- Welcome to Steam Sequence, a series where I attempt to play and review as many Steam games in alphabetical order as possible to sort the Trash from the Treasure.
This means that I'm playing through all the terrible games so that you don't have to. Please enjoy my suffering.
This episode features:
KLAUS
Store Page: store.steampowered.com/app/72...
In case you're wondering, Steam organizes games starting with punctuation first, then numbers, and then the actual alphabet. It may be some time before I reach the letter "A" on my journey!

Hi! I'm Victor Velasco. Game Director, Writer, 2D artist and Composer of Klaus. I'm happy that such a personal game we did with so much love still resonates with people. You made my day!
Thank you for creating something special! The soundtrack was excellent as well, some fantastic tracks in this hidden gem.
I hope you're doing well with whatever you're working on now!
oh no klarry enlargened himself
He thinks the spikes are a weird, dangerous feature for a basement but the automated buzzsaw launchers don't merit a comment?
You're a strange guy, Kaus. :)
I suppose you eventually get used to the weirdness?
@@Graeldon I feel like "getting used to automated buzzsaw launchers and deadly spikes on the jobsite" are things you call OSHA about, not stuff you should be acclimatizing yourself to. :)
It's like COVID. People were initially shocked at a death every day in their country from this new disease but when it reached multiple deaths a minute they were annoyed at restrictions, and when it goes back down to "only" a death every 15 minutes they forget it exists.
the JUMP between the amount of supporters listed in last week's vid to today's is huge, congrats man
This definitely seems like a game people should actually play!
100% I've given away 5 copies on my Discord server!
"grab a controller"
Instructions unclear: grabbing a Wii remote, a wacom tablet, a steering wheel, and flight sim joystick.
Worth a try, I guess?
Finish the game with one of those and I'll buy you a game on Steam.
K1 is an absolute gem! I was worried after the livestream that he wouldn't return, but I'm thoroughly relieved to find he's the rating.
I couldn't leave him out!
Interesting to note: after watching the first few minutes of the video, I tried looking the game up on both steam and google. After that didn't work, I looked up "klaus game" and then "klaus game steam". Nothing.
The title may have been a reason this game is so underground. It has whatever the opposite of SEO is. Search engine unoptimization?
Yeah the naming is unfortunate and makes the game difficult to find. When trying to do research for the video I found some success by using "-KLAUS-" when searching.
Gem found! You're making a service to the gaming community, you know?
I know this is going to be a hidden gem
Thank you for reviewing our game, happy to see people enjoying it.
Is your entire team living in Venezuela? Hope things are getting better for you guys. I'll check out your game later this week.c
I'm so sorry, I forgot to reply!
Thank you for creating a wonderful and memorable game! I hope that you and the team continue to create great content, and hopefully your efforts will get the recognition they deserve!
@@TheHamburgler123 no some of our team was from venezuela but we were actually from all over the world and were based in Los Angeles at the time of development .
I'm telling you right now, if you keep up this quality you will continue to shatter your own UA-cam records and you'll be huge in no time. Seriously, you have a fantastic channel going
Thanks for the kind words!
I'm honestly just glad to see people enjoying the content =)
I know it's going to be a lot of trash but honestly, your finding hidden gems at a good rate.
Much faster than expected! Around a 20% success rate, and I was anticipating closer to 5% haha
@@Graeldon I am _flabberghasted_ that the percentage has been that high.
I haven't watched the video yet but MAN I binged like all of your videos 4 days ago and I fucking LOVE your style of content. It's so simple yet so effective and I absolutely love the approach you give to games. I haven't finished this video yet but I know damn well I will enjoy this one as well.
EDIT: Yeah I loved this video and this game!
YAAAY THE KLAUS REVIEW again i'm so happy to see other ppl enjoying it, reviewing it, and recommending it. while i know that it has its rough spots (the janky physics and final boss fight, though i'd also count the spoiler middle boss fight as a bit jank occasionally too) it's a game with a huge amount of love put into it that's unfortunately looked over. the game is super important to me for reasons so hopefully this inspires people to buy it, play it, and give it some more positive reviews :)
I just want to let you know that I deeply appreciate and respect you approach of test every steam game to find the hidden gem. Hopefully this may spark a movement and multiple players could participate and spread the work between them to make that objective actually feasible. In any case I'm subscribing to your channel!
