thats the most basic thing in this game. same with his sendai. if the enemy ship would at the end burn and be damaged like this it would survive and in the next fight it would have like minor damage and minor flooding. just like the enemy destroyer i torped today. after 5 hits he survived and had like no damage at all when the next group of avengers arrived.
“Not really concerned about her one single gun here.” -last words of the Chikuma’s real life officer staring at USS Johnston in 1944 about 2.5 seconds before they put the first of many a 5” rounds through her bridge and upper works. Seems that some things never change, lol.
Small tips for firefighting in case you don't already know them. 1: if fires are scattered over the ship, target the ones that have the most adjacent squares. I once had a ship that spent almost the entire battle with its bow compartments burning because they could only spread to one other compartment. 2: if fires are mostly concentrated to one area, first deal with any outliers and then push from the center outwards. Again, the idea is to limit the directions it can spread. 3: if fires are both above and below deck, keep focus on one or the other and try to stick to it(unless at risk of violating rule 5). 4: fires do gradually more damage % to a compartment the longer they burn. A fresh fire may only do 2 to 4 structural damage before being put out, while one that gets ignored starts ticking up faster and faster to as much as 20 damage per minute. I don't know what the upper limit is, but if avoiding structural damage is your goal, focus on the oldest fires first. 5: seems obvious, but if losing compartments will cause you to overflood, focus on extinguishing the most damaged compartments first. If you have to lose compartments, try to make sure the loss is spread out so it at least acts as counterflooding(or kept above deck where it won't flood at all). Really there's no "best way" to fight fires, but there have been many times I've taken damage I didn't have to because of nonoptimal management or because of leaving it to the AI to auto assign damage control. You can almost always do better than the auto assign if you pay attention as I'm sure you know.
The method of firefighting I've developed for myself was if the fire was really bad, focus on the compartments and let most of the top fires keep burning because I can still send a ship home to repair even if its upper works is completely burnt down.
@@adamtruong1759 interesting. Do you have any way of saying whether this method better prevents uncontrolled spreading? My experience is if you don't isolate the fire in some way you end up chasing it as it jumps between above and below decks.
@@xcritic9671 I have a way of saying that it's the best solution to keeping a ship a float as long as possible as it maintains the ship's water tight integrity. I don't chase fires between decks often, I stay below deck (mostly, because I still need some DC efficiency from the upperworks). Also, having a few destroyed subsystems/compartments helps as it allows you to ignore the fires in their, and focus on more damaging fires. And so far it's worked for me if I ever have a severely damaged ship (which is rare because I never let a ship get too damaged at a time).
@@xcritic9671 The fire could spread into the same compartment, but it doesn't happen often. What does happens more often is that a fire will spread into a neighboring compartment forcing you to chase it across the ship one at a time.
Wolfpack, when you next have enough command points, you might want to consider parking a submarine off of Surabaya. A sub can't stop a whole convoy, but if it focuses only on sinking incoming fuel tankers, you might be able to prevent any more upgrades to that airfield.

You really need to manually fire those torpedo spreads. The AI will attempt to lead the target, but the enemy ships NEVER go straight. You need to fire your spreads into the center of the enemy formation.
I love that you dont abuse the manual fire mechanic. Manual fire just takes all tension out of battles because its close to cheating. Thanks for that! Loving this campaign
For torpedo attacks, I’ve found that the closer you are, the wider of a spread you a should launch. Whereas if you’re farther away, a narrower spread angle is better. It’s just good math! :)
This game has a lot of potential to be even better if a few more game mechanics as Wolfpack said. Being able to put out fires with a destroyer. Capturing enemy merchant ships to use for yourself would be awesome.
Would also be nice if you disabled a ship you could capture it or if a ship js being under repair in a port that is captured by you that you take it kind of like what happened tonthat one Clemson class destroyer.
Wow. The only time I've ever seen ship-based torpedoes hit anything...and they are duds. Damn your luck. Did you forget your Content Creator Luck Subscription payment this month?
Meanwhile on my end: Also horrible luck hitting anything with torpedoes, yet managed to nail Yamato with some ship-based torps at night with a wide spread at very long range (and collaterally hit another enemy cruiser), whilst also seeing enemy ships sometimes strike their own allies in formation thus assisting in crippling if not killing a ship. This game is silly sometimes.
@@jessegd6306 Torpedoes in Killerfish Games titles tend to be a bit wonky. In the old Atlantic Fleet mobile game (which shares a lot of assets with War On the Sea like fire graphics and sound effects), they were basically unusable by the player because the AI could turn CAs within the diameter of a nickle, but might as well have been acoustic homing when the AI was using them.
