Most common question:
The flooring we picked out has underlayment attached to it already. We did NOT need to put any down.
If you haven’t noticed our cabinets are not permanently attached because they do not fit our kitchen properly. We will be changing them out. The good thing about this flooring is it’s super easy to work with. So it will be an easy fix when the time comes!
Cereal, The dinner of Champions.
You need a tapping block to make installing this type of flooring so much easier. The floor looks great.
So nice to see a young couple following their dreams. I'm 64 and it warms my heart watching you two.
The floor looks great! Warmed my heart to see you two holding hands going into Home Depot. ❤️
That jacket is definitely something to consider!!!
I like the extra effort you have been putting into the filming/editing. It feels very Casey Neistat -ish. It’s great seeing the evolution. Keep up the hard work.
So much easier with the block made for piecing boards together so you dont damage an edge. Easier to get a tight fit.
You are so in love right now!! Always remember to work at your marriage. Remember these times and a little cuddle goes a long way 🫶🙏🤗
Summer is right about the way the direction of wood at the entry, the way the light hits the floor is why.
Hey good afternoon you guys hope you guys are having a wonderful afternoon keep up the good work that's a lot of work to tear out the kitchen and put all of that flooring back in there but just have a great day and God bless you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Cody is correct. Always run the longest direction to make the space look bigger.
11/16/2023 Excellent video here. Ideally, 8 billion people should watch your video because there are about 8 billion used shipping containers all over the world. This could help save about 8 billion people and about 8 billion pets!!! Good Day!
Would love to have a shipping container for a home and or storage but the problem is there are a lot of restrictions in a lot of areas in the US. If it was all country then it wouldn't be a problem. I live in the city and wanted a small one for a storage shed but my city restrictions on using them in the city limits.
Great idea in theory.
Need to leave a gap between wall and first plank for expansion.
We did!
Summer, love the socks. Alan
Lydia got them for me! I love them!
Gosh that looks great so far and can't wait to see it complete. Loved seeing the Ducks. Enjoyed and thanks.
Now I’ve seen everything! That coat is amazing!!
Ceiling looks great. I think you’re smart in your choice of flooring and it wasn’t that expensive. Your choice of light colored wood is spit on. You should find this easier than tiling. Longer runs make more sense. I like how you problem solve. Dark flooring would really close you in. This floor is super pretty. Massive amount of work, well done!!!
From what I've read and understand, it is customary to run the flooring in the same direction that the light enters the home. But what it really comes down to IMO is what you prefer. Either way you will get accustomed to it and like it very much. I think you made the right call, It looks great!! Have a great week ahead. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.
Hi Guys from Down Under in Australia, Love your channel I am a first time commenter but just wanted to say Im so glad of your decision to run that floor the way you did, It looks fantastic. Im 38yrs field service diesel fitter Cody, I want to see some wrenching from ya
Never second guess yourself when the cost is high and you can't easily change your mind later. Dark would have looked great a wide plant dark floors beautiful and classic. However I have the same color you picked in my family room and i love it. You can see the dog hair less with lighter floors
Flooring looks great! The color looks good with the kitchen cabinets.
HD should sponsor you guys, considering the business you’ve sent their way and the free advertising you’ve given them!
I love y'all holding hands. Never stop. I am 61 and still hold my wife's hand. I love your necklace Summer. Very pretty.
One way to look at having to do the kitchen as you move forward. This way you will have all the hard work done, right? I agree with the floor placement, it does make your home look very nice, and open. Sending my love to you both, stay safe, God blessings now and always. Much love, later, Wanda In Ok
You're damaging the pieces by using the mallet! Cut yourself a "knocker piece" to use to knock on. You can use that piece to "lock into' the piece that you're installing. Also, they make a tool specifically for this! Love the color though! (Advice from someone who has helped her husband install hundreds of thousands of feet of flooring) 😊 Hope this helps! Also, I HIGHLY recommend NOT installing flooring under your cabinets & heavy appliances as the floor is called a floating floor for a reason! It needs room to "float" otherwise you may experience buckling later!
Or get the rubber block made for this. Also wall spacers so it can free float.
Ha, read the ret of your comment. Exactly.
I loved seeing the Woodpecker!! How fun is he (she?)!!
Floor looks beautiful
Thank you so much!
Love your choice of color for your floor. I looks really great. With any wood product flooring, it is recommended to bring all of the flooring into the home and open the packaging to let it acclimate to the moisture level in the home. Then when installing leave a gap of 3/8 inch all around to allow for expansion. This gap will be covered by your baseboard molding. Also use the cutoff from each row to start the next row. This will produce a truly random spacing, eliminate waste and look better than seams that are aligned. Keep up the great work. By the time you are done you will be expert installers.
