
Most of us have a trait called cognitive empathy which is essentially just that, we study and learn to adapt an emotion which eventually becomes a "mask".
I wouldn't pull the switch at all. I could save five, because it's 5 lives being saved vs 1. However, those 5 lives are a total of 5 individual lives. So why are any of those 5 individual lives more important than the 1 person's individual life? So I choose to just let it play out how it plays out. I hope that made sense.
I found out from my therapist that I am codependent and through research that I am an empath. I met a psychopath on Tinder and it almost killed me. Please stay off dating apps.
Flicking train track switches is a BAD idea. if the 1 person is stuck there... and even if not... randomly putting that train on another track is like the ultimate felony and could cause a massive train accident.
@@muiscnight It's not a mental illness; it's a personality disorder. A mental illness can often be treated or cured, but a personality disorder is often inborn, and most believe psychopathy is present from birth and probably cannot be treated effectively.
So, to sum up (For Case 1 and 2). A psychopath, would be able to push the person in front or flip the switch because they lack any sense of fear, where as, A normal person couldn't because they wouldn’t have the guts to do it.
A true psychopath would always flip the switch/ shove the fat guy. The reason is simple: If you save the lives of 5 people, that's 5 people that would feel indebted to you- which can be quite useful, as opposed to only saving 1. It's simple math. It's more beneficial to have 5 favors you can call in, than it is to have 1.
Actually,I think it's not a correct answer. because those five people are not dumb when train is moving you can feel the earth shaking and you can also hear the sound of train and if you're deaf you can still feel the earth. So I don't think that I'm going to push chubby guy he has nothing to do with those five people those five if they are especially able that's another debate, but cubby guy still have nothing to do with stupidity of those five people. Also Dr. doesn't describe them as normal or abnormal so I rather not push that big guy because he was an easy victim so those five should d*e instead.

@@zysupra2682 yeah, but they know how you think and answer according. If you're asking that now famous question then you have already started that the answer mean more to you and if you have any value to said person they would answer with some empathy just to keep your mind at ease (also some studies believe they have a switch that let's them feel empathy and a cop I know stats that to be true for him [filthy pig]). And that doesn't even goes into if they have some semblance of intelligence they would try to justify their answer and a good start would be going with laws because it's a references the feeling of the population on a subject (it would only get more convoluted the more they know about the group). One final thing why would you assume I would answer as a psychopath and not just a student interested in the subject? Try to think a little before you type especially on a comment more then a year old
@@leejohnson3270 I still believe most psychopaths would answer that they wouldn't pull the lever because the psychopath should know that's the normal answer, or the "easier" answer to pick for the normal person. Saying that you would take blood on your hands to save people would draw attention to you. "I would push someone off a cliff to save 5 other people." Saying this just telegraphs you are different, and not in a socially appropriate way. Psychopaths are extremely intelligent and would rather say "I wouldn't pull the lever because I simply can't live with the fact that I killed someone." There, you can't argue with that answer.
about this train track thing, i wouldnt do anything, i wouldnt even care lol, how would saving 5 people for the price of 1 helpe me exactly? thats what a psychopath would probably think, they wouldnt look at which option is better, but which option is more benefiting for them. not getting themselves involved would be optimal since then they will have more time to think about their issues and not about the issues for other people
It's hard to look at yourself, just as it is with anyone so we often have shortcomings that another can exploit. There is also taking advantage of the things we consider to be below us, for instance a psychopath may refuse to lie because they believe such a thing is only needed by others, so these things can be exploited though they should not be relied upon
I wonder if we need a better name for this condition, something that indicates more about the lack of empathy. Psychopath sounds like a general psychological pathology.
What kind of society is it, when we've created political governance so conflicted, the average person commits multiple felonies daily, but only arbitrary or political targets actually get prosecuted? Meanwhile, partisan politics advances marketing agendas that compete to promise programs that violate underlying rights and other foundational law, with any potential leaders attempting to avoid that being rapidly marginalized? Socionormative behaviors in such corrupt conditions need more recognition as dangerous pathologies.
So if a person is an upright and moral person (and always has been) and then their orbital frontal cortex is damaged in someway, making them no longer able to decipher btwn good and bad , right and wrong , what does that say about the idea of “God” endowing us with a sense of morality?
Push the person off, run over the crowd or single casualty detour? 🤔 💭 Either action in each scenario will still delay the train around the same amount of time give or take. I'd probably just run straight through the crowd. If I were on the bridge I would just try to alert the group best I could, but I'd definitely watch the slaughter. How often do you get to watch a group of people get steam rolled by a locomotive 🚂.
Exactly. The switch track scenario is fairly easy because there are only two choices with guaranteed results. Standing on the bridge introduces way too many variables for anyone, psychopath or otherwise, to treat it like the same problem as the switch track.

