I agree. The ethics argument doesn’t work against fakes. The Dior thing is only just now grabbing people’s attention, but there were several European journalists who did stories about the working conditions of workers in luxury leather factories years ago. It’s been an open secret for a long time. Luxury consumers just wanted to put their heads in the sand. The quality argument is another one people use. The fake here was TERRIBLE quality. But some of the fakes I’ve seen are impeccable. Chanel and LV have had such several quality issues the last few years that sometimes the fakes are made better than the real thing. THAT’S really sad.
I don’t support fakes, but given the recent Dior controversy, I don’t know if the real thing is that much better, ethically.