Yep 😊👍
Way easier than tile. We are doing the same thing right now. You guys sounded just like us before starting, lol!! 😝
Great shots on that Pileated wood pecker! Don't let him get at that new Beautiful flooring! Making memories! 😉👍😁
Nice Pilliated woodpecker, I haven’t seen one this year. 😎👍❤️
Not taking sides but I agree with Cody will look better when it comes to finishing around your stove ❤
I love the floor choice it's so beautiful❤ it's a house it's just the material use to make it just like any other house, and it's a beautiful house please stop calling it container house. How would I sound if I call my house concrete house are others my board house, what ever is use to make our house it's still a home. Please don't be offended but I think you should stop saying container house and call it your home. You both as done so well in building your beautiful home. I Wish I could get this flooring ship to me in 🇯🇲 here I love it a lot❤👍🙏
Flood is beautiful!
I'm very happy for you guys! to your beautiful love story!!!!
Awesome step in the build you Guys are turning the corner on this for sure. Great work.
Y'all always show me new ways to do a project, I repeat I'm 62 now and I'm so proud of you both. ,,love your UA-cam channel, amen❤
The floor looks great! Y’all are going to love the end result.
The floor looks great and this is quickly becoming my favorite UA-cam channel.
What I did was install the end of the last piece that was cut off. This gives a random joint pattern and very little waste. I learned the hard way to leave about a 1/4 inch all around for expansion. Beautiful color.
Omg loved the woodpecker!!❤❤❤..and the floor! 😂😊👍👍. And I need to get myself that jacket!!!😮
The woodpecker was beautiful. I like the floor. The different variations of color makes the space look bigger. I would be careful cutting so much you will end up short like i did. Again it looks amazing.
HI Guy's my wife and I love watching your program. and I love seeing a young couple building everything from ground up themselves. you are doing a great job. one hint on the floor I use to sale them for one of the big box stores and also put them in. You may want to rethink putting it under the cabinets because it will more than likely cause the floor to buckle due to the wight restriction on the material it tends to make it ride up when it suppose to float along. Just a suggestion I learn wile working with that type of flooring Joe .
Great demonstration of “problem solving” skills. Your honest, positive communication t creates “win-win” solutions that respects and validates each other in your loving and highly productive “dream team”! Congratulations ! 😎👍
Cut you a small scrap piece to help you get your flooring in place.
I love you too so much. The flooring will completely change everything. I'm so excited about it
I've layed a few of these floors and vinyl as well. It's best to find center of room and start laying from there. Measure to each wall to figure out how much board will be against the walls. You want about the same amount of board boarding room. Starting with full board against wall, could very well mean your last board on opposite wall will need to be ripped down to an inch. Just thought my 2 cents might help. I enjoy following y'alls journey.
I’m definitely going to look into that iHood for my wife and I. I didn’t know these existed but I’m getting one for her for Christmas. Hopefully, she does the same for me lol
Looks beautiful!!
I didn’t like the floors at first, but it’s growing on me 🤣 nice work
Looking good. Steady as she goes and it all gets done. Nice work and looks like home.
Get this it will help you maintain the dog hair I have one and it works great!
Your home is beautiful…stay strong and carry on
Looks great, floors are always kinda tricky it seems till you find that 1 little nitch and go, Man i wished i wouldve known this when I started, but ya'll figured it out and great work
From the video your completed section of flooring is looking wonderful, great choice.
Love love, right color right direction Light expands dark contract…. Looks amazing!!!! Great job
Thank you so much!
looking so nice. i prefer wood floors also. making a good job of it.
Love the mixture of the tones in this flooring, it's beautiful!!!..
Good Job 👍, 😀 Lydia knows best !!
Great floor choice--love the staggered seams--looking good !!! I noticed your firewood pile looking a little small --good thing you have that splitter to use-won't be long till the stove stays hot full time !!
Happy to see you guys putting in flooring. I’m sure it will feel more homely. Sorry to say, but Cody was right on this one just because there will be much less waste on long runs. Put a few of these floors down, you should buy the cheap tool to help hammer the click and snap grooves in. When you get close to walls it’s a life saver. You hit the tool with a metal hammer. Looking awesome guys!!!
Hopefully you have had a chance to read the comments. Yes the flooring looks great, however leave room for expansion. Don't put heavy items on it (stove and cupboards) as this will limit the amount it can expand. I'm surprised that you weren't advised to put an unlay down. We were recommended a foam one. Look forward to the next video.
Our cabinets don’t fit our kitchen properly. We are getting new ones. It’s not a huge deal and the good thing about this flooring is it super easy to pull out. And I guess a few people missed it in the video but the flooring has underlayment attached to it. That’s the whole reason we purchased this kind. We will make sure to go over all of this again in the next video!
