Im trying 2 subscribe & like all pipe smoker channels i find to keep this beautiful, fine, traditional experience alive. Good to you sir 4 helping keep the pipe experience alive. Sry about your mold. In WA state we need a pipe tobbacca tea party coz the gov wont allow private citizens to have tobbacca shipped 2 a private address 😡😡😡
I have a similar experience with Scottish Cake. The Kentucky does mellow out . Another one Rattray’s HOTW. Let it age for ten yrs, OMG. As far as building your cellar,it takes time & you get to continue to find those magical blends. I agree that smaller bowls work great for Virginias. Enjoy the rest of your weekend & keep them smoking that’s what they are made for, Art
Scottish cale is one of my favorites. I have a good amount stocked away and generally dont open it before ten years, 12 to 15 years seems about perfect.
I actually love Scottish cake fresh as well as aged - hotw too. I’ve got a fair amount of both in the cellar but I smoke it fresh regularly. But I do like boldly flavoured blends much more so than mild.
@@pipeonthemountain haha yah thats jot ideal for clear video, which is good for looking at me! Actually that euro mount right behind me is a Mule Deer too.
There was a year when C&D had problems…maybe 2020 or 2021 but they solved it quickly and replaced the purchases of anyone who had affected tins. Bad luck my’ol mate but very pleased you will get replacements 😊👍👍
I'm glad they sent some replacements. I had an 8oz GL Pease blend explode with mold but unfortunately I threw the tin away before it got bad enough to notice. Nice haul of baccy. Enjoy
Good deal on the customer service. Nice tobacco. I think the smooth version of that sweet little rhodesian is at Briar Blues right now, anyway that’s a cool Radice.
I suspected you would say you had trouble with a C&D blend. I opened a tin of Haunted Bookshop a couple of weeks ago that was from 2020. No doubt there was some mold there. Not much, but I could tell it was definitely mold. I haven’t mentioned it to the vendor I purchased it from (who happens to be a good friend of mine), or Jeremy Reeves. Just thought I would let it go. I’m not the kind of person to complain, but it might be good to let Jeremy and the guys at C&D know about it. Thanks for telling us about this.
Poor ventilation that promotes mold growth can be caused by placing tobacco too closely on the tier rails, lack of suitable ventilators to allow adequate airflow or poor management of ventilation systems. This problem arises when it's canned or packed too moist. Some of these tobacco companies make them too wet. After all, they see it by ounces. Wetter, the heavier. Almost 80% of the time, I have to dry my tobacco out some before smoking. Also, if it's the correct moisture, you will not have to relight as much. Thanks for the video. 💨
I agree most tobaccos come a little kore damp than I like, probably for multiple reasons. I find myself drying tobacco all the time. This is fine because i firmly believe that aged tobacco especially benefits from an opportunity to breathe.
@@Shallowpockets87 I was told by Jeremy that they had mold issues because of the honey they used. Who knows. I had 5 tins of bijou that were 5 years old that they replaced. Bummed me out to lose out on the aged tins. But they are a great company and stand behind their product.
I also dislike big pipes. Less material between you and the tobacco better it tastes. Not to mention the fact that I don’t want to smoke a blend for four hours. And I am a clencher so small pipes are so much better for that. Cheers! Silviu 👍🤝

I hadn’t heard about that law. Thats ridiculous. Thanks for the follow and comment.
@@Shallowpockets87 WA & 4 other states currently have that law.

I like the whitetail racks! Glad they took care of the problem.
They are actually California blacktails but thank you for noticing!

I seem to remember 2016 and 2018 were years were a number of tins had mold, could be wrong though.

May have to take a look! Haha
Thanks for showing that.. I’m going to check mine out when I get home now
Just be aware when you are ready to open a new tin.
why is it only C&D? that bulldog is gorgeous. new sub
I heard they had an issue with one of the toppings causing the mold. Not sure what really happened.

I think it is good to let the manufacturer know

How can you tell the difference between mold and sugar crystals?
I actually wondered about that for a long time but once I saw it I knew right away. Its very obvious. Its pretty hairy.
