You're absolutely right about the Hendricks Gin and Elderflower Fever Tree. I didn't see the hype about Hendricks until I'd had it with the elderflower and a slice of cucumber. Totally different drink, even compared too my favourite London Dry gins in the elderflower tonic.
I just discovered this channel today and I am enjoying the videos. I have been experimenting with different Gins and drinks during quarantine and have found my favorite Gin drink. It is a Martini made with Bombay Sapphire East Gin, Noily Pratt Dry Vermouth, and a lemon twist, 5 to 1 mix. The lemongrass and black pepper of the Sapphire East melds perfectly with the lemon, my 24 yo daughter who usually turns her nose up at gin thought it was a wonderful drink. Thank you for the very informative 3 videos on Gin.
I've always enjoyed Gin. I started gathering spirits and ingredients when I got into making cocktials. I rediscovered my love of gin and now all I make are Rye and Gin cocktails lol. Very lovely episode
i used to get a big tall vodka bottle from costco and that is all i woudl use for cocktails but i am rediscovering gin and rye and bourbon in ways i wouldnt have on my own with these videos from Cara! Thank you Cara for getting us diversified!
My current martini of choice! Bombay Sapphire Wet (2:1) Perfect Dash of bitters Stirred without specifying Orange peel garnish Bonus points for coupe glass
Haven't got much experience with gins, but my absolute favorite spirit of all time is Beefeaters Crown Jewel. Got a bottle from my dad among other sprits he had collected over the years. It was absolutely delicious, emptied the whole bottle in a weekend.
Your videos are just delightful!! My dad taught me to make him a gin & tonic when I was quite small. Quarter of a lime squeezed and dropped into the bottom of a tall glass, plenty of ice, shot of Tanqueray (always Tanqueray!), topped off with tonic water and gently stirred with a long spoon. He would drink one while he barbecued out on the back porch, and I was so proud to be the bartender! Fever Tree Elderflower is so delicious... this video makes me want to sample the other tonic flavors as well!
8:40 the flirt game just got real For real though, loved this series and it made me read the entire label of my bombay sapphire i've been loving to years to find out what's actually inside it
Loved all 3, so informative, just realized that all spirits are loved by someone. Each spirit should be respected for their fans, the drinks they are apart of and especially their history. All things bar and booze. All things, I get it, pretty cool
Just came across this channel. Glad I did! Epic gin line-up: Hernö, Santamanía, Plymouth, and a bottle of Never-Never in another episode. Garnish: keep it simple - it’s not a fruit cocktail!
We’re from Devon so our Friday G&T is Plymouth with Fever Tree Mediterranean. My absolute favourite cocktail is a Dry Martini, again with Plymouth, 5:1 with Noilly Prat & until now 2 olives. Didn’t realise till I watched your video that even numbers are bad, so looks like it’s 3 from now on!
There is an Irish "maritime gin" from Donegal called An Dúlamán that uses seaweed in its botanicals, so it actually tastes faintly like seaweed smells or sea air or a beach or something. I had to drink it neat to be sure. It is very odd but I like it. It might be good in a dirty martini perhaps with olive brine
@@BehindtheBar Hope you like it - it's prob. not for everyone as I have heard some people say it tastes "fishy", but I think it's more like it tastes how a beach smells
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does someone know of a way to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the account password. I love any tips you can offer me.
@Salvatore Gus I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I’m a scotch and bourbon drinker however,,,, Re: My Favorite Gin & Tonic - Kendrick’s w/ fresh lime, just enough tonic for my daily dose of quinine, as they say, “a splash” lol. Bombay Sapphire or even Plymouth when the Kendrick’s runs out. All this in my best Scottish accent 😉. Respect! I can listen to you for hours.
Great presentation and informative discussion. I love gin and have been trying many different offerings. So you’ve really given this pursuit a great backstory. There is a local distiller that makes several gins where I live, Vancouver Island, Canada. Sheringhams, the distiller has captured and held my attention. For what it’s worth I recommend their products. You have a great channel, keep it up.
Thanks so much Les, so glad you’re enjoying it! I love Vancouver Island, I don’t think I tried that gin though so will have to be back at some point haha
One thing that wasn't included was the Fever Tree Cucumber tonic water - that has been my discovery as of late - in case I don't have a Hendricks bottle on hand, a good London Dry with that cucumber tonic, just delightful.