@@CantContainUs oh no. Those cabinets look great, but your the ones that need to be happy with them, just didn't know you were going to replace them. Sorry I missed the part where the built in underlay was mentioned. I love this flooring. Good luck with the rest, I look forward to seeing it completed and happy for you to have another project ticked off.
That type of flooring isn’t going to expand and contract much as long as there isn’t major temperature and humidity swings, and 99% of the time there’s not. People blow. That outta proportion lol
Super nice job! Beautiful floor, and most of all the love and hard work doing it together. Great work.
The floor is looking great.
YAY. FLOORS!!! Loos great
Cody you forgot to pull on the strap when you picked up your flooring & say that isn't going anywhere 🤣
THATS why I had to stop and fix the strap 😅
The floors are looking really good. At first it was kinda hard to see much difference, but as you got more done major progress 😊.
Looks great Summer & Cody! ❤
Wow I just love the flooring 😊great work 👏
Thanks so much! 😊
Usually you put a foam sheet down first to take-up voids and soften the feel.
The flooring we picked out has it attached to the boards already!
Fantastic guys just perfect you are now awesome floor installers. Thank you.
the floor is looking great. well done.
When the floors go in...its so refreshing I remember! Good job!
I know the pain of flooring may I suggest you cut a small off cut to use as a hitting block so you don’t wreck the edge of the board also we use plastic spacers at the end to keep the board away from the wall so it can move under the skirting or trim piece we bought a kit at our Bunnings (your Lowes I guess) with all the spacers and hitting blocks and steel pieces to hit the ends with here in Australia
Finally! I bet you're so happy! Now you can see all the dog hair 😂. All kidding aside.... great job!
I know the dog hair that builds up is insane!
The floor looks great!! Can’t wait to see it finished.
Ditto ❤
YOU GUYS GOT THIS.. Loving how your home is coming on... GOOD JOB GUYS..
cant wait to see final product God Bless
I’m floored at all the progress in this post. 😂
Flooring looks great
Thank you!
It looks so good! I've never done this type of flooring, but I can see it's a really tough job. I love it!
You should have went with Pergo outlast. It is about .20 cents more but it is better than the defense. I have been a flooring installer for about 5 years professionally and longer then that working with my dad who has been in the industry for 35+ years. My dad bought the pergo defense for his house and after a year it looked so bad it scratched super easy. We got it all out and bought the Pergo outlast and after 3 years and 4 kids using it, it still looks like new. Sorry for late comment and hope your dogs don’t tear it up to much. Also leaving a 1/4 inch gab on the boarder for expansion due to temperature changes is a must. It also says not to put heavy objects onto flooring since it is a floating floor but you will be fine with stove and fridge on it. Other than that the floor looks good.
Can’t wait to see the floor all finished 🎉
What an exciting milestone in your build! It is looking wonderful!
Great video. The Floor looks fantastic. U could have used an off-cut for a tapping block instead of using rubber mallet direct. I have always put an underlay down first
The Underlayment is attached to the planks
As I'm sure you learned, the edges are pretty fragile, so you shouldn't be hammering on it to set the boards. What everybody does is cut a small 4-6 inch sacrificial board, and use that to hammer on. The way you did it, it's not actually click together, and it easily comes apart - or worse, the tongues brake off. Each new piece should lay perfectly flat, and not curl up like that. Underlayment is also pretty important for several reasons.
I guess there's a reason for the saying "You should build your first house for your enemy, the second for your friend, and the third one for yourself" :)
Edit: With the sacrificial board you can - and should - use a real hammer, not a rubber mallet.
Underlayment built in
This was so exciting!
The floor looks great!
It will separate the way Cody wants it !
The floor is looking good!!!
Looking Good!
Pergo is a really great brand.
Good job guys!!! It will be interesting going over the transition between the containers running the same direction of the seam.
The seam should be flush with the floors. I don’t think we have any high spots but we can always grind it down a little more if we need to!
We ran across this issue in our old doublewide. At the seam one section was a bit higher and over time we got separation on the flooring.
Love the flooring guys it looks so good
Floors look great!
It look s so good! Great jobs to you both.
I love the flooring, and I now understand the layout of your home, I think I missed the episode where you explained it lol 🥰🥰
The floor looks fantastic. Summer you have a Junius for a husband that man can do anything👍👍. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Awesome floor choice!
Typically laminate flooring should not go underneath the kitchen cabinets, better to cut around them.
Our cabinets are not permanently installed. We are getting new ones so didn’t want to cut around for the dimensions to change!
@@CantContainUs
I just mentioned it since I already made that mistake once with my DIY laminate floor installation. When it came down to replacing them afterwards a few years later it was a bigger hassle. Looks great though. I’m local in St. Charles County, maybe will cross paths one day at Home Depot. 👍🏼