We're living in a time where a lot of people are turning away from AAA games and looking for the interesting ones from indie devs. It'll be nice to find a few more
This was the first premier I'd ever seen! All in all this game actually looked pretty darn good! Was never really good at platformers, but 2D platformers always have this charm to them. Love when the player and the "character" are considered separate entities too. Really opens up for some really interesting moral and narrative choices. Great video my guy!❤
Thanks Snow! I think La Cosa did a great job with the narrative side of the game. I've purposefully left out some of the heavier hitting moments as I didn't want to spoil too much
Welp this is the first game you've reviewed I will be getting for myself. This game perfectly encapsulates whats great about indie games. Doing things people have never quite seen before.
This game sounds quite fun, can't wait to give it a try
I hope you enjoy it! The platforming isn't perfect but it's worth pushing past it.
I'm really happy to see you grow, bro. Your content is amazing.
This game is where a 4th wall break becomes a 5th wall break where the protag is not only aware they're in some form of media but is directly trying to interact with your world like, for example, Monika from Doki Doki Literature Club.
Very true!
Hi, just wanted to say I randomly got your channel recommended a few days ago and I've been hooked on these videos. Thank you for the great content!!
Welcome to the channel! I'm glad you're enjoying the content 😄
Silly how you typing "-KLAUS-" in the description resulted in it getting a line through it, because of the dashes on both sides. However, maybe if you put a simple period after the second dash, it would show up as intended, like this:
-KLAUS-.
Because the strikethrough effect doesn't seem to occur if there's a non-space character immediately after the second dash. Yeah, UA-cam can be weird like that.
Anyway, -KLAUS-, seems to be a really well-made hidden gem. It's just a shame that the final boss can apparently be softlocked. I wonder if the devs would be willing to update the game to fix that along with a few other little issues?
The naming convention has definitely caused the game to be difficult to find, unless you search for "-KLAUS-" you'll likely struggle.
The dev team appear to have gone their separate ways as the game wasn't quite successful enough sadly.
@@Graeldon
This makes me wonder how much more popular the game could've been if it was just named "KLAUS" without the hyphens.
This reminds me of a somewhat similar idea I had for a game that was a retro-style twin stick shooter where the character was experiencing blackouts and didn't have any recollection of what happened during the levels.
I think that this game did a lot more with the idea than I had really thought about doing and I think that the lighter tone definitely works as a springboard for the characters' relationship with the player to develop in interesting ways.
I hope this game goes well and that the developer is encouraged to continue working on projects because it seems like they have a lot of interesting ideas and the talent to translate them into a unique experience.
This is the first game in this Series that I just had to buy right after watching the Video. This is what I´m here for.
Oh this looks too good to spoil for myself. Yet again, a wonderful spotlight, with excellent details and explanations!
You really are making a difference :)
I'll let the video play nearly muted for the analytics and come back later to rewatch it
Just wanted to say that I have been loving this whole series, and you absolutely deserve for this channel to explode in popularity.
Not only is the idea behind this more than simply a gimmick, but it feels like the video game equivalent of diving through terrible b-movies looking for the few that manage to be good despite their obscurity. As others have mentioned, you are doing a great service in terms of exposure.
Additionally, I think your style of reviewing is extremely excellent. You are at a very good level of not being a tea-spoon shallow hot-take, but also not turning 20 minutes of materiel into an hour long ramble. Whether they wind up short or long, your videos feel like they are the length that they need to be to cover what you have to say. Your style of constructive criticism that is nevertheless extremely uncompromising and harsh is one I absolutely adore.
Assuming I ever manage to get past my creative blocks and get a game out, I intend to place it right in your path. Even if its not one of the gems, the feedback from tearing it apart (and mentioning what still worked) will be extremely helpful. Additionally, you are very good at bringing humor and interesting discussion out of even the most shovelware of titles.
You are one of the few youtube channels I subscribe to, please keep doing what you are doing.
Probably the Only video i will Stop Watching to play the Game Myself end then Revisite want to play Klaus by myself.
Same here. This game looks class.
What an excellent channel to find! Just went through the entire Steam Sequence so far and I really appreciate your approach. I'm on my own "play every game" journey and thought more people must be attempting the same, and your format is the kind I was hoping to find: properly featuring each game rather than brushing over the less "interesting" ones and approaching them on their level first. Most important is certainly the commitment and follow through on the premise though, and looks like that's in order too! I look forward to watching more videos as they come.
Best of luck on your own adventure, it's quite the grind!
