You're getting Dopamine from winning, therefore you're addicted. Its not a hard concept to understand, in the past I was highly addicted to my businesses as-well. I also was an ex-gamer who hit 6 figures, etc etc. I'd wake up everyday to tons of money in my account, it felt like a videogame, what isn't there to love? The hard part is doing the job when you aren't winning, or when you get used to the money. The hard part is relentless studying, refinement, etc, especially for those who can't hit rewards quickly. The opposite end of motivation is hating your life, if you hate your life badly enough, you'll change it. Everything I do now is raw discipline, I rarely get motivated now. I just know if I'm not winning, I'm losing.
Thank you for sharing this. As an ex gamer just starting out on my entrepreneurship journey after two years of saving up and planning, this makes me feel confident. I've already been disciplining myself over the past two years and I do feel that discipline is my key.

I've often thought about the parallels between video games and life. It really is addiction, obsession, the ability to just keep at it until you get it. Great video.
I had this same realization about "being addicted" many years ago. That's what made me a successful UX Designer in my country. I would study day and night everyday for years and would talk to people about Design most of the time. Got a job, then climbed the ladder up to where I am now. The issue I'm facing is I want to do something else now, but I'm not living in my parents house anymore, I'm on my own. Also I have a lot more finantial obligations and social expectations to fulfill, so I can't picture myself being addicted enough to start something else from the bottom again. It would take many years to get where I am now finantially. And I don't have the energy to to start a side hustle, also I believe it would take double the time because I wouldn't be "addicted enough" if it was only a side hustle, you know? Phenomenal video man! I’ve been heavily addicted to weed for a little over a year now and it has really made my life worse in every aspect. This video really put a new perspective in my mind about addiction, and how I can turn my negative addiction into a positive one. thank you!
Bro you’re the most chill guy ever 😂 your videos are so “normal” and so relatable. It’s like I’m just listening to a friend chat about his life/views/experiences/story and it’s so sick!!!
I like your honesty ...wish u all the best...there are few people with this much of honesty and modesty in the social media...we need true people to give us true adivce
i know this is semantics and im probably wrong, but i think a obsession would be a fit for this. It's because addiction has to do with outside forces while obsession is the internal reason of why you are doing it. There is no thinking with addiction you just want the thing that gives you dopamine and eventually it stop being fun, but then you just do it out of habit and it continues falls off. While obsession on the other hand comes from the reasoning and desires that exists internally that causes you to act, so even when the lows are low with a strong enough obsession you can soldier on until.
Well done Thomas. Here is your next video idea hopefully based on your experience/observation: the best gigs for recurring income, and some indicator of complexity in terms of getting a team to fulfilling it for you and the amount of rework required. e.g. "Best 10 Freelancing Gigs for 10k a month."
I found obsession/addiction is what allows your mind to break free of others expectations because obsession/addictions gives you the sign-on bonus for drive, motivation, and to finally achieve that first little goal. You have 24 hours in your day, 6-8 hours of them needs to be sleep, addiction/obsession will know what to do with the rest of the day's hours, THEN, one day... it will feel like you got to where you wanted in way less time than you thought and now your obsession is finding the next move with zero, I mean ZERO mental strength. Because you just wired your mind to allow fight or flight for anything that gets in your way of the knowledge/XP you acquired for success. Side advice, be aware of any greedy traits and watch your behavior on how you react to new money. Money CAN be a drug disguised as a friend, don't enable it. I started a business 3 years ago, grossed over 700k and failed this year due to a different/worse addiction because of "ding ding ding", greed. Stay in your lane, build the bag.
I am glad your videos got recommended in my feed. It is so down to earth and sincere talking about your own experience compared to other clickbait videos. I will become your loyal fan now and I hope you keep sharing your journey with us!
This is a fresh perspective. Addiction has a bad rep. But if we think deeper, we are addicted to things that makes us feel good. If we can think of the goals we want to achieve in life as a form of addiction instead of work - which usually suggests hard work, it makes the struggles and failures along the way less scary. Thanks for sharing your realisation.
Me too. I've made it one of my short-term goals to be able to quit my 9-5 and never go back after this year. This is the last year i will be a wage slave. Let's get it!
Inspiring. I'm at somewhat of a crossroad in my life, graduating as a CS student soon, and on the fence whether to go the cruise route of grinding leetcode for a great 9-5 job, or going the crazy route as a self-employed/entrepreneur. This really helped to provide crucial insight as it is super relatable as an addicted gamer (dota2 in my case...)
if you've got a skill such as coding, please go self-employed, even if it means working for free to start with. You will eventually have companies queuing up to contract you on a 3 month basis, paying what you would have earned in a year if you were in-house. I hope it goes well!
