My uncle, pilot officer James, J. McElligott (aged 24 - from Listowel, Co.Kerry, Ireland) was wounded during a Fairy Battle raid on May 19th 1940. He crash-landed the plane and died from bullet wounds. The other two: Sgt. B.C. Long and V.C. Burgess survived. Burgess shot down a BF 109.
Thank you for sharing this story Mac13ie. Those who flew the Battle were incredibly brave. I often wonder if they realised how outdated and outclassed their aircraft were against the enemy. They did well to shoot down an Bf 109.
