Hey !! This is what i call real barn talk. Awesome farmers. My mom was a dairy woman. We lost some older Holstein cows from getting to fat before calving.
I'm in Southern Wisconsin. Wish you were a bit closer. My wife would love to have those twins in our barn. Keep up with the videos. You've fast become my favorite UA-camrs!!!
'Love your cattle stories and background sharing! I have seen contracted tendons on newborn calves. The vet just cut them so the calf could stand! In farming, you see it all. That whiter calf will probably do well, at least as a growing calf. Wow, on the cattle prices!
Great stories, thank you! Please hang in there with that calf with the broken leg. She looks like a little fighter and I would love to see her grow up and be a part of your milking herd. It's a heartwarming story to say the least. Thank again!
OMG AARON YOU HAD ME AT THE TITLE. My absolute favorite you do. Keep them🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻I want to come to your farm and help and pet the cows🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ohh, how I wish I was sitting on that bale of hay next to you, sharing the celebration of new life! Every time I travel between ND and Madison, I send some thanks to you as I pass Eau Claire.
I enjoy watching all your videos, & I certainly know how important machinery is for milking and for field work. But I really like to see the videos that feature your calves & cattle - & their bells !
Beautiful calves. So good to see them all doing well. I know you take care of your cattle and you just never know what is going to happen. Lovely to see the older twins looking so healthy. Remember that video. Will have to take a look at it again. Thank you.
I do remember that video George, often you can tell when cows have twins and it seems to run in families we had a cow years ago the had twins and each twin had twins.... interesting how that seems to happen.
When I was young the Dean bull family was the go to. We sold a bull calf from an original Dean daughter to the state of Israel for their new herds. Mid sixties. Small farm like yours. Enjoy your videos
i had a herd of brown swiss. when the cow had twins bull/heifer i always kept the heifer and would try and breed them. i had pretty good luck with getting the heifer bred. i had quite a few twins out of my swiss. i never liked to see twins. but i had good luck so it never rally bothered me. i would breed the few holsteins i had to swiss cause swiss calves come out more like thinner than a holstein. worked good for me for 1st calf heifers. and my cousin butchered cattle he loved a swiss steer said he got more meat out of them usually. BUT ship a swiss steer and get LESS than a holstein
😅neighbor that had swiss did not calve them ubt 30 months old. When I was milking one year I had 18 out 56 cows had twins. The veterinarian was amazed. Mostly mixed bull/hiefer Did have triplets once all bulls.
It’s not always the case, but most likely. The testosterone from the bull prevents the ovaries from developing in the heifer. The heifer is called a “freemartin.”
Good Luck with the calf with the broken leg. We had one on our farm when I was a teenager that that was really big when it was born, so we had to pull it. We broke one of its front legs pulling it. We had the vet put a cast on it. But it would never quite heal. We ended up butchering it when it was around 6 months old.
Brown Swiss.......... a farmer who had Brown Swiss and Holsteins, said training his Swiss calves to drink out of a pail was a struggle compared to his Holstein calves. What is your experience ?
Dang. 2 calves, but mixed twins, so the heifer is likely to be freemartin. That always sucks, especially from a really good cow. You might want to breed the cow back with sexed semen, to increase the odds of 2 keepers. 🤞 Great explanation of it!👍👍
I would love to spend my vacation time with you two, would be so enjoyable for me!! Your calves are the best, that would be my favorite part, to care for the calves. This new one, with the leg problem, so glad to see how nice she is doing now!!! Around where I live, this calf would be a prime candidate for a petting zoo to want it, iif these places are around your region, f it comes to needing to part with it, she would have a nice life there, but I do understand the economics of keeping animals. Great to watch your days, thanks again!!
You might want to think about raising that Brown Swiss bull calf for your herd sire, he has excellent confirmation.
Beautiful set of brown Swiss twins .

Very cool! My Dad exported Holstein heifers to both Hungary and Pre Castro Cuba. Before my time, but he told me about it.
George, your stories are so interesting.

I have swiss cows and if the calf gets on the mama before you can feed with a bottle you'll have a hell of a time getting them to drink
no matter what you fool with, cows, hogs, or sheep you eventually you see a little bit of everything.
PSS, did you ever name the calf that Dr. Mason delivered in April, maybe Maisey???
For preventing milk fever, watch Tom Pemperton’s videos. He gives them hot water to drink…..

Nice can you get in touch with me I might be interested in those calves
Do you have more brown Switz twins than other breeds? If so are the breed lines constance ?
Lovely calf’s but is there a likelyhood the heifer is gonna be sterile? Or is that a myth?
At 4:05 he explains this…

Whats the trick to getting swiss calves to drink, cause they can be stubborn.
I had brown's Swiss.for over 35 years.Could never get them to drink milk from a bucket.
@dsvidhill3409 floating nipples otherwise no problems here
Nice looking calves and I like your crossbred heifers
Keeping them with their mother
The trick is to stop breeding another species so that you can sell their the baby's milk. You people are disgusting and you will get your karma
Hybrid vigor! Sometimes observed in humans too.

What is your experience ?
Is it true that a heifer calf born with a twin bull calf will be sterile? What is your experience with this problem?

Aaron , PRETTY PLEASE,I JUST placed an order…. Would you and Darby sign my hats🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻????
As John Wayne said. A cow is nothing but trouble tried up in a leather bag. Horse is no better!
90% freemartin. Twins have twins have twins. Breed the cows that twin, to beef semen to cut that cycle.