I can confirm that the amount of clarity I've gotten through your sharing of thoughts has been so much greater than any youtube "influencer" out there. you never hear a youtuber said "Well I dont know how I did it but, here's what I know" and share it. I have so much respect for it, I'm starting my youtube and freelance journey and I hope to get addicted to creating.
I think that in all that grinding journey you should not forget about enjoying it. There should be a balance between your passion and other parts of your life to feel more fulfilled, happy and not to burn out. Years go by, making memories is a good way to go!
I love how relatable you sound in this video. I feel like you may have been naturally competitive, but you never found a productive outlet (productive in terms of what is the social norm). This sounds a lot like myself in my life. I believe that you found a way to take action, which is what most people (including myself) struggle with. It may not have been completely logical, but you were able to force yourself to do a thing and improve on the thing continuously. Another way to look at the "addiction" is to see it as "passion". You passionately strived to be the best gamer/fantasy basketballer/business owner. As a side note, I think this passion can get muddled by the natural tendency to compare to others. It's easy to get discouraged by looking at so-and-so who is in the top 000.1% of your passion. In this case, it's probably best to shoot for the stars and end up landing on the moon. Hopefully you find that where you ended up is actually pretty cool and you can keep going.
I just realized I’m very close to being addicted to self help. I watch videos made by psychiatrists and psychologists and I pause them as I take notes and write down how some ideas apply to my life. Idk how to make money off of it but it’s been helpful and I see a huge difference in myself now compared to even just two years ago
I'm glad I found your videos. These type.of thoughts have been banging around in my head for a while and I've been scared to take the leap and try to start something. It's nice to see you succeeding.
When money doesn't change you, those are the type of people you want to hang around with. Because they can teach you things for free that is worth more than your Gurus course!
Everything you said is completely true. It's all about transferring your addiction into positive, productive outlets. Another thing I would add is that we, as men, tend to be more motivated by proving others wrong than by proving ourselves right. In this instance, a big part of "how" you were able to become addicted to business was the idea of proving your mom wrong. Whether you're aware of it or not, those backhanded comments that she made probably fueled that transition from video games/fantasy basketball/etc. to business. Truthfully, most people (especially men) who become very successful do it to get away from emotional and/or financial pain. My own journey was supercharged by a really bad heartbreak a few years ago. Just some food for thought 👍🏾
Not really the type of advice I was looking for, but congrats on achieving it! And yes! Your drive will be your addiction, the more you put into it, the more you’ll achieve. no one said it was going to be easy, but the fact that it IS something you are passionate about, will make any challenges worth surpassing. Keep it up everyone.
I love this. I love how you mentioned you rid of your car. I grew a similar sentiment not too long ago. For a period in my life, my vehicle was such a hassle especially when I was in a city where everything was so accessible and interconnected with public transit. I just did not care to have a car.
This video is worth 100,000,000 views. You figured it out and it is truly that simple. This video helped me a great deal as someone who has also accomplished many things but failed to see that it was the addiction for acquiring what i wanted that got me here. Goodluck to your channel and i hope you continue to remain addicted to your growth. (btw also a big youtuber commenting from my "private" account 😊 )
discipline is a characteristic that is demonic and above all else. nothing can beat it. A skill needing understanding and therefor training and improvement. Realization mindset shifts etc. But you won't need it most of the time if you enjoy what you are doing, however someone who also does the things required when they don't feel like it will always outcompete someone who only works on motivation, assuming all the other factors are the same. Here is my definition of Discipline: Doing what you know is right despite how you feel and what you want
I LOVE this video! I spend so much time thinking and strategizing, and less time actually getting addicted to taking action. Really appreciate the bit about you saying you aren’t especially gifted or skilled at a particular thing, just addicted. Makes me have more belief in my self.
Very proud of you, young man. I wish more young people took your example. It is sad that many of your peers are having such difficulties and you are making a difference in people's lives and your honest and humble attitutude makes your channel very appealing and inspiring.
I can relate to that "addiction" thing. Anything I get addicted to I put in so much effort and focus and that leads me to forums, youtube videos, saved bookmarks, articles, books, social media posts, and more. That's how I was able to surpass my son and wife in a game they've been playing for a couple of years now and even went as far as reaching the top rank that even they couldn't reach.
