I have had a similar experience. I bought Dutch/Frisian books from the Netherlands and Afrikaans books from S. Africa. The shipping from S.A was murder but it really helped me learn. If I have some extra money, I will definitely buy some books from Ireland and likely some of the ones you suggested. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
ive been using mango languages and tied it to my supported city library system. irish is free but popular languages like japanese will get unlocked if you have that supported library card. as for irish ive done like 15 hrs and only halfway through. its nice because it can auto play its lesson like while you drive. also its annunciation and sentence creation lessons are in the repeat and reinforce way of learning.
Okay, I've gone ahead and checked to see if the voice on Drops is Munster or Connaught. Guess what! It's neither, not a native speaker, not proficient or fluent, not using the correct phonemes, not even trying to. Within seconds it was clear to hear! Knowing as we do that there are thousands and thousands of native and proficient Irish Gaelic speakers, I'll never understand why they so often opt for somebody who can't even pronounce the basic sounds. Rosie, get back on their case, please. I've just emailed them, too. The possibility also exists that they were duped, a chancer out to make a fast buck, and then the Drops team clearly did not bother with their due diligence of consulting with for example ME, or anybody with a longstanding experience and knowledge of spoken and written Irish Gaelic. The mind BOGGLES, at how people keep getting such basic stuff wrong. It's a shame, but if anybody can get it fixed, maybe you can, Rosie, knowing what a wee terrier you are!
I most certainly will!…I definitely heard that she was saying English-style “r”s, but I attributed that to outside influence…but Wow-they didn’t even bother to get a native speaker? That IS mind-boggling. 🤨 And a bit frustrating. Thanks for also emailing them; I’ll recontact them as well. Maybe together it’ll make a difference. 😃🤞 💪

I guess that pretend Gaelic speaker charged them a ton of money, but I'd happily do it for them for free, with the correct sounds, as it would save me the stress of having to hear it mispronounced again, and give my students some excellent content. Have you seen their similar issue with their Chinese Drops course about two years ago?
No, I never heard of that issue 🤔 Did they have a non-native speaker on that course, and they found out later and had to get a whole new speaker? If so, maybe they’ll do the same for the Irish course 😏
@@irishwithrosie2007 The Hiberno-English R is definitely colonising Irish, even in the speech of fluent speakers whose pronunciation is otherwise good. And there are urban native speakers who learned from learners, who have this R. I don't know if it's going to spread outside of urban areas, but I wouldn't say it's impossible, though it makes me sad as a semi-fluent learner.
