Thank you for sharing ideas, another question, if I purchase a high end SD card will drone footage automatically look smooth and clear?

This is a very underrated video... Thanks for this!

There is some speculation that the "cache when recording" setting in ADVANCED camera settings is gumming up the works as it pertains to jitter, jutter, choppiness....whatever name you want to give it when filming video and in particular the panning shots. The discussion is whether or not the cache process is filling up the buffer on the internal real-time processing as the footage is being acquired. For those who have played with all of the parameters you discussed in this video and still see the chop on the final output.....how much thought and time have you put in to evaluating the affect of caching (a low res version of the high res piece being shot) when recording? Who needs a bunch of cached duplicate low res files anyway?

That’s great advice! I’ve been struggling with this for some time but I’ll try out a few of your tips. 👌🏽

We need a follow up with real examples of the shutter speed change. I also don’t know how to do that in the app.

But this does occur also when moving backwards or forwards. If you look at a video looks like it stops for 2-3 ms or moves backwards 2 frames then continues. Is this behaviour also due to shutter speed?

I got the mavic air 2 drone. Then I bought a 16gb SD card it was cheep. I didn't notice that it was a 4 instead of a 10. My phantom 3 standard came with a 8gb SD 10. So I will try that. I'm almost sure that's the problem lol. I didn't even know about the speed of the card.

Surely a FASTER shutter speed would be better? As an ex pro photographer, if I want to pan and shoot a fast moving object, I have the shutter speed as fast as I can, with the lowest ISO possible, to STOP motion blurr of the subject. You are suggesting using a slower shutter speed to stop it! Makes no sense to me. PC spec/video player is irrelevant if it looks choppy on the tab/phone WHILE you are recording, or just flying, as mine does on an A2S. SD card is not the issue with my issue ( I use a Samsung 90Mb/sec write speed card which shows the issue), as it also does it using the internal storage. Watching your vid with MA2 where you're showing the choppy issue - I WISH mine looked that good! My A2S has gone back to DJI today, who've seen my footage and acknowledged that it's not right. It's not shutter speed/FPS conflict, even panning very slowly shows it. Even using 1080p/30fps and 1/60th shutter shows the problem. h264/h265 makes zero difference.
Reading your article again, you talk about exporting the video with the original frame rate. 'Exporting'? What does that mean, and how would we change that? I just either connect the drone to the PC and copy the files over, or remove the SD card and put it into the PC and copy the files over. There's no 'exporting' and no opportunity to alter frame rates. Please explain.

Is there any way to check your footage before installing on UA-cam?

David - yes, look at it on your phone/Tab, direct from the drone, before you transfer to your PC. Is it choppy on the screen while flying? Mine is on my A2S, which is going back to DJI today!

I think one thing missed in your video is radio-frequency (RF) interference. Most of the time when I'm having issues with filming, it's that I'm at a location where there's "something" (wi-fi, radio towers) nearby causing it to almost fail - this has happened more than once. I recently filmed at a wedding with my drone (reception & b-roll) and it randomly stuttered throughout the entire shoot. Very inconsistent and not smooth filming at all. I had issues launching the drone and the connectivity between my Air, the controller and my phone was complicated. Watching the reels from different computers and in PP, letting Premier select the correct sequence settings based on the settings on the file, showed me it wasn't PP, or my Mac Studio but indeed the footage itself. A test this morning of all of my microSD cards turned up zero problems. That being the case, with the only evidence of connectivity issues at the site, I can only assume it's some other interference. I appreciate your video.

Nope. RF doesn't create this choppy problem.

I agree with @hubcityautofocus, on top of that, unless you're recording from a DVR feed in a pair of goggles, like I do occasionally on my smaller freestyle quads, just for posting to friends on social media, then the DJI Air unit, a GoPro or any halfway decent photo drone would be using onboard recording, so there would be no RF signal present between the camera sensor and the sd card onboard the craft.

I had this issue filming in a presentation room in a museum in NY. There was a lot of radio frequencies coming from the booth - 6 wireless mic's, 3 remote museum cameras, 3 wifi routers in the booth, etc. it was a mess of frequenceies. Plus there's a phone in every pocket of the 300 people packed in the room. We had 3 cameras and a 360 camera to mimic a fly over the crowd. The 360 camera had start up issues, connecting issues to the phone and recording issues such as dropped frames. We had the screen full of moving lines at one point. The longer we tried the worst it got. What footage we got was unusable. I believe the issue was that cameras like the 360 are always looking for a device to connect to and the interference bleeds into the system causing mayhem. This searching for a signal can not be turned off in our 360 camera. Our other 3 SLR styles cameras recording to ninja's were fine. I don't think there is a solution for this and you can't ask the facilities managers to shut down systems and you can't change the systems built into the 360. My lesson to myself is... just know the limitations of your gear and what equipment is vulnerable in a room full of frequencies, have a backup plan because it's only going to get worse.

No there isn't anything more frustrating after a 100 degree plus Fahrenheit day going up to the "dam" for some beautiful shots, but handling a dog that is needy and a wife that is overheating then coming home to see all the recommendations of experts were followed as far as setup and it still jumps on the orbits and turns. :)