Actually really needed to hear this today. I’ve been solo entrepreneur for almost two years now, some months it’s great, others it sucks. Today kinda blew up and it’s been discouraging, but it’s like you said, the addiction for improvement is there and I know I will figure it out and work it out it’s just going to take time. Thanks for a great video!
Deamn this video really resonated with me. I just booted up mario kart wii after a long time and invited my friend over to play. He had spent countles of hours with the game when he was younger. I couldn’t win against him at all in the beginning. He was playing with the automatic setting so I realizes I had to learn how to drift. Then I watched many videos on youtube and played everyday just to learn the mechanics in depth. Now he hasn’t been able to beat me. I am starting a marketing business and it just clicked to me that if I just become as addicted with my company I can recreate the succes I had with mario kart in real life. Thank you man for the advice.
I was recently (March) hired at Coalition Technologies, and it was going good. Almost past my 3 months probation. I made a few mistakes, a couple bigger ones, and a couple minor ones, and they decided to let me go today. It sucked having to hear that. Especially after knowing that I couldn't get a job in 5 years. Just to be let go within the probational period. Definitely sucked. Fortunately I found this video, haven't even finished watching it all the way through, but I hope that I can strive to be like you. I have been wanting to make my own clothing company, so I hope that I'll be able to do it. And be my own entrepreneur. Hopefully. When it goes big, I'll let you guys know the name of it.
2:12 my brother I relate so much, I go out for groceries, the gym, an occasional walk & to meet that one friend once every 3 to 6 months. Everything else is at homeeeee, so there's no need for crazy expenses for insurance, maintenance, and any other bullshit everyone else is saddled with. One of the best money tip is not to spend money on money black holes. About being lazy don't worry about it. The truth is lots of people don't want to make efforts for things they don't care about, it doesn't mean there's something wrong with you.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 out of all the dropshipping and online money making UA-camrs I have watched this video was actually so real, honest and made so much sense. Thank you 🙏🏾
Love the concept of getting addicted. Addiction leads to consistency, consistency allows you to get BETTER at the craft. Addiction will drive you to research methods to improve / gain more eyeballs on your business. This method totally makes sense. You have to be relentless to succeed 👏
This is an interesting take. Obviously gotta be careful with addiction- you don’t wanna become addicted to making money in a gambling sense… and you may have more talent than you realize. Right now you think it’s easy but that’s the definition of talent. I like the way you put it, but how to get addicted to something? It’s not easy for people to get addicted to something they don’t like doing. Usually addiction comes from a bad place like avoidance… look into addiction so you can be in control of your “talents” or discipline
Dude you’re a good storyteller not sure if anyone told you this. I was listening to this whilst making breakfast as if it was a podcast and was totally engaged the entire time
This isn’t even the same type of thing im trying to start this year, but this video is so inspirational because you sound like me. I work 40+ hours a week, but i still am lazy. Procrastination has been by far my biggest problem my entire life. Personally, I'm just a normal dude who is a homebody outside of working. This addiction theory you have, I've figured that out long ago myself. You have to be addicted to getting better and becoming successful. Nothing will change if you're just sitting around and wishing and hoping and prsying without any real action and dedication. Also, patience and discipline are what's needed. Here is to the entrepenuer life and road to a millionaire!
If you've ever had a dependence on substances you will already know that addiction and discipline are not the same. With that being said, your points are not lost on me. It makes a lot of sense. Addiction - obsession over instant gratification (supposedly "fun" but that only lasts so long) Discipline - obsession with doing things that benefit you long term ("not fun" like you said about building a business) I honestly look at them as basically polar opposites but again i totally get your point. Just wanted to throw in my perspective. You are selling yourself short claiming you were just addicted. You had major discipline to get this far. Valorant? Fantasy basketball? Maybe those were addictions but what if they suddenly made you a sizeable income or benefitted your health in some way? Suddenly it looks a lot like discipline. So yeah, they have a lot in common, but are also strikingly different based on the application of the term. It can also take major discipline to curb or defeat an unhealthy addiction. Just like it takes major discpline to expand on a healthy one, typically. It has to do with our nature, and what makes us feel good in the short term vs long term.
Very Interesting type of video Thomas, as you said yourself most guys bragging about 10k+ a month live quite lavish lifestyles and use exactly this to sell courses ect. It's great to see more humble laid back approach like yours, very refreshing!!
