Cool. This video was made about the time I bought my Micro Terror - That Electroharmonics tube is HOT! I just ordered the Mesa Boogie - It was my pick from this bunch. I trust their quality.
I put in a Tungsol Au7. More usable cleans. No significant loss of vol. Tonal character a bit smoother than the original JJ, but essentially the same. I like it. Just gives me a bit more headroom.
I had a buddy years back who had one and we did a smart test. Not as many tubes and had the same result with the EHX 12ax7 so we left that in his amp! Just made the amp a beast!
I've got a vintage Telefunken preamp tube in mine. It's probably worth more than the Amp but it has given me more of that vintage Orange tone from like the late 60s to early 70s. I'm digging it. Great to have hundreds of old school tubes in my collection for rolling tubes
I just recently acquired a Telefunken ecc82 from an antique radio that was made in Germany that my friend of mine was going to burn, and I sorted through the tubes and found that one and put it in the micro and holy cow is that a completely different amp to me now
I just pulled the stock JJ from mine and cycled about 5 vintage 12ax7 tubes I have kicking around until finallynarrowing down to 1. The difference in tone was drastic and the difference in volume was very surprising. I didn't think that changing the preamp tube would increase volume at all! Maybe the JJ that was in was tired. I'll have to put it on my tube tester and see. Anyway, this little beast has really come alive. It for sure doesn't sound like my Superlead but will definitely do the job if it happened to break down.
I am thinking of trying 12ay7 or 5751 to lower the gain. I mostly use these amps as clean as possible. I am stuck at 9 O'clock. I am thinking lowering it will increase the range of clean tones.
Tubes won’t make it sound like a fender, they don’t change the sound that much as you could see in the video. You could try swapping the speaker for an American voices speaker or something
Fabulous demo. Thank you so much. You save me hours and a lot money. I liked the louder EH and Mesa tubes.
Me too, but also the TAD, which had some warmth to it.

Very interesting! I like so much your good Idea of testing differents tubes.
The MESA BOOGIE Tubes Just RULES!!!!!
WICH IS THE ORIGINAL STOCK TUBE? EH AND MESSA INCREASE THE VOLUME AND LOW END TO ME
anyone know who mesa's current preamp tube manufacturer is? I understand they switch factories from time to time.

I'm kind of leaning towards the JJ's pretty loud compared to the others
Yea that’s the stock tube
@@chriswebb383 - good to know, I just bought a used Micro Terror and noticed it has a JJ installed. 🇺🇸
tungsol making it quieter? wtf
Yes. Compared to few others like JJ and EHX. Sovtek and Tungsol 12Au7w had the least gain.
what was your personal favorite??
Really helpful video.
I like The Amp Dr Ax7. Switched to the in some of my amps.
JJ tubes all the way for me
WHEN YOU DO THIS YOU DON'T NEED ADJUSTMENT OF BIAS?
Vero Del Vecchio no bias adjustment needed
Bias is for power tubes only
Thank you,
Some sound like ring modulation wtf
