How to fix the GoPro HERO9 Media Mod's biggest flaw

- The GoPro HERO9 with it's all-new Media Mod makes the combo the best vlogging camera of 2020. However, it has one tiny flaw. It comes with an inadequately sized thumbscrew. Of all the things that could be wrong with this, this is a super easy fix. The thumbscrew is just too short and is a real PIA to adjust. It's not a major flaw, but it should've come with a longer thumbscrew.elow is a link to purchase a 45mm thumbscrew as seen in this video.

FINALLY, someone else then me found that the screw provided is too SHORT. Not even Gopro’s own tool can be used the tighten the screw. Thank you for the link 👍🏻
GoPro has the WORST R&D team ever. They’re firmware is like 34 now, but it still acts like 1.2 Beta. Doesn’t anyone test any of this stuff before they send it to market?’
Excellent video. I have the media mod and it’s amazing. The only issue is when it’s time to change batteries.

The end of a thumb screw can also be used to pop the little ears up so no additional tools are needed. Other than a longer thumb screw, I do love my media mod though.

GoPro directly have to provide the MediaMod with a long screw! And for the users that alredy bought, GoPro have to send for free! The screw issue is a very big issue!

Couldn't you just use a Phillips head screw driver on the original one?
Mags Why would you carry around a screw driver with this? Think about that. It’s not about if you can do it, but why should you have to. This was poorly designed IMO. You need a 45mm thumbscrew for it to be effective
I thought the same thing. The I realized that changing the angle would be a PIA if you had to dig up a screwdriver.

Exactly. I carry a shorty phillips screwdriver in my case for that very reason.

GoPro should have built finger mounts into the Media Mod... As easy as that. The design is flawed and stupid.
I've been thinking of getting the new Hero10 with the media mod, clamping it to a head rest, and making some driving videos. 2 concerns I have is focus area/color, and the depth of field. I want to be able to see my steering wheel, where my head is looking, gearshift, and through the windshield at the road so I can see my lines.
My Mustang is an all black interior and I mostly do backroads driving on bright sunny days. On my phone it can't get a good exposure balance where you can see what I'm doing and still see the road clearly.
Would you be able to upload a backroad driving video with it clamped to the passenger head rest (or the sunroof) to show how it would handle the different exposure needed, and the depth of field?

Hi! New here. Im going on a roadtrip from cali to Oregon then to washington. Im visiting the Twilight movie film locations. I have the iphone 12pro max but its a solo roadtrip and i need it for maps. You have any suggestions what might be better to buy to record my trip? Im in between GoPro or canon g7x. I more than likely wont use either one of them again after this 8day trip. I only plan to record some of my drive when im in oregon and washington. Not the whoooole 15hr drive. My hikes.. and for pictures i was planning on using just my iphone. Im not sure what to get. Any suggestions? Thankyouuuu