The 2 of you together are just to cute! I shall make it my summers mission to edumacate me self about ye old Gin! Elderflower stuff sounds interesting. Thanks again - great work. :-)
Interesting video, keep up the good work. I´m pretty impressed by the Nikka Coffey Gin, which is intense, fresh and spicy, best served with Fever Tree Mediterranean. Another nice one is the Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin from Ireland with an Indian Tonic. But there are so many good Gins out there, it´s really hard to decide.
So now I know Trish Cara. Informative fun just bought some Indian tonic . Loch Brewery in South Gippsland G&T Gin ice Indian tonic frosty cold . Refreshing. About to stock up on Cognac xo , Drambuie, and more Tonic. Thankyou for an excellent channel
I was drinking a few Tom Collins watching these gin videos lol. I actually really enjoy gin and tonics, that’s pretty much my go too. Fever tree makes very good tonic waters, I’ve also worked into tonic syrups, but I haven’t found one so far that makes me go like “I’ve found it! That’s the one!” Lol. Too be honest the closest I’ve come with tonic waters is the Schwepps tonic water, yellow label, but it has too be in those small fatty bottles. The “same” tonic water in the yellow cans doesn’t even come close for some reason. Yeah for me personally they blow all the others I’ve tried outve the water. So I used the same Tom Collins recipe but subbed Schwepps tonic in the small glass bottles for the soda water, and that makes a hell of a drink. It’s crazy how one can go from one really bad night with whatever no name gin over a decade ago which hexed gin as a spirit, too opening up a new world of flavors and becoming a favorite spirit lol
I always use Fever Tree! The best gins I've ever had are from Salt Lake City's Beehive Distilling. They have a standard and a barrel aged gin. I always try new gins and I have yet to find one that is as good.
I can't quite tell if this is sarcasm or not - we barely even make a gin and tonic! - but thanks for watching, thanks for the comment and I hope you learned a little more about gin & how to drink it, not just in a G&T - but perhaps you didn't make it to the talks about gin sours, old fashioneds and other stuff at the end!
I’m not much of a gin drinker but I do enjoy a negroni. I’ve been using Gordon’s but I do want to try other brands. Particularly a gin that balances out the Campari. Any suggestions? Stick with London dry?
London Dry is definitely a safe bet because some of the modern gins’ botanicals can clash with the Campari and it can all be a bit much. That said, you can’t go wrong with something with a more orangey or grapefruit vibe - Beefeater 24 makes a great Negroni if you want to mix it up just a little, or Tanqueray Sevilla (Tanqueray has the same botanicals as Gordon’a and the Sevilla uses Seville oranges as well 😋). Otherwise if you let me know what country you’re in I might be able to suggest some more boutique ones!
One of the best G&T's I've tried was actually with the gin from Australia. It's called Four pillars. I wonder if you've tried it and what is your opinion of it.
Absolutely, they’re from just outside of Melbourne. They’ve done a really good job positioning themselves, I now get asked for Four Pillars more often than Hendricks here! Personally I like more savoury gins and they just released an Olive Leaf Gin which is delicious, but they are all tasty 😋
Very true. I’ve actually done a whole video on this: ua-cam.com/video/zDa4TEKjE9I/v-deo.html But unfortunately there is no magic trick. I suggest trying to find smaller bottles of vermouth if you can, otherwise you just have to accept you may not get through a bottle before it turns. I like to use slightly old vermouth in cooking instead of white wine for deglazing etc, and luckily you can find decent dry vermouths which are not too expensive. Either than or drink a heck of a lot of Martinis 😜
Thank you both for a very informative series ! One question: here in Argentina it is somewhat difficult to find good gins without paying exhorbitant prices. The 3 most available ones are Beefeater, Bombay Sapphire and Tanqueray. Is Tanqueray better than the other two? Because I've only seen that one on the show. Thank you!! Greetings from Argentina
Not at all! Honestly, my bar is contracted to Diageo in the rail and so that’s the one I always grab to illustrate London Dry style, but Beefeater is also a great example of that citrus and juniper forward flavour. Bombay Sapphire is a modern style gin, much lighter in flavour (less juniper) to make it appeal to non gin drinkers, so it works really well in light and delicate cocktails- you can make a delicious wet martini, or something like the white lady or east side would work well too 😊 some ideas for you: ua-cam.com/video/x-7y3vbh4gs/v-deo.html

Brockman's gin has a really nice 'berry' flavour to it. Pop a couple of frozen blueberries in there with any decent tonic... very fine.