I searched before starting this series and couldn't find anyone else doing a challenge like this. I think there was one person doing it for PS1 games, or people doing it for their personal game libraries, but nothing on this scale
This game looks right up my alley! Gonna wishlist it on Switch, thanks so much for the great review
i stumbled across ur channel with the member the alamo review and im very intrigued by this series
ik its gonna be a while off but i am excited for you to play the games starting with c bc one of my absolute favorite games of all time is chicory a colorful tale
this kind of reminds me of an interesting flash game ive played... its called PRIOR its plot feels sorta similar
Just looked it up and I agree, the tone feels similar but I'd say that PRIOR is much darker. -KLAUS- does have some moments of brevity thanks to the character dialogue
this game is like the game never give up
this game sounds amazing! great video
Simple game mechanics with good level design really goes a long way. Also how are you so well articulated when you speak. 😭 Great Video
Thanks! I don't know either!
I'll put it down to several years of working as a retail trainer running workshops haha
The fact you'll be playing Library of Ruina before Lobotomy Corporation if you somehow ever reach either of those games is simultaneously how i would reccomend it and also a bad idea for the narrative since Library of Ruina is a sequel to Lobotomy Corporation.
What's Klaus? I only know Klarry
My cat is named -Klaus- (without the dashes). Good video!
I just learned that putting a dash on both sides of a word strikes out the word in comments.
Thanks for the kind words, and please give Klaus a pet for me =)
@@Graeldon Of course! He's my profile picture so if you want to see him briefly I have a few shorts of him being cute. I'm looking forward to more good videos like these given your humble response to the popularity of your fascist game review. Slow and steady mate!
this is good. good man
Epicest steam reviews
Thanks for the video :)
Yoooo, another good one!
seems awesome
This one actually looks pretty good. I'll pick up a copy
You should join the discord server - I often do giveaways for the good games that I find!
Will you Snail? is another 2D platformer with a narrative that I think counts as including the player as part of the plot, I think
and whewww im done with the binge watch. all of the episodes done
Just in time for the new one in 1 hour!
Interesting review!🙂
Is there a possibility of you reviewing “No Time”, an indie time-travel game?
It'll take a long time to reach that game in the main series, but I've started taking community requests for the livestreams, so you might be able to get the game featured there!
As someone who went through the entire steam catalogue on the discovery queue last year I can understand the trial you've set yourself up for, and I know you said you're interested in just going genuinely through every title from beginning to end, but would you consider certain measures in the future to cull things above a certain level of pointlessness? In particular things like dozens of identical match 3 games, etc. You might save yourself 20-30 thousand games just through that. Maybe crowdsourcing some elimination criteria like that? At the same time I kind of understand the intrigue of looking at absolutely everything.
You've used the discovery queue for every single game? That's both impressive and intimidating!
I have no plans to trim out games at the moment, but some games will get more attention than others for sure
Amazing looking game!
It's visually gorgeous, and pretty fun to play!
@@Graeldon I skipped the spoiler segment, so I'll come back after I'm done the game.
K1 must be protected at all costs :D
This game looks really cool I’m actually thinking about playing it
This game looks pretty good, the art style reminds me of Geometry Dash (e. g. the circle animation).
Splarry's Splunging, splongling, splangling Sploons.
Good Ole K1
This is the first time I've ever seen my username in the end credits of a video. It's honestly pretty surreal.
And hopefully slightly heartwarming! Thanks for being a part of the community!
@Graeldon Thank you for making it!
this game is great
I've never played it but it's on sale all the time on the PSN store
Lol not me buying the game during the video.
In fact I think I'm going to stop watching here and beat the game and come back.
I have returned having beaten the game.
Welcome back, I hope you enjoyed it!
@@Graeldon I did! Recommended it to several people~
Klarry
for the algorithm
I missed it 😞
Is it like Butterfly Affection?
I hadn't heard of Butterfly Affection, but after looking it up I'd have to say they aren't similar. Different game genres and stories to tell. Butterfly Affections looks interesting though!
@@Graeldon It has to do with spoilers.
have you yet decided to run all these games in VM?
VM?
@@Graeldon Virtual Machine I guess?
@@Graeldon Virtual machine, likely. Could be useful in case you stumble into actual malware out there. Not sure if such could make its way to steam though, but who knows. better safe than sorry.
@@zedmanul7472Things that are explicitly malware that damage your PC should never make it to Steam before being taken down, but there are definitely games that are cryptominers that have snuck through.
What’s the price?
The hidden gems counter is gone?
No? It's at 0:28
@@Graeldon oh, I meant in the description
Will you be reviewing the MANY hentai games?
18+ games are not featured on my channel
There needs to be a way to convey context online so a joke is seen as a joke, don’t want to appear condescending. I love your content, but in this moment I was just trying to say a joke.
@rguess ah. Unfortunately, that's a serious question I've had a few times, so the thought of it being a joke didn't even register.
Sorry!
