Arkanoid - Revenge of Doh (a.k.a. Arkanoid 2) is an arcade game released by Taito Corporation in 1987 as a sequel to Arkanoid
The mysterious enemy known as DOH has returned to seek vengeance on the Vaus space vessel. The player must once again take control of the Vaus (paddle) and overcome many challenges in order to destroy DOH once and for all. Revenge of Doh sees the player battle through 34 rounds, taken from a grand total of 64.

Had this on the spectrum. Loved it. Amstrad looked very impressive also.
Apple II : Trying to sound like a TG16
Dos : Regal Horns
Sharp : Ear Blasting FM Noises
I was really disappointed that the C64 version didn't include the option to use paddle controllers. That's the one thing that made me like the C64 version of Arkanoid over the Amiga version.
Very cool to see the differences between the versions. Thanks for all of these.
The sound quality of the MSX version is very impressive.
The graphics too are very impressive for an 8-bit computer

I mean, spot on like the arcade would’ve done it had it stayed with the 8-bit soundchip.
The title track on the C64 version is an epic SID tune!
Nice video again!
BTW, the MSX2 version supports the paddle, just like the NES. It's autodetected by the game, and emulators use the mouse to emulate it.
Arkanoid
Arkanoid:Revenge Of Doh=Arkanoid 2
Arkanoid:Doh It Again!=Arkanoid 3
Arkanoid Returns\Arkanoid 2000=Arkanoid 4
I love this game. And thanks for showing some interesting versions (and for me unknown versions yet). I'll try the Amstrad version and the Sharp version.
It was nice the Apple IIGS got a version at all.
+MrVenom1974 Die Spectrum-Version ist auch nicht schlecht oder? ;)
Die probiere auch mal aus.
The port to the PC is quite good with one exception: bizarrely they forgot it was a PC port. When you lose your lives, it's game over. No credits, no nothing. This takes the game from hard to damn near impossible. I want to know how they didn't notice that. :-)
THis is the way Taito ported their arcade games ...
MS-DOS ADLIB soundcard with Yamaha Chip is the winner
The Commodore 64 version I have fond memories of and just seeing that version brings back a lot of memories especially staying up very late at night to see how far I can go. Interesting that both the MSX2 and NES versions begin with that boss fight and none of the other versions don't do that. The Sharp X68000 version is the closest one to being arcade perfect. Great video and keep them coming.
I've not had any experience with the Sharp, so I'm surprised to see that it beats the Amiga version. I'm off to see more Sharp games. :^P
This was my favorite game on the Apple IIgs. Columns was 2nd.
Loved the cpc port.
Just a note about the PC version. It looks like you have SAI or some pixel filling option on. It'd turn it off to make it accurate.
Sounds like the Amiga version was developed for PAL, and then the NTSC conversion corrected the gameplay speed but not the sound effects or music.
Had the same thought but also for the Atari ST version. Having it personally (the PAL version), it does sound slower than that. It's a shame cause I loved those small jingles :p
The Amstrad port is very impressive =)
+CrazySandtrooper the spectrum one too!
+MarioKart7z The Spectrum version might play a good game, but it's too hard seeing what's going on. Too bad the machine can't handle colours, it would be much better machine if it could.
dartsma464 the machine CAN handle colors, it's just that there are no sprites so you just HAVE to find a way to get all the colors right. There is no low-res mode so there's really no easy way to get color...
One example of doing it right is the TMNT port. Look it up, GHS has a vid of it
I meant that the Spectrum has problem with colours due to colourclash and for me that means that it can't handle colour
All about the attributes handling, colours aren't the issue but the way they are displayed.
Awesome man!!!
Awesome game, but damn, who's the asshole who chose to NOT dedicate the ZX's limited palette to the paddle and ball? D:
Well, that's very hard to do with how the ZX Spectrum lays out its colors.
Normally, the colors on certain systems are assigned per-pixel, meaning that despite the limited colors (normally 3 colors+transparency) a game object can use, those colors can be anywhere on a sprite or tile.
ZX Spectrum computers went a little cheaper. Instead of assigning colors per-pixel, the background colors are assigned per-8x8-pixel-block, which are static and cannot scroll, only change colors. Essentially, they took the tilemap idea you find in video games and applied it to the background colors.
I'll finish up the details later on. Hope you guys enjoy ! :D
+Gaming History Source Make a comparison of all version (except the 3DO one) of ClockWerx please.
PC
Mac
Super Famicom
Sega Saturn
PlayStation
iOS (Spin Doctor)
A SEQUEL?
What's wrong with the 3DO version?
SharkByte LLC This version was canceled and the prototype didn't appear for download. (probably due of the fact the system was discontinued in the same year that this version was planned to be release)
"Revenge of DOH"? What is this, The Simpsons?
agreed
You do end up shouting "D'OH!" a lot whilst playing it.
@@CountScarlioni H O L Y S H I T !
This from my infancy 😀😁😎👍
There's some kind of weird smoothing turned on in the DOSBox emulator you're using. Otherwise, good video.
the engineer "prometheus" thumbnail..🗿
Looks uncannily similar to the red DOH from Arkanoid: Eternal Battle game over screen.
Could he be the Space Jockey all along?
I played the Apple IIGS version as a kid, and I broke it out again on an emulator just the other day. Good times. Unfortunately my original disk with all my custom levels was corrupted, and there was copy protection that required the original disk to verify even if you made a backup. It's unfortunate that emulators can't seem to capture the sound of this game right. It has kind of a warbling effect that's a bit off putting. It's neat though that they used most of the same audio samples from the arcade version.
Thank you!
i like the c64, nes, x68000 and applr 2gs versions
Let's compare Cannon Fodder
Noted.
I think mechanical differences are important too. I cant be sure but I think the arcade version is the only one with the gold random powerup.
That Apple GS version gotta be on transwarp mode. Way faster than the others
Arkanoid II wasn't on the NES, only the Famicom.
I had no idea there were this many ports.