It’s so vital to curb the self-limiting beliefs because they prevent you from stepping into your assignment and starting your journey. (Im there and being self aware is the first step toward changing)
I've also noted that most people who even speak about quitting some addictions like alcohol, smoking, simply shift that will power towards another "better" addiction like coffee or tea. It now looks like human beings can't be without a certain addiction, even lazyness could be seen an addiction of some sorts. Thanks for this, really helps.
I can see your mindset slowly shifting. You're still doubting yourself too much. You can be a killer, a big dog, anyone can. I was the exact same like you, I can hear the exact same thought process I had, soon you'll realise your potential. Remember, you only make as much money as you tell yourself you can
This was profound for me. My life has been on this track for a while now. Its cool to hear it from a younger guy. Congratulations! Be proud and have fun :)
I love how you started off the video not sure how to continue your 10k a month topic, but you made a way and even taught us an important lesson that i think everyone needs to hear. And to be honest I don't think its all about discipline, i mean sure that works for some people but i believe its just based how much you desire something. For example, if you're starving for food or water you go looking for food, its the same concept, some people just lack the desire because of their life circumstances.
I think the shift is what most people struggle with; shift of getting out of the comfort zone, going from instant gratification to delayed gratification.
Very real.
I’m currently struggling with that😔

This is just wisdom. Find something worthy you can get addicted to. Thank you, Thomas!
Addiction can be helpful sometimes I guess 😂 Congrats man.. 10k this month 20k the next!!l great inspiration!
Congrats man! I'm halfway through September and I'm sitting at $6480 in profit. Working my butt off to secure that first 10k month!!
Congrats What are you doing to Make that money im 17 and I wanna learn
@@mihdre nice I'm 21, it's good that your already doing it at 17 your early to the game.
@@Wolfe247 yea bro im ready to change me life it’s a life style I want and im trying to educated my self in every way to get closer to it
Thanks for your transparency!!! I reaally recognize myself in parts of what you say ! You’re awesome ! Thank you so much.
I've never commented in a video, but I just like this, I need to be addicted to something that will change my life. I'll be back in 3 months
I can feel honesty in this guy, would definitely be my friend if we were in the same country
Thanks for the inspiration man…. I’m planning to transition my 9-5 job to work at home to open my own business.
@@fabian546 Great advice. Thank you!
This video is an actual gem. Wow. Thank you for your time and for sharing this, you earned another sub!
These are the type of videos i want to see instead of those overwhelming youtubers selling fake news. thanks man
Congrats g. Realist video ive seen
Honestly really inspiring, congrats on the 10k month Thomas!!
Your honestly is rare online, big respect man
I'm glad I found your videos.
I love seeing this kind of raw, human content.
discipline is a characteristic that is demonic and above all else. nothing can beat it.
Hi Thomas, can please do an in depth video about how you went about creating your portfolio and tips about how others can do the same. Thanks
I really needed to hear this, thanks for the video.
Hopefully. When it goes big, I'll let you guys know the name of it.
watching and listening to you speak makes me feel like I found the key to my life. W Mans
Getting "addicted" is actually so real. I need to get addicted to my business.
Keep grinding, and start investing. You are going to need it.
Usually addiction comes from a bad place like avoidance… look into addiction so you can be in control of your “talents” or discipline
inspirational... never stop making content. you are the goat, love from toronto
Dude you’re a good storyteller not sure if anyone told you this. I was listening to this whilst making breakfast as if it was a podcast and was totally engaged the entire time
Thank you!
Addiction - obsession over instant gratification (supposedly "fun" but that only lasts so long)
Discipline - obsession with doing things that benefit you long term ("not fun" like you said about building a business)
I honestly look at them as basically polar opposites but again i totally get your point.
I'm glad I've found this channel. That's deep and plane thoughts at the same time
Very Interesting type of video Thomas, as you said yourself most guys bragging about 10k+ a month live quite lavish lifestyles and use exactly this to sell courses ect. It's great to see more humble laid back approach like yours, very refreshing!!
It's not "addiction", it's PASSION.
You know what! I’m subscribing! Congratulations on the 10k/month. I’m striving to do the same for myself to feed and house my family
I can see your mindset slowly shifting. You're still doubting yourself too much. You can be a killer, a big dog, anyone can. I was the exact same like you, I can hear the exact same thought process I had, soon you'll realise your potential. Remember, you only make as much money as you tell yourself you can
Best video I've watched in a while. This really gave me hope. Thank you Thomas.
Glad the algorithm gave me this video, great raw advice bro. Very inspiring.
