Thank you very much.
the chat about overseas players brought back some lekker memories of Thierry Lacroix, Freddie Michalak, Olivier Roumat playing for the Sharks back in the day
Hi Guys. Just a brief description of the provinces of Ireland. Appreciate that most SA fans wouldn't be aware of this (as, to be fair, most Irish fans wouldn't be aware of the structure of South Africa!).
Connacht: Size - 17,711km²; Population - 588,583; Largest City - Galway
Leinster: Size - 19,801km²; Population - 2,858,501; Largest City - Dublin
Ulster: Size - 22,067km²; Population - 2,215,454; Largest City - Belfast
Munster: Size - 24,684km²; Population - 1,364,098; Largest City - Cork
Munster is unusual in that their home stadium (Thomond Park) is in Limerick as opposed to the largest city, Cork. That's why they alternate many of their URC games between Thomond Park and the smaller Musgrave Park in Cork city.
Leinster's dominance is mainly due to the financial clout of containing the Irish capital city of Dublin. County Dublin is the third smallest of the 32 counties of Ireland but has a relatively huge population. The link below shows just how big the disparity is.

Thanks for the information champ!
Super Pod guys. IRFU-funded central contacts for high performing players helps Leinster utilize their budget for signings like Jordie Barrett. That said, I applaud Jordie Barrett for such a bold move at the peak of his rugby career: Win-Win for Ireland and New Zealand!
Great discussion lads. Just a note regarding the "favouritism" point. Leinster benefit from a higher population and a greater number of rugby playing schools which is why they tend to be stronger than the other provinces.
Fair enough, appreciate the support man!
Best description I’ve heard was from a kiwi who described Leinster as a club with 16 elite youth academies (the private schools).
@@gordoncomstock8025 theres about three schools that are elite and consistantly produce professional talent and thats Blackrock, michaels and to a lesser extent Marys/Andrews etc ....definitely not 16 elite academies lmao
Big signing for us. Can't wait to see him here & hopefully a fit Snyman.
Leinster are doing what best for them and why not. But look, there is only good that can come from this though. Good for URC, good for Champions cups. Like the SA teams added so much when they joined the URC, this will be good for rugby overall. WOW what a signing. One thing f sure it has us all talking about rugby more 🙂
Leinster have the majority of the Central contracts, but thats based on merit. Difficult to name a player from the other 3 provinces who are not on a contract who should be on a contract. James Lowe and Gibson-Park are not on one. Josh VDF only got one last year. Yes, he was World Player of the year and not on a central contract.
Rassie is and always has been the dominant and lead coach as much as they have all played major and significant roles
Freddie Michalak had a stint at the Sharks back in the day
I think it's a good signing from point of view of experience and IP transfer. Only negative is where does he play? I know he can play in quite a few positions but Leinster are stacked in all of them.
There are 13 players with central contracts in Ireland, so the IRU pay their wages, 10 are from Leinster, that's why they have cash to pay for the likes of RG and Jordie.
Fair play to them as they have a fantastic farm system from the local schools.
Sucess breeds sucess 🇮🇪💚☘.
Nice show lads, very enjoyable discussion, congratulations again on your WC success. 👏👏
Thanks Patrick! We appreciate your interactions , can't wait to play best vs best in July!
Fair play boy,s. That,s yer best take yet.no sa arrogance. No one been biased .just staight up talk saying how it is.people dont see the sacrifice player,s take on. ? Chasing the sun is brilliant mindset regardless of where you,r from.?as an aussie looking forwards to irish in sa in july.clash of the titan,s.😂😂😂😂
Shot mate 😂😂😂
@@brevieboy1897 ye have no prediction.s this week? I normally do the opposite what ye pick and win money.😂😂😂😂😂
@michaelmoynihan9591 coming tomorrow 😂😂😂
@@brevieboy1897😂😂😂😂😂
Think about it.? Ulster buy a loose head prop, a dime a dozen, while Leinster employ
S.A.'s best defensive coach. Followed by a Kiwi centre who will uplift the back line play around him. Clever management at the heart of Leinsters success.
Well said, leinster save a lot of money by bringing most of their team through the academy that gives them extra cash to spend on a couple big name signings
I agree with the Leinster point, individually they have an insane team one of the best ever but it’s the trophies that count and they haven’t won as many as I think they should have in the last couple years in comparison to the crusaders
Guaranteed Leinster will get theirr jordi money back in Season ticket sales. Other Provinces will benefit from Leinster Academy players having no chance of making the first team so they will move.
Great conversation lads
Thanks bud
Also, for the record, there are 7 Leinster players in the Munster squad, 8 in Ulster and 16 in the Connacht (D4West) squad.
Good okes... Most Saffas can identify with 🤞🇿🇦 and know exactly what they're saying.
Love this podcast
Where were you ?
Leinster get more young players because there's is a concentration of schools that play rugby in and around Dublin and surrounding areas compared to the rest of the country. Rugby is played much more traditionally in fee paying schools that are also concentrated in that area. Might be another few years before rugby is played more in all schools.
All 4 in Ireland get good funding. The dilemma is, Should Leinster Coach, train, and. then give their best players to the other provinces. I say no.
Good show btw
Thanks man!
On the topic of favoritism for leinster over the other provinces - its an interesting discussion but what people fail to realise is leinster provide the irfu with most of their money leinster generate way more money for the irfu than any of the other provinces. Munsters buying history is far more higher profile than leinsters: Saili, Fekitoa, Snyman, Deysel, De Allende, Howlett, Christian Cullen etc etc. Leinster are being rewarded for producing and developing the most amount of talent. The other provinces wouldnt even be able to compete without leinster... Nearly the entire connacht squad is leinster men, and a bunch of munster and ulsters best players are leinster men : Timoney, Cooney, Carberry, Tadhg beirne etc etc
If I understand correctly the IRFU pays for part of the Irish national player salaries, so that money stays off Leinster’s books - perhaps someone else in the comments section knows details on this?
Its great for Leinster but the other 3 provinces are not happy. Personally I love it but I totally understand the grumbles. Leinster have the greatest numbers and schools to pull from compared to the other 3. We have the same problem in Gaelic Football with Dublin being the Leinster in that sport.
Barrett is perfect cover for Leinster while the rest of the guys are out playing in the 6N
Bring Kwagga Smith to the Stomers.
Been saying this for a long time. Thats the dream signing
Hes going ito Leinster
