  • Clotted Cream in Britain is delicious… but how does the stuff Americans can buy in the states compare? I just had to find out! So I visited Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds, hit up the Cornish Bakery for fresh scones, and did a head to head comparison of refrigerated Roddas Clotted Cream in a tub vs. the long life Clotted Cream in a jar. Be sure to let me know your thoughts on clotted cream, cream tea, afternoon tea, and our taste test!

It's better than having no clotted cream at all, but homemade is pretty much the best way to go in the US. I'm going to have another try at making it myself in March. I have to wait until Ian's gone, because he'll have a fit if I make clotted cream again 🤣🤣

Hi Dara and Ian, me and my husband are very big England fans too. We have been going by car to Cornwall twice a year, in May and September since 2006, and its absolutely worth the 17 hour drive. That's where my heart is. It's funny that I discoverd you, through Kirsten und Jörg's channel. I love their videos. A nice holiday includes a few cream teas. Very tasty:)). I love scones and bake them often, but the clotted cream is missing. This week I ordered the excat same one you tested from a British shop. I have to say it's no match for Rodda's clotted cream! We are going back to Cornwall at the end of September and are looking forward to it. The people are so friendly and the walks along the coast path are unique. Great to have discoverd your channel and watch you have a good time. Take care. Have a good time, Gabi from Germany

You should probably try making clotted cream in the oven… it would be the next best thing to Britain 😉.
We had an amazing summer in England again this year, and now we are on a tour for a few weeks through Austria, Italy, France and Luxembourg. Then back to Texas for several months before our next summer in England. Thanks for finding my channel and saying hello!

@@MagentaOtterTravels Hello Dara, I will make the clotted cream in the oven in winter and test it😊. I was so sorry that you got on the wrong train and then the bad people who harassed you. Not a good memory. I hope you have some nice days on your round trip. Austria is beautiful. We often went there on holiday in the past. But then we discovered Cornwall🥰. If you're ever in Cornwall again, I can recommend the little sunset cafe in Gwithian, at Godrevy Lighthouse. We always have our delicious cream tea there. The homemade chips there are also unique. Unfortunately, this year in Boscastle, our beloved Haven cafe didn't have cream tea on the menu The owner had changed. We always looked forward to it after the long walk. The cream tea at the National Trust cafe was not so good. The clotted cream was so hard that you couldn't spread it. I wish you many more healthy, eventful days for your great journey. This was never going to be much of a contest. That bottled stuff bares little resemblance to the real thing. As you touched on, the textures just off, and not a lot of similarity taste-wise either. Likely the process it goes though that allows it to sit on the shelf for however long it needs too... I tried it once cos they'd run out of Rodda, thought it'd be better than nothing... wrong.
For the freshest CC though, next time you're in Devon, Exmouth, there's an indoor market with a stall that makes, and sells CC most days. This along with all the other accoutrements you need for a cream tea. Well worth a visit.

Dara: I once asked a Somerset farmer, friend of ours, how he made his own clotted cream (because it was a bit special!) from his cows' milk. He said that the 'finishing touch' was to get his (now deceased) mother to go and lift the lid, and look at the cream......"and that turned it!" It was still the best: shame he has retired.