The Msx and Nintendo versions of this game are both somewhat similar.
The Sharp X68000 version is amazing. And with stereo sound.
The NES version could be a lot better.
Well the The Sharp X68000 computer was actually used to develop a LOT of original arcade games itself
@@scottbreon9448 Yep, and Arkanoid II is no exception.
I played an actual arcade of arkanoid other than that I'd say the NES version is really good.
DOS is usually known for horrible music , but Arkanoid on DOS sounds really good, like if Sega Genesis got a port of the game.
+TurboPikachuX it seems to be sound blaster or adlib music, not the horrible pc speaker
Wasn't there an SNES port of this too? It was one of the last games released for the SNES.
Diffrent game. Called Doh it again.
SNES version? It was good. I don't see it listed.
Different game. :\ If I would have added it I would have caught a backlash & if I didn't I still catch it. lol Damned if you do & damned if you don't.
That was Doh It Again, after this game.
revenge of Do'h
Revenge of _annoyed grunt_
Sharp and msx2 had best sound and graphics
the snes version?
Different game.
Okay, the ZX Spectrum version sucks..., as always!
But what was their intention to color the players ship just like the background graphics?
Predator style?!?
Brain Scan the spectrums colour limitations meant you couldn't have overlapping colours. The spectrum port is not bad, the motion is fluid, and its graphics were higher res than the c64.
Not as Always
The Spectrum had one of the best ports of Bomb Jack in terms of GAMEPLAY
and arcade perfect GAMEPLAY is always more important than sound and graphics
We are in the jungle, not Easter Island. 😁
arkanoid 1 on nes was one of my fav games on the system but the sequel suck so bad , visuals not impressive , sounds not interresting , hate it , also the sounds of the apple virsion in this video reminds me of the sounds of crying babies in 1993 for some odd reason ........ guess it's that time of the month
under 301 club
Stupid game. There are better BreakOut clones than this one with the silly name that everyone remembers. End of.
I think I was in a mood when I wrote this. The series isn't terrible, of course not. I was just not impressed with later conversions of the game but never gave it much respect considering its age.