Exactly they are aware of right and wrong but they just don't give a fuck

Actually they don't, or , at least, not like the average person: they have a "retard" in the development of the areas linked to these functions (pfc, amygdala), so they, congenitally, don't have a "conscience", namely a moral way of thinking, but, as empathy, it is learned later in life, in a logic manner.

@Stephen Smith If the fat guy's a psychopath and there's cctv you have to push him to save your own life.
This would be one differentiation between psychopaths and sociopaths.
The choice is to EITHER save 1 life OR 5. In both cases, doing "nothing" is in fact, making a decision to KILL 5 people! I think the subconcious mind can create habits in communication and emotions that affect how the person responds. I don't think you lump all psychopaths into one category. Not to mention they are not all criminals.
Not all criminals... They choose to kill
I don't really see myself as a psychopath as I would never even dream of hurting another person but I find myself thinking that somes feelings don't matter as they won't affect me in the long run. That’s totally normal. Don’t worry,
Everyone has those feelings.
You’re not a psychopath.😊
Evidence suggests that psychopathy is a neurodevelopmental disorder. Some children or teenagers who have psychopathic symptoms may not necessarily have them as they mature into adults :)

There is no need to worry, though I will tell you that even as I too don't often think about harming others, the very act of worrying makes it almost a certainty you are not one of us. It's nice to hear that you're a friendly one though, hopefully time has treat you well

I have no time for trying to make psychopathy into a neutral or positive thing. The damage such people do to those who get close to them and are hoodwinked is just inexcusable.
@@litty4553 Can you explain how logic is relevant here? It isn't categorically a matter of logic.
@@litty4553 “It is the mark of an educated man to look for precision in each class of things just so far as the nature of the subject admits; it is evidently equally foolish to accept probable reasoning from a mathematician and to demand from a rhetorician scientific proofs.” - Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics,. Virtually nothing you're writing about is categorically a matter of logical reasoning.
If anything the high-functioning non-violent individual is more damaging - since they're able to swindle and cajole trusting people. I'll never forgive the person that did that to me. @@litty4553 it isn't irrelevant - you're using logic in a context where it is categorically irrelevant.
Do you have any evidence for the heritability of psychopathy at 50%? Most experts suggest it's largely genetic, with sociopathy being more environmental. I am clearly interested in understanding the sociopath, otherwise, I wouldn't be here. (It's not a case of understanding them *logically* but perhaps clinically). What I am not interested in is extending to them an empathy that will never be reciprocated - and would be detrimental to me if it were given. I am not interested in *let's understand psychopaths with the object of harnessing them for the collective good* - it ends in tears and pain for others. Maybe you can interact with someone else.
Inexcusable is a strong word, the excuse is obviously that it was something we wanted to do. Even still nobody is innocent, and at the very least most of us end up learning to patch things up when we're done, others simply run away out of fear or guilt for what they've done. It's a good idea to have a firm mindset with us, but understand that it's inherently flawed

But they're going to manipulate the situation, make you look bad or use you in some way."
"You don't fight these guys because they're an interspecies predator. A human that is a predator on other humans."
These give me goosebumps...

And that doesn't even goes into if they have some semblance of intelligence they would try to justify their answer and a good start would be going with laws because it's a references the feeling of the population on a subject (it would only get more convoluted the more they know about the group). There's a spectrum, so one psycho might be smarter than the other and have no problem with manipulation. Especially using their delusions against them
It's hard to look at yourself, just as it is with anyone so we often have shortcomings that another can exploit. There is also taking advantage of the things we consider to be below us, for instance a psychopath may refuse to lie because they believe such a thing is only needed by others, so these things can be exploited though they should not be relied upon
